I've been looking for content that is aimed at the gongfu serving philosophy for a while now. This really fills that void. It's hard to find content for this in english! Most gongfu cha videos are really focused on how to brew a specific tea. Thanks for making this.
Your videos are what introduced me to Chinese tea. I so happy you're back on TH-cam. Please keep them coming. Looking forward to some day visiting Austin and your teahouse.
Perfect timing! I just bought a new selection of teas to try (sheng pu erh, shou pu erh, oolongs, green teas, white tea...). Glad to hear you again, thank you for the videos!
Hi Sohan, I'm so happy, you're back here! I am learning a lot about tea culture from you and I appreciate that input a lot, because it's so nice and easygoing in spite of the intricate and difficult subject and really motivates me trying it out myself. Best wishes from Hamburg, Germany! Christian
Beautiful, I love listening to you. I've been drinking gong fu tea since 2018 and during I was listening I reflected it's amazing how it shapes my life and my life shapes the way I pour tea
I keep coming back to this video in my head. How you talk about gongfu reminds me of yogic philosophy -- it's not just physical excersize, it can be a consideration of how one engages with everything ❤ PS, I would love a video someday where you demonstrate some of the pouring nuances you talk about here!
I just saw that there is a new episode and haven't even watched it yet but this series got me into tea one year ago and it had been one of the best thing to ever happen to me. Thank you so much for your amazing videos hope there is more to come ❤
Finally! I no longer have to check back every day to see if there is a season 3... :)) Thank you for continuing to teach us! Wish you all the best for this season!

Clicked "play" immediately. I really missed this channel. And please tell us that you're selling that beautiful bowl on the far right (looks handmade, multicolored).
Thank you for this information! Of course, it is blowing my mind that I just bought an electric tea kettle that shows the exact temperature to boil certain teas when I could have stayed with my stovetop tea kettle. But I liked when you discussed having the right "feel" and "mindset" when making the tea. When I first started, I felt there was a meditation-type zen that I needed to find while experiencing the tea. It is innate to seek the joy of tea. Thank you ❤
So incredibly excited for season 3! I watched your videos at the very start of my Gongfu Cha journey, as well as plenty of Floating Leaves Tea. I am forever grateful for the knowledge you have shared!!!
Great to see this series return! I've been practicing for just under a decade, but only recently started hosting monthly open invites at my house for tea. It's been a huge reminder of what makes tea special, and a bringer of new lessons in listening and responding. Happy brewing! Also, the Thomas Merton Chuang Tzu is an absolute favorite of mine 🙏🏻
5:00 WCT children's book :) tea go vessel, water go vessel, water make tea, tea go second vessel, tea go cup, tea go mouth. all is right with the world.
Earlier this year, I brought my teapot and some high roasted GABA oolong to a friend's house party. The response was positive in general, but I especially appreciate one person would said the tea had "aligned his chakras" and laughed. That makes me happy because I not only brewed this tea so that he would enjoy it, but contributed to an environment where he felt at ease. His response also makes me feel like I am on my way to putting my heart in the tea.
@@TeaHouseGhost - Thanks! I'm glad my qi was complimentary. With further practice and the example of cha ren like you, it can hopefully become even more so.
I just got into tea a few months ago, and your content was by far the best for scratching the itch to go into a deep dive of all things tea. I was sad it was so long ago, and I hoped to see you back! You look well.
Wow, as you are talking about using boiling water and technique to treat different teas I was reminded of my method at my office. In short we have several folks who like tea and Im the most experienced/invested in sharing and as a result prepare a variety of types, blends, mixes with herbals etc. We only have a water cooler with a hot spigot and the temperature is not marked. Working out of a pot with a basket, Ive been doing something like that based on how tight I pack the leaves, how fast I pour, whether I put the hot water on directly or go to a second pot to drop the temp slightly. Ive run everything from white teas to black tea through this little pot and while its not really gong fu in a recognizable sense I like to think it draws on that tradition based on what I learned on this channel.
This is brilliant, thanks very much for sharing! You mentioned different pouring techniques that allow you to use boiling water - how can we learn more about these techniques?
Quick inquiry for you SoHan. A goal of mine this year is to share my passion for me with my friends and community. In order to so, I will obviously have to share my brews with people and it my intent to host parties of anywhere from 3 to 5 and make it a social event. That said, I am wondering what size gaiwan/teapot I should use. Conventional wisdom on the matter, according to the internet, says 120ml should be enough for a party of 4 but my own experience tells me the size may be too small. Additionally, finding a gaiwan 150ml or larger has proven to be somewhat difficult with most being between 90-120ml. Do you have recommendation of where I may find some larger gaiwans (+teacups)? Based on your experience, what volume size of brewing vessel would be appropriate for my intent?
@@OutgoingCanasian hi! This is Echo (the person who runs this channel), but I would recommend using a 120mL gaiwan and just pouring twice into the gong dao bei before serving. Each tea will go a little faster but this is how we do it when we are serving a lot of people at the Teahouse at once
This has been such an interesting and fun series to follow, or i should say it will be now that new episodes seem to be the pipeline. I binged through the existing episodes a few months back when i first started exploring tea as more mindful ritual over coffee (regardless of my love for it) Since coffee was not helping with anxiety and my heart rate. I really do appreciate the communication that gongfu isnt a ridged " must be done this way " practice. I wont pretend how i make tea isnt jank, multiple steeps in a french press poured into a mason jar to cool in the fridge over night. By no means traditional, but its nice ritual to do each night, gives me beautiful cold tea in blistering florida mornings, and been a tangible learning experience. I have some of that coffee person anal retentiveness so it give me a little dopamine hit to see how tempature varitations at different points in the sessions present themselves in glass the next morning. Once I sketch out how to get the experience i want out of one tea, i start exploring another so i can see what it has to teach me, and funny enough the next tea im exploring is the Purple Moonlight from y'all. Im eagerly awaiting the bing, and look forward to drinking it while watching more videos in the series new and old! Good vibes and good tea be with you!
Thank you for sharing the gongfu tradition, and mitigating any sense of pretense that so often trys to sneak in when the West emulates the cultures and traditions of the East.
