They mistaked Shadow for Sonic because he was the only hedgehog there and this was the first time where a lot of people saw Sonic transforming into Super Sonic where his quills rised up and he changed his colour. If you look at Shadow, his quills are also rised up and he is black in colour. Maybe the people thought that Shadow was just a transformation of Sonic. Even one of Sonic's transformations, Dark Sonic totally resemble Shadow.
tikal's story bits were about the creation of chaos. since they didn't go over it.... her tribe is at war, they want the chaos emerals, as the master nutralizes them, to wage war on other tribes. gaurding the emeralds, were chao, they killed the chao, and set the place ablaze. chaos was born from the devestation, and summoned by tikal to stop her father, as the chao who were worshiping, were killed, and chaos had no one to keep him thier.... slaughtering the tribe untill peace was restored. esentually the story....

The way Amy tamed Chaos actually does seem like the more logical reaction to hearing its backstory, but I guess people would be disappointed if the main character didn't beat things up in the climax of a shonen anime story.

I was totally immersed and impressed at how you reimagined the whole story, filling in gaps for SA2 and also how actually the personal perspectives of each character (and not their gameplay) reflected a different version of the same tale. The inclusion of the chao mechanic and Chaos being an actual chao was also a nice touch. I can't help but say that this is probably one of your greatest work Roger; thanks for sharing this adventure with us!
At the echidna battle, I thought that I should feel bad about all the times I've thrown Chao into walls, or entered babies into Expert level Chao Karate, or thrown them into water before they knew how to swim, or... well, you get the idea. But then the guy at the end made me laugh way too much, and I don't feel as bad as I should about Chao abuse.
This video was my first experience with this game's story as a kid. Didn't get half the jokes, it made no god damn sense, but it I still laughed my ass off. And watching back now after having actually played the game, it's so much better (especially the Ken Penders joke, that was genius). I've always loved these videos, and it's actually kinda funny that I get more nostalgia from watching this than playing the actual game. Great job, and I can't wait to see what's in store for the future.
Well, Chaos in sonic forces is also irelevant and was only added in to catch peoples interest. Plus (spoiler) : It s not even the real Chaos in forces. (and the game was mostly boring and had bad controlls and design)

Peppersnoop Roger is a great storyteller but he already straight up admitted he is not good at animation. It doesn't take a professional animator to see the bad quality of it.
Chicken Fdisoruhg I'm fairly sure he meant that his animations compared to professional animation, his pale in comparison. Which is true, but you gotta remember -- most professional animations you see (at least the ones that last over 20 minutes, like this one), have teams of at least 40 people. This is damn impressive for one guy doing this in his free time, and I have yet to see better animation that is this long on TH-cam.
Peppersnoop Saying impressive is going a bit overboard but I guess I have to cut him some slack since he's the only animator. Cyanide and Happiness is a great animated series on TH-cam.
Totally worth the wait, mate and a great way to end the year on. I do like how everyone tells their story from a different viewpoint. And I think this is the first time the G.U.N Commander appears in an animation solely made by you. The Chao massacre reminded me of those epic battles from your old animations. I nearly expected Echidna paratroopers to jump out of a plane XD. And Ken Penders deserves that. I also like Sonic screaming, Amy's rage face and that epic intro of Eggman on the Egg Carrier II. Awesome job mate, and heres to more animations and dissections in the new year.
+A.Blob.Of.Clay Well, the reason why most people really hate him is for causing legal problems where the Sonic comics can't use a lot of characters anymore. As for his skills as a writer, how should I describe him... He's very emotional, so can create very intense drama and emotional situations. But he doesn't think them trough, or goes very deep, it's super obvious and shallow. So for teenagers, his writing works perfect but adults get really irritated by him. He's kinda like the guy constantly ranting that the goverment is evil and ruining the world, but hen ever seems to have evidence, facts, names, solutions, any context. He has nothing but raw emotion and anger. That's kinda how his writing comes across to me, writing about how technology is evil or how abusive relationships are evil, but he has nothing to really say about it other that it's really really evil and that we should hate it. That, and then there's the fact a lot of people are uncomfortable with the topics he choses, like the just mentioned Abusive relationships. He tends to make the stories a little soap opera-ish at times, again splitting his audience up to those who love it and those who despise it.
***** Oh, I forgot, there's also the fact he has little respect for the source material and constantly makes his own characters and ideas overide the main material. Biggest example of that is him Killing of Dr. Robotnik casually in one issue because he considered him boring. Sally suffered the same fate. And don't expect any big consequences or story beats tied to their deaths, it happens super casually. "i'm tired of them, boom, dead. Here's my awesome character to replace them instead." Which, in American comic tradition, forced the other writers to do all kinds of convuluted alternative dimension/ clone/ time travel goofy stuff to fix them up again.
+Roger van der Weide I agree with you for the most part Roger, but I feel there's a few things you overlooked/didn't know in regards to 'Endgame': 1. Endgame was originally meant to be the end of the comic, as the show it was based on got cancelled and no major games were coming out at the time. However, once it was decided that the comic would continue after it already 'ended,' the writers had to scramble to put something together for what happened next after Robotnik died. It didn't go too well. 2. Sally's 'death' was pretty centeral to the ark, and even Sonic is affected to the point that he no longer jokes anymore. It just got undermined by the last minute decision to keep her alive, which happened because... 3. SoA had marketing plans for the character, so they mandated that the character be resurrected. Again, last minute rewrites were necessary. So, in conclusion, sat what you will about how Penders treats the source material, but Endgame was largely out of his control.
This is pretty much the kind of tone the Sonic games actually need. Genuinely more engaging than any of the Pontaff games. Great job as always Roger. Kind of makes me think the SA1 story had genuine potential.
+Eu lia Tu lias To make a very long and complicated story short, and this is from someone who doesn't read the comics either so I don't know all the details but, Ken Penders was one of the writers for the Sonic Archie Comics. During his run he did a huge extended backstory for the Echidna tribe that involved a whole lot of Echidna characters. When Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood was made, it also expanded the backstory for the Echidnas and made a bunch of Echidna characters. So Ken Penders filed a lawsuit. How actually similar the two were and how justified it was is something I can't tell you since I'm not familiar enough with either of the two. I don't know the exact details of it, so you're going to have to look at that yourself if you want to know more, but it ended Ken Penders no longer writing for the series and any of the characters he created could no longer be used. So the comic had to be rebooted, which is why the reboot exists today and why you won't see characters like Scrouge anymore in the comics. That's at least what I know about it. There's probably a lot more about it I don't know, but considering I've heard the lawsuit was an absolute mess, I probably don't want to know.

+Roger van der Weide There was a discussion on Reddit about how, when it comes to Sonic, folk are more focussed on the _concept_ rather than the _execution_, and I think this video showcases that. A Sonic story played for laughs can work just as much as one that takes itself seriously, _so long as it's done right_. Freedom Planet's a good example of that too in my opinion. It's why I'd love it if the newer titles were written by, say, Nigel Kitching and/or Lew Stringer (who used to work on the (UK) Sonic comic back when it was still "Official") instead of Pontac/Graff, since those guys knew how to write both "silly" and "serious" Sonic stories.

Totally worth the wait, mate and a great way to end the year on. I do like how everyone tells their story from a different viewpoint. And I think this is the first time the G.U.N Commander appears in an animation solely made by you. The Chao massacre reminded me of those epic battles from your old animations. I nearly expected Echidna paratroopers to jump out of a plane XD. And Ken Penders deserves that. I also like Sonic screaming, Amy's rage face and that epic intro of Eggman on the Egg Carrier II.
Awesome job mate, and heres to more animations and dissections in the new year.

+A.Blob.Of.Clay Well, the reason why most people really hate him is for causing legal problems where the Sonic comics can't use a lot of characters anymore.
As for his skills as a writer, how should I describe him...
He's very emotional, so can create very intense drama and emotional situations. But he doesn't think them trough, or goes very deep, it's super obvious and shallow. So for teenagers, his writing works perfect but adults get really irritated by him.
He's kinda like the guy constantly ranting that the goverment is evil and ruining the world, but hen ever seems to have evidence, facts, names, solutions, any context. He has nothing but raw emotion and anger.
That's kinda how his writing comes across to me, writing about how technology is evil or how abusive relationships are evil, but he has nothing to really say about it other that it's really really evil and that we should hate it.
That, and then there's the fact a lot of people are uncomfortable with the topics he choses, like the just mentioned Abusive relationships.
He tends to make the stories a little soap opera-ish at times, again splitting his audience up to those who love it and those who despise it.

Oh, I forgot, there's also the fact he has little respect for the source material and constantly makes his own characters and ideas overide the main material.
Biggest example of that is him Killing of Dr. Robotnik casually in one issue because he considered him boring.
Sally suffered the same fate.
And don't expect any big consequences or story beats tied to their deaths, it happens super casually. "i'm tired of them, boom, dead. Here's my awesome character to replace them instead."
Which, in American comic tradition, forced the other writers to do all kinds of convuluted alternative dimension/ clone/ time travel goofy stuff to fix them up again.
+Roger van der Weide I agree with you for the most part Roger, but I feel there's a few things you overlooked/didn't know in regards to 'Endgame': 1. Endgame was originally meant to be the end of the comic, as the show it was based on got cancelled and no major games were coming out at the time. However, once it was decided that the comic would continue after it already 'ended,' the writers had to scramble to put something together for what happened next after Robotnik died. It didn't go too well. 2. Sally's 'death' was pretty centeral to the ark, and even Sonic is affected to the point that he no longer jokes anymore. It just got undermined by the last minute decision to keep her alive, which happened because... 3. SoA had marketing plans for the character, so they mandated that the character be resurrected. Again, last minute rewrites were necessary. So, in conclusion, sat what you will about how Penders treats the source material, but Endgame was largely out of his control.

This is pretty much the kind of tone the Sonic games actually need. Genuinely more engaging than any of the Pontaff games. Great job as always Roger. Kind of makes me think the SA1 story had genuine potential.

+Eu lia Tu lias To make a very long and complicated story short, and this is from someone who doesn't read the comics either so I don't know all the details but, Ken Penders was one of the writers for the Sonic Archie Comics. During his run he did a huge extended backstory for the Echidna tribe that involved a whole lot of Echidna characters. When Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood was made, it also expanded the backstory for the Echidnas and made a bunch of Echidna characters. So Ken Penders filed a lawsuit. How actually similar the two were and how justified it was is something I can't tell you since I'm not familiar enough with either of the two.
I don't know the exact details of it, so you're going to have to look at that yourself if you want to know more, but it ended Ken Penders no longer writing for the series and any of the characters he created could no longer be used. So the comic had to be rebooted, which is why the reboot exists today and why you won't see characters like Scrouge anymore in the comics.
That's at least what I know about it. There's probably a lot more about it I don't know, but considering I've heard the lawsuit was an absolute mess, I probably don't want to know.

+Roger van der Weide There was a discussion on Reddit about how, when it comes to Sonic, folk are more focussed on the _concept_ rather than the _execution_, and I think this video showcases that. A Sonic story played for laughs can work just as much as one that takes itself seriously, _so long as it's done right_. Freedom Planet's a good example of that too in my opinion.
It's why I'd love it if the newer titles were written by, say, Nigel Kitching and/or Lew Stringer (who used to work on the (UK) Sonic comic back when it was still "Official") instead of Pontac/Graff, since those guys knew how to write both "silly" and "serious" Sonic stories.
This entire video was 10 out of 10. The echidna attack was probably the best part. Penders had me rolling xDD
