As an ex-pro snowboarder who accessed most of our terrain with snowmobiles, the main goal was always backcountry safety. I saw far too many accidents, and most within the snowmobile community. If you are on a sled, in uncontrolled terrain, and you haven't taken any one of the multiple courses available, you are what we consider a "kook." Dangerous not only for yourself, but for others around you as well. I would hope that you have gone through all of the necessary courses, and know and understand how to use a beacon. Your response to the avy-pack makes me think you really don't know what you are doing back there, as they have a much higher successfull recovery rate than transceivers. But nothing helps like the knowledge of reading the terrain - knowing which "aspects" of the mountain are safe and unsafe on any given day - and most importantly, keeping a good read on the weather conditions. That slope looked quite windloaded to me, and the crown of that avy was over 2' deep. Don't rely on "guardian angels" in the future, be prepared and know how to avoid it in the first place.

How do you think a big steep open slope with a dense snow slab on top is OK to ride up on a big heavy loud chunk of metal? Hell, I'd be sketched out going up that on snowshoes, people don't seem to get that avalanches are very predictable in that they are absolutely inevitable, it's just a question of whether you're the thing that sets them off.

    Hallo

My friend had read in a magazine few days before the trip in case of an avalanche you need to make swimming movements with your arms.. as if you want to swim up. He did. This might have saved him. Also at the moment if happened he thought "Not now!!!" as he had certain other people on his mind that needed him in life.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four-footed animals, and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them up to vile impurity in the lusts of their hearts, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

I never been in that situation on a snowmobile but my instinct would be to point straight up the hill and floor it.

Yep, get above it if you can, looks like it leaned him over, and he could not get under his lean because it was breaking away. So much power on that sled, pushed the crown down and broke the snow load hold.

Would small oxygen bottle help in those situations ? Just wondering if they invented a way to survive an avalanche. Sorry for your loss.

The parents having their kids die in their arms due to starvation are wondering why people are out spending money like this. Clearly the personal fun is more valuable to them than human life.

Never been mountain riding, Never plan too, The elements don't care about your well being, when the side of a mountain gets knocked loose, your going for a ride against your will, you and the sled, and if your one of the lucky ones you won't get buried alive, That's why it is not a good idea to test fate.

Take 1000 $ from 15 to 20 you spent on your machine and get some safety gear and take an avalanche awareness class.
Might not be so lucky next time.
