We've been a big fan of yours for at least 25yrs. Your videos and travel guides were the main source and inspiration for our trip of a lifetime in mid-May 1999. We traveled with our 14month old and ~4yr old. We rented an apartment in the 11th Arrondissement for 7 days to do Paris properly. We did a pretty thorough of seeing most of the most famous sights. The Louvre, Musee D"Orsay, Sainte-Chappelle, Chateau D' Azay Le-Rideau and others were in strike during that week. They opened the Louvre on Thursday of that week so EVERYONE in Paris on their trip of a lifetime were there. There was a 2-3 hour wait in line to enter the I.M. Pei Pyramid in the court yard to see the Louvre. We, brilliant tourists that we were, took the subway to the beautiful underneath entrance and had zero wait! On Pont Neuf we walked down a short narrow alley that opened on to a tree filled triangular park with a bocce pitch (similar the the French Petanque) with bowlers in the middle. Both sides of the "V" had small cafe's facing the park and also had some sidewalk seating. No Americans found this! Now to the point! We walked up and down Rue Clere pushing our child, camera bag, jacket laden double stroller and savored (and purchased) the unbelievable abundance of fresh everything available. Must have been the afternoon because there lots of shoppers and no vehicles. That also was our favorite street, so local, so real, so French, so lush, so intimate and mainly hearing French. We were in PARIS! Steve, you "pan" too fast and are making us a bit queasy. Love the content!
I really enjoy the concept of just walking the neighborhood checking out the shops and the people, that's essentially what we do when we travel. More of this please. And maybe a quick lesson from your regular camera person for future videos. I was getting dizzy, Haha.
very cool to come across this video! when we were in Paris last October we stayed just one street over from the top end of Rue Cler (Hotel de la Tulipe). each day we walked up and down Rue Cler 2-3 times, dined in one of the cafe patios and bought some basic groceries to keep in our room. we found that it really came alive at night a lot more than in the day.
Whenever I am looking for inspiration in Paris, Italy or the English countryside I end up finding the best videos on your channel. You capture the essence of these areas. So good....so inspiring. I almost want to bless you as the best travel vlogger ever.😍
wow! I stumbled upon this exact same street while walking around 7 years ago! I was watching it and thinking, this place looks so familiar! It's so nice to see a video tour of it again, I'm heading down this July with my parents so now I know the name of the street i don't have to try and find it! Thank you for sharing
I love Paris, have spent too much time on the right bank and up in the northeast. Will get to Rue Cler next time and maybe stay on the left bank. I've watched many of your great videos, thanks for the pleasure and curiosity they bring to me. First rule of shooting video: When you move the camera, move it slowly. I got so dizzy I fell of my chair 12 times. Also maybe use a slightly wider lens so moves are less distracting.
We will be there for our first trip to Paris next week. I'm packing for summer dress with the kids but people seem dressed for almost fall. Now I'm a little worried but it looks beautiful otherwise. Cheers!
we have strict norms for food in france , the fish are in refrigerated storage. Do you see the ice under the fishs ? the storage inox in this shop is a refrigerator but without door or windows. In a supermarket there are little windows + ice + refrigeration + a salesman controling the buyers and serving them. This little shop has a storage with windows too 2:29 (on the left) . The flies don't like cold and a fish shop is cold.
paris is not the cleanest city of europe . North europe is even better for Cleanliness of cities. Swiss is the best for that. otherwise The food in france is a very serious thing ; ) we don't mess with food ...
I really love the slice of life moments rick shares on his blogs. Also have you considered visiting Iceland? Technically it is not part of Europe but was settled by Norway and has great mix of Norwegian culture and one of a kind Icelandic scenery.
Hi Adeel, this is Rick's assistant Evelynn. I'm so glad you're enjoying Rick's blog videos. Yes, Rick has visited Iceland - you can see all of his blog posts from his last trip to Iceland at blog.ricksteves.com/blog/tag/iceland/. We will have the first edition of our Iceland guidebook available by spring/summer 2018. Thanks for the suggestion, and keep on travelin'!
I could have enjoyed the video a lot better if the camara wasn't moving too fast...it made me dizzy. But great content and loved the idea of filming the market 😃
Rick, you need to get a small 4K point and shoot camera with good video capability (I suggest you check out the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX10K ) as well as a small microphone that has a windscreen on it. Pair that with a Manfrotto handheld tripod and you've got a recipe for making great on-the-fly travel videos! Believe me, I LOVE these intimate little travel videos you make, but as others have stated, this video in particular got me dizzy and the sound was pretty awful. Just something to consider!
Was this filmed in the last few days? I notice that Parisians are wearing coats, etc. Just wondering what the weather during the time that this video was made.
Hello @Aarti Rathod It's just because he doesn't want to create a conflict with the traders on the street by appearing to be too intrusive in their shops. He also avoids filming faces in the street. Again, this is to avoid being asked to remove the videos or being forced to blur those faces. That's why there are these incessant swaying and very fast camera movements. To do well, he should go see all the traders before starting filming and ask them for permission to film, explaining to them that's for a travel blog. If he told them beforehand exactly what he's going to do when he'll enter their store. I'm sure traders would gladly accept. After all, this is good publicity for their products. He might even ask them a few questions. The sightseeing would be more pleasant for us and the filming less complicated for him. :)
most of the people in Europe, most people who live in big cities anywhere in the world. the idea is that you spend very little time in your home and more time out enjoying life.
There are a lot of folks that wonder why anyone would bother buying a house - all that upkeep, yard maintenance, etc. If you want to live around millions of people and be in the heart of a city, you aren't going to have space for a 3000 sq. foot house. It is simply a different way of living.
I like videos like this, they give an unedited view of daily life.

I like the neighborhood walking videos.
My husband and I stayed there last year based on your videos. It was like home. I loved waking up to the street noises in the morning.

Such a great area! We love it
No wonder why Paris is one of, if not the, most favorite city of Rick Steves.
Hi Rick, just got back from Istanbul and Rome yesterday. Paris😁went there 9/2009. Love Italy and Turkey- very friendly people.

Wow.. The market is nice.
We will be there for our first trip to Paris next week. I'm packing for summer dress with the kids but people seem dressed for almost fall. Now I'm a little worried but it looks beautiful otherwise. Cheers!
I like these type of informal videos.

That's wonderful! It's great to know that they are strict in food. It really fascinates how clean the place is.

what a beautiful place in the world
I really like this casual one! But please get a Gopro for these.

Thanks Evelyn for the link! I'm excited to to see his adventures there. Cheers!
I was so eager to view this but it made me seasick so I hopped off after 90 seconds.
I hopped off after 18. I'll just listen and not focus on the video too much haha. Mainly because I know he has great contents!
More 9 minute videos!!!!
My 'hood when I visit Paris! I think he shot this when I was there in March.
You're no brash American, you're a real man of the world!
Love it !!
Well Cafe Roussillon does have verified 4 stars on Tripadvisor as shown their cafe window, so its honest
I could have enjoyed the video a lot better if the camara wasn't moving too fast...it made me dizzy. But great content and loved the idea of filming the market 😃
I'd easily live in a place like that!!!

What camera did you use to make this video? Thank you
This was my favorite street in Paris :)
Where is it specifically?
Are you there right now? Why are people wearing such heavy coats? I thought it was getting warmer? Next week the forecast is for highs in the 90"s.
Was this filmed in the last few days? I notice that Parisians are wearing coats, etc. Just wondering what the weather during the time that this video was made.
you are moving the camera too fast too much. slow down
Make your own videos and show us how its done!

hungover rick
Man I wanted a better look at the shoes!! lol
You should try Periscope
Didn't quite catch what you were saying about the new French president at 1:02.
Hi Rick, Pharmacists aren't allowed to diagnose anything in France, that's not part of their monopole.
Hey Yann, You're wrong!
Is this the street where you got pickpocketed?
Cool little video...and condoms outside the pharmacy...ok France
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Photographer's vacation
OMG. So much better than America. I'll just be poor here and spend the money for good coffee.
totally glossed over the condom dispenser
You are recording this video like a TH-cam amateur; a shaky camera that moves around too much with poor sound quality.
Had to turn it off ....made me dizzy. I would have loved it but ....C'est la vie
oh get a life!
Starting all over again as a beginner?
Keep that cam fixed !!
This is terrible to look at !
Next time hold the camera straight. 😂
Rue Mouffetard is better...more locals and fewer tourists.
poorly filmed video
WHO WOULD WANT TO LIVE THEIR WHOLE LIVES IN APARTMENTS?
most of the people in Europe, most people who live in big cities anywhere in the world. the idea is that you spend very little time in your home and more time out enjoying life.

The apartments are where sleep and wash up. One LIVES outside an enjoys the streets, neighborhoods, food, culture and on and on!
can you visit the part of Paris that's being destroyed by the refugees...
you are a very sad person.
