    This video does not represent the city of Barstow nor does it represent the residents. This vidoe only covers only a small section on the Old Town Area.

    They've recently torn those all down to make way for the new bridge. The 'big houses are apartments". Last time I was in one was in the 80's. They were very cool.

      @@SoCalUrbex74 they haven't torn the bridge down. They tore down those little brick buildings. They are planning on building a new bridge. There is talk of leaving the old one open for foot traffic? I can't exactly remember the details on that. I was there in Sept. 2019 to shoot a short film, Bad Day In Barstow. It's taking a long time to start construction on the new bridge. Some of my footage driving over that old bridge is really jumpy lol. Trying to hold a camera in a BRZ every little bump is magnified. There are huge cracks in the asphalt too.

      Lon Tanner There are two parts of Barstow, the new part were Active Duty Personal from Fort Irwin and Marines Corps. There is also a National Guard Armory Unit. Barstow is also the pit stop before going to Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the Older Historic Part is filled with Low Income, many Homeless and Drug Users. Barstow is also extremely Hot during the Summer

  • @carloswilson671

    I think this area was inhabited in the 1950's It hasn't been vacant too long or the desert would reclaim it. The old highway from Los Angeles to Las Vegas used to pass over that bridge. Barstow is very hot nine months of the year and cold in December and January, The bridge is probably part of historic US 66. It WAS part of historic US 91 which was replaced by I-15 during the 1960's. Today US 91 is decommissioned everywhere south of Brigham City UT.
    The hot dry climate of Barstow is preserving the wooden part of the bridge. In a more moist climate it would be gone.

      Sadly this part of the Historic City has been over taken by Welfare Thugs who do nothibg but sell drugs.

      @thobbs4526 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, that is the 1st Street bridge, never a part of old 66. It leads out to old Highway 58. Highway 66 was/is Main St. in Barstow. I grew up there.

    • @carloswilson671
      @carloswilson671 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thobbs4526
      Interesting I've been over that bridge. It could have been highway 91 only (replaced by I-15) or we could have been off the highways as we normally stopped for gas and refreshment in Barstow. I thought it was curious that part of it was wood. Even in the 1950's a wooden bridge was unusual.
      Note CA-58 replaced the old US 466 (decommissioned) which started in Bakersfield, California, went through Barstow and on to Las Vegas.

    • @thobbs4526
      @thobbs4526 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carlos Wilson I don’t know what to tell you, that bridge takes people in and out of town and toward old Highway 58. I lived in Barstow for over 20 years, the bridge was old when I was there. Every kid taking Driver’s Ed had to drive over it for their driving test, it was always a cheap thrill. It crosses the Mojave River bed and the railroad and leads into First Street, turning right or left onto Main Street, which was the original Route 66. There used to be a lot of restaurants, garages, gas stations and motels on Main (Route 66) to catch travelers, but most of the original downtown has been abandoned due to Barstow being bypassed by the interstate, starting in the early 1960’s. If you look at SoCal Urbex video starting at .50, you’ll see the former Harvey House that was the station for the passengers on the Santa Fe train (before Amtrak). That was a boarded-up dump when I was a kid but was restored and now is a museum. There used to be a lot of beautiful, old, historical buildings in downtown Barstow, but there were burned down, torn down, or boarded up and the town is now kind of a dump.
