Yeah, these UMX are the best 'fly anywhere" RC planes, BUT they do not handle wind well. Some do better than others but they all fly AMAZINGLY when its calm. They do ok at 3-5mph winds and become scary about 8mph winds.
I received mine the other day same as you my winds were 8-10mph and it handle the wind really good took out this morning again with winds 3-5mph still great I think a new flyer could handle it in safe and low rates its nice and mellow good videio
About 18 months ago I started working with RC planes. Although drones are my main thing. Planes are super fun and inexpensive. It's also very addictive and a constant progression. The only problem is storage space! They are everywhere. 😂
I have the exact same issue. I went crazy in early 2023 and purchased a boat load of 2 meter wingspan planes. Now I have no storage place for them, so now I focus more on smaller size planes a meter or less in size.
Perhaps the most balanced review I've seen on this plane. Apparently, you didn't get it free from HH. 😊 Thank you. [Just kidding RC Saylors, Brian Phillips, et al.]
absolutely brilliant love it and the prise perfect but i have to stop buying although i have one similar made of balsa wood and have to build it and can't wait to fly it great review again Steve.
Nice! Another great vid. God bless you up in the great white north... it's a beauty way to go.. lol I couldn't handle the cold anymore. Living in warmth- greetings now from Florida
@CAPTAINDRONE798 O feel your pain sir, I truly do. I've only been here for 27 days. The first 3 days I stripped down to 1 thin layer of clothes . My body was getting used to 17dgreens so 80 was HOT !
Flying a micro in Ottawa in sub-zero wind-chill weather. Damn, all my stuff is put away till April. Oh, and that little plane needs a Walksnail HD system for some cool FPV. All the new UMX planes are so well designed; but yes, biplanes in general are not for beginners.
A sub 250 gram Bi-plane sounds like a winner to me. I was amazed it handles the additional weight of the Insta 360 go2. As far as the durability of the foam well UMX planes can only be so tough when built so light. Extra care on landings is noted. I purchased one yesterday and look forward to adding it to my UMX collection of awesome flyers. Great video and fair review. New Captian Drone nick name ( Ice Pilot )?
As always Steve, sooo entertaining & addictive. I just might get one as they have come down to A$240 here in OZ. I wonder which is the most popular colour White or Yellow (I think yellow)
FYI Three ways to say Waco, one is correct. The other two, not so much. Waco with the 'a' sounding like 'Wacko' is a crazy person. Waco with the 'a' sounding like 'Wake' island is a town in Texas. Waco with the 'a' sounding like "Awful" is a biplane. Great video.
Captain Drone , I need your advice, what is the best drone for a beginner vlogger like me who has no experience, whatsoever using this kind of gadget. This will be my christmas gift to myself. I've been saving all my coffee budget for this heh-heh-heh. Thanks. Appreciate your help.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Best drone for a vlogger at a budget price is the DJI mini 2 se. You can also check out the Potensic ATOM (not the SE, but the ATOM), there is also the Fimi mini 2 and Faith mini 2.
The old Umx red Pitts is much more durable, just not as detailed looking. I bought the old red Pitts long ago, and it has been beat up significantly more, but still flies great.
@Pwow1 The P51D Mustang by Volantex is an awesome plane for beginners. The 400mm and the 750mm planes are both user friendly with built in gyro for easy flying with the optional Beginner,Moderate and Expert modes. Well balanced planes and easy to set up.👍🏻
Nice review and flying as always! I saw that you also flew the volantex P-47. I'm able to fly the volantex warbird in expert mode, using my radiomaster boxxer. Since you have experience with this UMX models, wich one would you recommend as "next step" for me? The Waco, the voodoo or the Conscendo? I searched online and can't get an opinion on the difficulty level to fly these planes. Greetings from Italy!
Out of those 3 UMX planes, I like them in this order: Concendo (fly in any weather) Waco (flies slow & looks great but easy to damage. Voodoo (Fast, so if you like to fly fast with tiny planes it’s great) Here is a 4th option that is outstanding… Micro Draco. Looks gorgeous & flies extremely well.
On my TH-cam channel I use about 20 different Radios (also called Transmitters, or if you come from the DJI world, you call them remotes). For flying airplanes I only use Spektrum radios because I have become very use to them and can setup a plane in the radio in a matter of seconds.
Nope. Any Spektrum-compatible transmitter can be used. Any Multi Protocol Radio (with the 4-in-1 module in it or on it) will fly this - and hundreds of other different brands. Why shackle yourself to only over-priced proprietary products right from the start? Also this IS a beautiful little plane that flies very well - but, as Steve rightly said, in the hands of a competent pilot. If you are a beginner keep the broom and the chequebook handy! The EPS foam used in UMX planes is FRAGILE!!!
I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to reply, and clarifying the plane and who should consider flying it. I have a RadioMaster boxer with 4-1 with the ELRS add-on, and have just used it on min in whoops, good to know what the 4-1 can be used for, a friend told me to get the 4 -1 and if I wanted to try ELRS to get the add on transmitter, to save money until I really knew if I enjoyed the sport. Well I have been flying DJI minis for and while and wanted to try FPV, got lucky got about $2,000 worth of goggles and controllers and about 5 FPV, so for $400.00, they guy has decided to fly wing because of owner ID REQUIRMENT, he know it's required for plane to, but decide to not comply, his call, is my be if it.. I just flew one of the beginner planes you recommended that cam with a controller, more like a toy, and I am hook at the age o 66 years old and loving every minute of it, still can t fly off FPV well, but having fun, TRYING, I ALSO have a few car/ truck remotesyou review, and a hlicoptor. Things are going well, just fpv kicking my BUTT Myngrandson has picked up on it and loves it., won't be long before I am the student😀
@@dondupuis4007That is great to hear. Most of the guys I fly with are all in their 60, 70 & 80s. Age means little in the RC hobby other than it may take a bit longer to retrieve a plane. FPV is extremely difficult to master but the more you practice the more the brain wil get to the point that it clicks in and suddenly you’re flying with little effort.
That voice on the transmitter would drive me crazy it takes away from the peacefulness of flying in my opinion. Whoever thought of that voice idea was not thinking clearly.
The voice is because I took the plane out of the box at the field, and just bound it. Nothing was setup. Most people mute the voice… apparently my frozen brain did not.
Really nice flying, I might add. Should’ve earlier. I love all the Umx’s. The turbo timber evolution being my fav of all time. That one I fly in wind all the time. Can’t avoid it in PNW, if you fly a lot. I have the 1st gen Waco. Will get new one when back in stock. Great honest review.
Nope. Horizon Hobby products all say that as it allows you to switch specific surface areas in flight. I think in my entire year of flying over 80 different RC planes I’ve only met one person who does that, and that one person only owns one plane and flies the exact same plane daily. I also, since learning to fly RC planes, only fly in high rates.. I never fly in low rates (all my RC plane maidens are in high rates full tilt).

I pulled the WACO out of the box and did the BIND in the freezing cold. What you are hearing is the DEFAULT Spektrum setup. There are no humans on the planet that I'm aware of who intentionally setup a radio this way..... well perhaps an 80 year old hearing impaired, but that's the exception.😆
Hey Steve, didn’t recognize u for a second with all the white whiskers. Great video.
Get yourself some good gloves, or what ever it helps you to keep warm flying in The winter. Thank so much I learn so much from you

It would fly great indoors for sure

Very well flown. We still have 2 of the first gen planes but defo got the new yellow one on my list.
Hello i just want to say i love jour videos keep up the great work
Thank you!
The Waco is PERFECT in every way, as it needs no improvements anywhere for any thing.
Got one. Love the waco explanation. Thank you
That paint job reminds me of the stuart little plane, I'd put a little mouse as a pilot on mine 🤣

All set, see in website what radio is required..
Nice vid. I have the older blue and white version.
And its pronounced WACO as in TACO.
Your videos are awesome!! I got the UMX A10.
I did show the UMX A10 in a video last winter
Nice plane and video

I like the details

Yellow pops on bright sunny days and dull days and winter snow flying.

Yes, Wikipedia showed that. However, everyone I’ve ever met says it as I did in the vid… perhaps it’s a Canadian thing emphasizing the “A” 😏
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 no they don’t it Waco with an aha sound. Easiest way to remember is a wako flying a Waco from Waco like the town.
