I have the Aneng SZ17 meter. I look at it as a poor man's Fluke. It has true RMS, Autoranging, and a bar graph. It only measures to 600 volts. That is fine for me. Thank you for the video and good luck with the camera setup.

Got my stereo all set up after being mothballed for a few years and everything seemed to work except the audio out. I finally realized the CA2000 did not go red prior to green upon powering up. Took me a while to realize the problem. I’m grateful in a way because I know from experience it’s a much easier piece to transport having hauled my BA2000 to the pawn shop more than once in Okinawa back in 1977-78. In any event I found this video and truly enjoyed your approach to troubleshooting. I learned the best troubleshooter is a lazy troubleshooter. I’m subscribed and will be looking forward to more content. I’m not ready to fix my own gear but you definitely gave me a bit of a boost in that department. Very good stuff

And since your are going to be likely bombarded with suggestions... 🙂With the picture-in-picture I think it would be better to not use it unless there is something "important" to go in the small window. Second thought might be to turn off auto focus on the over bench camera but close the aperture down to increase the depth of field (if possible). That will mean the camera won't hunt for what to focus.
Nice camera setup. I really like that "look down" camera. I guess that really helps with soldering so you don't need to go around camera. I never knew that Sansui had 6 gang pots. In CA-3000 there is simple dual gang pot but i guess since CA-2000 is a bit newer model so they tried to do something new.
I think I preferred the original way of doing videos but that just me, the contrast also seems far too high but I appreciate that people nowadays can’t cope with anything but a highly polished video. I actually think the schematics are much easier to read when filmed from the paper. I’m sure I’ll get used to it though. All the best.

Seems like there should be a "scene" setting that would allow you to save all your parameters on that video mixing board....I don't know for sure tho. Looks great regardless.
Is your camera filming in interlaced mode? The actual picture quality is very nice, but you have to film in progressive. Your Sony is in progressive mode though, as is your computer output, so it’s not an encode problem, definitely a camera setting issue. TH-cam correctly shows 1080p.

I assume the 6-gang pot can be replaced with a 4-gang one and the final gang just be shorted with an appropriate resistor, if those pots eventually go bad. Noise will be slightly higher. Curios what the comparison would look like but I assume they will compare within the equipment noise figure, if both are properly tuned. The new camera setup is much nicer, will take a bit for the operator to get used to that. I assume the settings can be saved, probably as a preset.

The only reason I can think for using a dual stage setup would be to reduce distortion from the pre-amp, if it were to rise with gain.
There's more than one reason you use a preamp. One reason is of course the adjustment in gain. The other one, however, is impedance related. Putting the pot before the preamp means the pot is adjusting a signal that goes into what is usually a high input impedance system. That reduces current flow, and as such also reduces any heat parameter shift or inductance or capacitance effects experienced due to current flow. Secondly, the output stage of the preamp may very much not like having a potentiometer on it and require a high current flow relative to the input. A potentiometer will cause that output stage to experience varying impedance, and most likely does mess with its characteristics and performance. There's a reason op amp buffers are so frequently used, and this is one of them. Buffers act as impedance interference and impedance effects "nullifiers" by providing a regenerated, unaffected signal where the output is the same impedance or characteristically identical between low and high output voltage.
hi mr Tony.. see if you can adjust the aperture of the top camera and still get adequate lighting (say f11 and above, it will require a higher ISO value)... blurred background sure looks artistic but imo combined w/ focus seeking, small aperture is detrimental to viewers' experience for this sort of content. the camera may also have different focusing modes, you want a 'subject tracking algorithm' that's not super snappy. imo 'hd web cam' types are adequate for image quality for this type of content, less power consumption and smaller size... ps: excellent idea for the comparison between the two devices.
But the million dollar Q stays unanswered: what blew two equal resistors, one in the positive line, one in the negative line, in one go... Could be magic. It is 0.4 Watt they dissipate at idle.

The new camera has terrific resolution! I can zoom in on the tightest spaces without any loss of image quality. It’s amazing!

My thought is they are the famous sansui fusistors. Known for slowly drifting open.
One reason for such setup to blow would be a short across V+ and V- instead of across V+ and GND or V- and GND.
