My granddaughter's HS orchestra played this, she's a cellist, and im obsessed with it. It's so peaceful, yet soars in places. Meditative and emotional. Truly beautiful, especially when your granddaughter is part of the orchestra.
My orchestra also played it but in 8th grade 3 years ago. It’s such a gorgeous piece of music. Now I’ve moved on and I’m not really moved by orchestra music anymore, but this one always has moved me. This music means so much to me because it was one of my last ever concerts, before I stopped playing. Our families friend came to watch because she always wanted to see me play, and it was her last chance. She was so joyous towards everyone, and that was the last time I saw her, before she passed away from an illness.
1:38 to 2:14 violins Tip: lots of vibrato for this one!! Make it sound beautiful :) or as some people say, tell a story with it. Even though this is a lyrical piece, make sure to focus on your technique as well. Work on making those high notes sound as good as you can. Press down firmly with your fingers. Don't be afraid to use a lot of bow. Be careful with intonation for those higher notes. Play slowly with a tuner if you aren't sure or play notes an octave lower and then try it at the correct octave I've played this song before in a youth orchestra (2018-2019 season). It's a very beautiful piece and I hope everybody auditioning is able to enjoy this as a piece, not just an excerpt to be played (that sounds cheesy). I wish everybody the best :) (You might see me putting timestamps for the middle school and 9 & 10 pieces)
2:46 to 3:20 violas Your part might sound weird (sorry I'm not a violist and I can't remember what the viola part sounds like exactly) and in this version you can't really hear the viola line (unless my ears just don't work lmao). Play it with a recording and see if that helps (but also don't forget to play by yourself too; that way it's easier to hear any mistakes). Use lots of vibrato. I hope you're able to enjoy playing this :) it's a beautiful piece
From Kjos Music: We made the correction in the printed score/part prior to going to press. The "A" heard in the recording in meas. 113 matches printed music. Thanks for your keen observation!!
this song was dedicated to my orchestra teacher Mrs. Peterson of Marquette schools. I love this song so much, I would like to thank William Hofeldt.

Played this in orchestra! Easy but really pretty! A really great piece by William Hofeldt.
Out of curiosity, what instrument do you play?
@@reptileepic6945 definitely not the cello
@@Clark-cn4kp Believe me, I know. As a cellist this piece is very difficult, but it does sound nice.
@@reptileepic6945 bur it's not that difficult tho..
Played this in 7th grade and got first place! I still listen to it 4 yrs later

To the 2 people that disliked this: Why do you do this to a beautiful piece like this, there is no need for that.
Ack now its 3! Emphasize the message :)
I will never stop coming back to this piece to play every now and then just for fun... there is so much hidden beauty in simplicity.

Misprint at bar 113 in the 2nd violin part, seems the A on the 3rd beat was not notated in the score
Thank you for letting us know! We will look into it. If you find any misprints please feel free to contact us via our website kjos.com/
