I need to appreciate your work and videos, Roman. Honest, no bullshit, down to earth, not a trace of elitism and gate keeping, very skilled and a cool guy. Thank you for hours of entertainment and information 🙏🏼
I'm glad you made that disclaimer at the beginning about the fact that this is your job. You're far more down to earth about equipment and the perception of need. I'm still shopping for my first Fuji prime. Thanks again for the info... Have a great week.
What are you considering? If I were to start again I would have a hard time knowing what to buy. I started with the XC 15-45, then bought Chinese MF lenses: 25, 35 and 50mm. Then I finally had money for Fujifilm lenses and now I own the 16 2.8, 35 1.4 and 50 f2. I mostly use the 16 and 35, but the 50 is really amazing. Now I am thinking about the 23 😂
@@venom2k2 I have been thinking of f2 primes. I do have two vintage primes. They are Canon FD lenses, a 50mm and a 135mm. But, I do want Fuji primes. I was thinking of starting with the 35 f2, then see how that goes. I'm only an enthusiast shooter, not making money from photography. So, the f2 primes should be fine for me. I must admit that the 33mm f1.4 is tempting, but it's just too expensive for me.
@@leestanford2452 I've seen several vids about that new3 33. But, just doesn't make sense for me given the price. I may consider selling one of my guitars to get some lenses though. We'll see... :-)
The end of the video when you dropped the "f" bomb was the icing on the cake for another highly instructional video. Cheers, Mr Fox, safe travels, and regards to Faizal.
Never change, man. I love the laid-back vibe of your videos - a great source of inspiration and knowledge, yet very entertaining with no posing or pumping unnecessary consumerism. Cheers and happy travels!
I binged a ton of your videos this past week and I must say, I think you're my favorite photographer on TH-cam. Your advice and insight have encouraged me to finally jump into photography, a leap I've been hesitant to make just because of the money investment. But I feel confident, and I feel excited, and I attribute much of that to your videos. Cheers!
Last June I came back from 2 years of travel with my XT2, 16mm 1.4, 27mm 2.8, and GoPro 7. We spent alot of time in SE Asia and my big challenge, gear wise, was keeping my gear and bag dry. Even if you don't get caught in a downpour, the humidity can really add up (in the Philippines during rainy season my gear would get damp in my bag sitting in the hotel). I'd recommend getting an additional water proof rain cover for your camera bag, keep some desiccant packs inside, and pick up some small Pelican cases to store your SD cards and SSDs. Hope you have an awesome trip!
If you need another bag, I really like my Wandrd Prvke. I had to get the waist straps to move the weight onto my hips for long hikes with my heavy gear, but besides that it's been great.
Great video Roman, and happy travels! Did the opposite of you, travelled till I got bored (broke), then now setting up photography shop and reliving travel adventures through the video edits. Cheers, be safe and have fun out there!
Thanks for this video. You're the reason there's a 16-55 on my XT 3 right now. When I saw a photo of your lens I knew you were someone who actually USED the heck out of it. I first bought a used one which was disappointing, I think it was someone else's problem child. I sent it back and bought a new one. This is my living and I need something I can depend on. So far very pleased with it.
Hi Roman, I guess I'll just join the other comments in saying thanks for your way of doing your videos, the way you come across, very simple cool and respectful of your viewers👌😉 by emphacizing right away that your gear is that way because you do this for a living, but I still listening to your point of views or advices, one always learns🤞😎📷☀️
Thanks for your interesting insights! In two weeks, I'll be on a business trip to Luxembourg (EU Council meeting) where I'll be taking photos and video. My setup will be similar: 1 XT-4, the 16mm (f1.4), the 33mm, the 10-24mm (which is the main difference to your kit - I want to get some ultra-wideangle shots) and the 50-140. Since I need to shoot while travelling (using the night train), I will only take a backpack and use the capture clip when I need my hands free. Two backpacks would be just too much for me, but 2 days is easy to cover in 1 backpack.
Oh, btw: you can use that little table tripod as a mic stand. You could even connect it to the Rode Wireless Go transmitter and make it wireless, e.g. for interview situations or when filming an event where you want to place the mic close to the loudspeakers. Little lifehack that saves you in unexpected situations.
3:07 the exact reason I sold all my gear except the x100v and the Pentax67...I grew to hate how much time I spent on what I should bring with me that it lead me sometimes to cancel going out shooting all together...yikes.
I am a bit stocky in my build, not super thin and I workout a bit so that 15liter would just looked super weird on my back. ;-) Even if it was enough, I wouldn't want it since it looks ridiculous...yes I am shallow that way. Love the peak design stuff though. My sling is my bring-everywhere bag with the x100t
A while ago I commented about how I was considering switching to a Canon R6 (with 24-105 f4 RF) for travel and trading in my XT-3 and suite of Fuji lenses (16/1.4, 33/f2, 35/1.4, 16-80 and 55-200) because of the frustratingly inconsistent AF performance of the Fuji, especially in low light. I have now learned the AF better and my hit rate is now much better. So at $4,000, I’ll skip the R6 with 24-105 and stick to my beloved XT-3. It and the 16-80 and 33 1.4 in my Billingham Hadley Small Pro are what I’ll be walking around with. I’ll probably take my 55-200 too, in my carry-on backpack. That, plus my circular Polarizer and 4X ND filter will do it all for me. My iPhone 13 Pro is more than adequate for any videos I intend to take, which will be only of family. If I upgrade, I’ll see what the next gen Fuji cameras have to offer. But I can very well be perfectly happy with my current kit for the next 15 years at least.
I use Blackmagic cameras for my professional video work, but got an XS10 for my holiday videos and photos, love how compact it is and the quality is so good for a small camera. So far have the 15 - 45 and 35mm f2 which work great for my needs, maybe get the 16 - 55mm 2.8 later on as a replacement for the kit lens.
Can you please make a video and talk about the issue of the new samyang 12mm af f2 lens. Concerning the problem with the ibis when used in combination with the x-s10. Because for some reason, the ibis stops working. Fujifilm and samyang are not doing anything to fix this, but maybe if we get enough people talking about it, they will address the problem. Thank you.
More love for your sharing what camera gear is currently working for you. Very interesting. Was curious: do you use any filters or external flash in your kit?
If you put an X-t4 in the same bag as a GoPro, will they have a baby X-Pro?

I wonder what are you doing about insuring your gear. It might not be the most glamorous topic, but it would be nice to know what steps you can take to protect yourself from theft or other mishaps.
Roman i have questions about the 50-140. How is it in shooting on the street? Is it good without a tripod? Im thinking of adding it to my travel kit but im in my 50s, female, and i dont have the greatest stamina or balance. However i want those long compressed shots and subject separation that i just couldnt get with my basic nikon setup dx lenses. Wondering if i should just stick to a wide prime, get the 18-135 or 55-200. Also my backup is an x100v. Thx
Or you can travel with a z fold 3 and iPad, both are usbc so you can use the same charger and accessories (SD card reader). Can't do that with an iPhone 🙄. Ever since I got my fold 3 I don't even take my mac with me anymore.
I heard of them and my mate has one but just don’t like how they look tbh…. I think eventually I will go back to Bellroy when they update their bags and fix issues as they just look more sleek. Peak design ain’t too bad tho and a good compromise
It looks like you got the peak design attachments straight into the mounting lugs of the camera, without any rings. Any tips for doing that? I tried to push inner lug out without success.
Very nice gear! But looks heavy. I’m just a hobbyist, so I prefer a much lighter setup for traveling. On my next vacation, I was thinking I’d only take the 14mm, 35mm, and the xc50-230… unless my vacation is during the rainy season. :)
Hey Roman, nicely done, straightforward as always. Two things came to mind: - if your wanders bring you to Brazil, let me know! - have you considered joining Pack Hacker Pro? It's an awesome community of travelers, gear heads and a good amount of photographers. You'd feel right home! Take care of there!
Great video. I highly recommend you (and anyone with a MacBook for that matter) to try the display scaling setting "more space" in the display preferences. It gives you waay more screen real estate and effectively makes UI elements smaller which is very handy for photo and video editing. If you have normal to decent eye sight you will adjust to it very quickly. I have the 16" M1 Pro version and using that with "more space" just gives a huuge amount of screen real estate and video editing is very comfortable.
@@snapsbyfox You're welcoime mate. I always planned on getting the 14" for better portability (coming from a 13" Lenovo) and then making up for the size by using the more space scaling. In the last moment I switched to the 16" and I do not regret it, but it sure is big and heavy. But given that you will travel so much and also have the big iPad as a second screen that should be plenty of screen. Have you tried the Viltrox Lenses? I got the 23mm f1.4 and it is one hell of a nice lens for 300 Euros (not that their lenses would or could replace your current gear, not really targeted at your price point :) )
Even though I recently moved from Fuji to Nikon (simply because a buddy I shoot with uses Nikon and made sense having similar cameras), I have a similar set up in terms of lens choices for both my travel and fashion photography. re primes I have the same focal lengths: 28mm 1.8 full frame (18mm APCS) and 50mm 1.8 full frame (33mm APSC) are perfect for travelling as very sharp and can crop as I see fit (I have a Nikon D850 DLSR with 46 megapixels). To be honest when I travel I'd use those two only. I also have a zoom 70-200mm full frame that is handy but I use that lens mostly for my fashion stuff (at 200 the subject separation is phenomenal!). On the shopping list is some ultra wide zoom too both for the architectural shots (buildings when I travel!) and fashion! Re bag, I have something relatively compact to fit the camera body, my three lenses, charger and batteries, flash. if I do fashion, I have a granny's shopping trolley where I fit in my stand, umbrella, strobe, tripod... Editing tools: yes when I travel I bring with me both laptop and tablet (the desktop version of Photoshop is light years better than the App version!).
They are a bit close together. Makes more sense to use 24mm & 50mm. You say you have a lot of megapixels so you could easily crop into a 28mm FOV but you can’t go back to 24mm and included what was never captured.
@@kevrosas1 works for me. When I was traveling last summer with my then Fuji camera, I shot 90% of times either at 18mm (28mm full frame) or 35mm (52mm full frame). They're definitely not close IMO.
