I would say, the original singer's voice did Kaoru-san's persona justice in the song. Kaoru-san was about 16 or 17 during the very first time she met Kenshin. Although, girls her age during the Meiji era were already considered as adults, her innocence and at the same time doing her best to be considered as an adult clearly fits how the song was being sung: seemingly childish, but with a more mature overture.
