I love Boscovs ... in fact it is now the ONLY department store I'll shop in anymore. Sure I'll browse in Nordstrom and Needless Mark-up (I mean Neiman Marcus), but I only spend money at Boscov. Good quality, reasonable prices and excellent service.
This Boscovs is seriously one of the coolest stores I've ever been in! It's like taking a trip back in time. I absolutely love all the vintage designs, especially the neon lights and the mirror ceilings. Not to mention, their prices are actually quite reasonable, as another poster mentioned. So cool that it hasn't changed since opening in '89.
Ahh the slow and painful death of my childhood. There was also the West Manchester mall in York that was worse off than the Galleria, but they successfully updated that to a modern strip mall.
Grew up in Dover, high school in west york, spent my time back in the mid 80's at West Manchester Mall, moved to minneapolis in 89, finally moved back here to york in 2019 and MAN has everything changed, lol. ...then again, I was babied with the Mall of America for almost 30 yrs.
When I was there last month, it was actually pretty crowded which, in my opinion, was like a breath of fresh air. All in all I can say this mall is quite lively still and the food court surprised me a lot, all the big names be it local or national were still there and yes, there were living breathing human beings eating!
Omg, I live in York and I just watched this video. Most of the stores that were opened and pictured in this video are closed. Clearly, more dead than before. They are opening a Casino to save it.
I love this mall!!!!! I love the Boscov's and the nice, thriving food court!!!! You did a wonderful job as always Anthony!!!! Take care and stay awesome!!!! Thanks again so very much!!!! 👍🏻😬
Moved to York Pennsylvania back in 1995 and used to shop at this mall all the time up 'til about 2014 when I moved to another state. Haven't been there in years. Heard it's pretty much dead.
This is my mall, happy to see it here. As of my latest visit to the Galleria (January 2020), it's still quite alive, but it is slowly on it's way. It gets just a little more dead with every year. As many have mentioned, a casino is supposed to go in and that may revitalize it (temporarily).
@Magicant Yeah, York is a boring city. I miss the West Mancheddar mall when it was still an indoor mall. But now that they changed that, Galleria is the only option. It's not a bad mall, but the Mancheddar was pretty cool too
This video inspired me to do more DEAD MALL videos. I typically only do abandoned films, but I definitely need to be getting my butt back out there. I'm from the south and we have a ton down here.
Awesome video, and I can see why you particularly like this place. It's the 90s mall astestics of light and color and fun designs and neon (especially that rocking Boscovs store. Makes shopping there more inviting than the bland three tones at Macys... or the closing Bon Ton.) Even the food court looks fun and inviting... my mall turned our food court into a "Food Pavillion." It's not Europe it's a mall food court. Look forward to anything new you add to YOUR Channel. It's YOUR channel and you will put out content that appeals to some, videos that appeal to others and some like me just enjoy everything you put out. Urbexers like That Nate Guy seem to be successful having variety, and make the channels more fun. If you check out York Gallerias Wikipedia page there's talk of putting a mini casino on one floor of the now defunct Sears. Interesting repurposing. But people must make sure they get their shopping done first before possibly losing it all in a casino! HA Look forward to Signal Hill and all your future content.
Wow I was there at Christmas time, the Sears looked amazing, the Bon-Ton was packed and they Mall overall was just great. You should go to the Capital City Mall. That’s my local mall and they got some good stores and some nostalgia.
If you're still in Pennsylvania, check out Westmoreland mall in Greensburg, PA. Yes, it's on the other side of the state, and no, it isn't a dead mall (not even close), but it hasn't changed since its 1994 renovation and has some awesome 90s aesthetics in it, especially in the food court. It even has THREE working fountains in it still!!
This is the closest mall to where I live, have a ton of memories growing up in the mid 2000s going to this mall and the strip mall with the Christmas tree shop in it. The Boscovs as far as I know has had very little updating to it since the mall opened, so a lot of the fixtures are from 1989. Love this mall, it’s one of the few that hasn’t undergone huge renovations or flat out closed. Tons of old stuff, old technology, and old decor in this mall. I vividly remember how cool the old McDonald’s neon sign was. Subway had a neat neon sign too.
I honestly don't see a problem filming any cool or aesthetically pleasing mall. We are fans of malls, not "dead malls" in particular. The reason to film dead malls is merely to archive great malls that most likely won't survive much longer, but as mall lover's I am sure most of us like to see any cool mall. Also, its nice to see a healthy mall sometimes because constant dead mall videos can get overly depressing so its good to see awesome malls that are still thriving.
I really love this mall! Been coming here regularly every time we're in PA since the late 90's. I love the late 80's/early 90's aesthetics, especially in the Boscov's. Love all the neon lighting! I also really liked the JCPenney that used to be here. It's the only one I've seen that had four different entrances, and it had a pretty unique layout. There was also a Ruby Tuesday near one of the JCP entrances and a cool vintage looking candy store across from it. I'm sad that the Bon-Ton closed, as that was another one of my favorite stores here that also had some nice retro designs, especially in the lower level. Btw, this mall is even cooler to see at night! Can't wait til I'm able to come back.
Well we will soon have a casino in it where Sears was. Eventually the whole think will probably become one, a long with a hotel. Which they already have plans for if it does close.
This mall is nearly identical to when it opened in 1988. Boscovs hasn’t changed a bit either. It is unfortunately pretty dismal now, probabally dead since Penny’s, Bon Ton, and Sears closed. Boscovs will never close, that is one of their busier stores in the area. We all hung out here as kids in the 90s. The aesthetics are actually still quite pleasing even today. I hope it can be saved. Penn National is planning on opening a Casino in part of the former Sears, I hope that will help!
I love the strong 80s-90s aesthetic of this mall. You know what can help revitalize such mall like this? If only all those big empty spaces turn into IT oriented campuses and office space. Imagine if Google branch opening shop in one of ex Sears section, or big name video game studio set up shop in there, with their hundreds employees. All the supporting amenities already there, big parking lot space, food court, stores, etc.
If you ever come back up to the GTHA, check out LimeRidge Mall in Hamilton, Mapleview Mall and the Burlington Centre now it is redeveloped (wka Burlington Mall), Oakville Place in Oakville, Square One in Mississauga, Sherway Gardens and Woodbine Centre in Etobicoke, Yorkdale in North York, Vaughn Mills in Vaughn, Scarborough Town Centre in Scarborough, Bramalea City Centre in Brampton, Pickering Town Centre in Pickering, and Oshawa Centre in Oshawa. All are major malls and all have and/or are dealing with the loss of major tenants such as Sears, Eaton’s, Zellers/Target. You saw the Eaton’s Centre in Toronto last summer, you can come up this fall and see the rest.
Awesome you came to my town and mall. Wish I could have met you. I worked at this mall and grew up hanging out there. It's nothing like it use to be. But dang wish i could have met you while you were here.
Four critical stores went out of business that declined foot traffic in the mall. 1. Walden 2. CVS 3. The Wall / FYE / Saturday Matinee 4. Kay-Bee these 4 were linch pins for increasing traffic and honorable mention is the arcade. If malls want to stay alive maybe they should make sure they cover those product niches.
Now in 2020 this mall has gone downhill big time. I used to live about a half hour from this mall back in the 90's, moving away in 2005. Sad to see it in its state now.
Fun fact, the Compass in center court is pointing to true north. My dad was a security guard for the mall while it was under construction since Boscov’s opened before anyone else did, he watched the engineers lay out the compass, it was neat that they did that. Boscov’s is so retro 80s, you have to love the excessive neon everywhere. Camp Hill’s Boscov’s is the same. It still looks nearly the same from when the movie “Mannequin” was filmed there.
The mall has the 'new look' Victoria's Secret, which tells me that despite it having a few vacancies, it's doing OK. Same with my childhood mall (Grand Traverse Mall in Traverse City, MI, which I filmed last Summer). That mall hasn't changed much since it opened in 1992, there's a few vacancies (the whole Target wing is close to a ghost town) and yet, it has a fairly-new H&M and Dunham's Sports, and yes, the modernized VS.
They are planning to open a casino at the former Sears space at this mall. I shopped this more many times and this mall got a tattoo shop. I got two tattoos at the shop and it's unusual to see tattoo shop at an indoor mall but those people in that shopping very nice
I'll tell you what I give kudos to Boscov's they're one of the very few department store still making a profit still family-owned and still able to survive
About 3 or 4 months after that Mall opened MTV done a live shoot from there Adam Curry even hosted Headbangers ball from that mall when MTV was there and I was there for the live shoot as well
Great video Ace! I heard some great news today for Brick and mortar retail.. I can’t remember exact figures but Amazon earnings/stock down i believe 10% in this earnings report indicating people are enjoying getting back out to the malls etc as well as people not wanting to support a monopolist like Bezos. I am in both camps. Cheers all 🥂
OMG the orange-striped carpeting in the Bon-Ton! I noticed how clean everything appears to be! When I compare to the carpet at Century III and look 👀 at the overall cleanliness of the Malls in comparison there’s no contest. York is the standard of how these corporations should run a Mall. If you’re unwilling to sort it out they might as well close now. A leak in the roof? Fix it! Black mild? Locate the source and take the ethical path to show that you care! People’s lives are on the firing line when you file for Chapter 7 and Chapter 11. Their retirement savings are linked to your workplaces and that will have a horrendous effect on their ‘Golden Years’ and from Gen X to Millennials a huge number has been burnt by the Great Recession. Far too many Baby Boomers have been forced to cash in their chips, only to realise that they are worth NOTHING.
I’m sorry that you and Dan have had a falling out. Can you repair your friendship? You both know so much on these topics, and I hope that you can resolve this falling out.
I'm not a fan of the exposed industrial look for ceilings - it's cheap. I would suggest that with the large number of vacancies it's carrying this place is not on the way up, let's put it that way...
Peter Stean they have some grand ideas for the mall that everyone hopes will breathe new life into it. Unfortunately we lost both Sears AND Bon Ton at the same time. Pennys closed years ago. It’s funny because Penny’s and Bon Ton both abandoned their older locations at the York Mall in 1988 at the same time and it didn’t kill that off right away, it took till 2001 when Wards went bankrupt. Wow! I lived in York for a year in 2002 and worked at EB Games - before it was GameStop. They used to have two of them in the mall, one on each level. Ahhhhh the memories!
I'm loving Boscovs late 80s to early 90s design. I'm also loving The Bontons 70s carpet and walls.
I love Boscovs ... in fact it is now the ONLY department store I'll shop in anymore. Sure I'll browse in Nordstrom and Needless Mark-up (I mean Neiman Marcus), but I only spend money at Boscov. Good quality, reasonable prices and excellent service.

It's a very pretty mall! Some of the lighting gave me a Saved by the Bell vibe! Love your videos, Ace!
Where’s screech? Lol 😂
Ahh the slow and painful death of my childhood. There was also the West Manchester mall in York that was worse off than the Galleria, but they successfully updated that to a modern strip mall.

So much bright neon in the Boscov's though, looks fascinating :)
JJMCB26 The one in Camp Hill is just retro 80’s and I love it. It’s always packed full of people.
When I was there last month, it was actually pretty crowded which, in my opinion, was like a breath of fresh air. Love the windows overhead. Lots of beautiful natural light. Great environment. Thanks Ace! :)
This mall is about 10 minutes from my house. They are talking about putting a mini casino in where the Sears was. So this mall isn't dead yet.
While you’re in the area, you should document the colonial park mall in Harrisburg. It’s dead.
Looks like a nice place! It's still 1989 at Boscov's. That was fantastic fun to see, took me right back.
Still as beautiful as I remember it! Epic vid, Anthony!
That Boscov’s is the Neon Dream! 💙💖😻
I love this mall!!!!! I love the Boscov's and the nice, thriving food court!!!!
You did a wonderful job as always Anthony!!!!
Take care and stay awesome!!!! Thanks again so very much!!!! 👍🏻😬

Love the neons in Boscovs!!
Two words for the Boscovs: neon paradise! Love it all!
I live 5 minutes from this mall. I hope Boscovs never remodels that store, but just refreshes it with new carpet and paint, and maintains the neon.
So many memories at this mall. Grew up right across from it

I worked here in 1990 shortly after it opened at a Disc Jockey record store. Can recall this mall being packed on weekends.
Beautiful! Thanks for this.

Good video. Thanks for filming. Can't wait for your next mall video.
ACE! Your videos are excellent, and I happily await what new things you plan to film in the future👍

1990s aesthetics ahhhhhhh.
In 4K it looks even better, nice mall...well preserved.
You've got to see the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Selinsgrove, PA, it's desolate and small, it only has Boscov's and a movie theater as anchors.
Brett Eakin definitely someone needs to film it. That mall’s days are numbered
Good way to archive a non-dead mall now for when in the future it does become dead or get redeveloped.
Well we will soon have a casino in it where Sears was. Eventually the whole think will probably become one, a long with a hotel. Which they already have plans for if it does close.
You should do drive-in theaters. Abandoned and ones that are still open.
Oh man, I remember seeing that Boscov's in another mall video before and I absolutely adore it!
Whats up Anthony? What camera do you like to film with on your mall adventures?
This mall is nearly identical to when it opened in 1988. Boscovs hasn’t changed a bit either. It is unfortunately pretty dismal now, probabally dead since Penny’s, Bon Ton, and Sears closed. I love the way how it first come s on this Video nice work Ace 💖

In my opinion, I love how Boscov decorates...then again I love neon
A living mall that’s really loaded with neon lighting and using real neon tubing! Hope they fill the space left behind by Sears and Bon Ton
Dennyfilms a casino is moving into the sears location.
T.J. Reidenbach awesome!
You should visit my local mall Park City Center in Lancaster, PA. It's not dead by any means but has unique architecture.
geoboe84 I don’t think Park City is ever gonna die! It’s in a great spot, traffic flow could be better but theirs always a ton of cars in the lot!
1:03 🎼🎵🎶🎤 let's JAM!

Hey Anthony what camera did you use to film the shot going up the escalator at 2:19? Looks real clean.
It lost the Sears and Bon Ton in like the same week. I live 30 min away and I definitely felt it from here.
OMG. I remember Nick Arcade!!!!!
That neon...😍
I'll tell you what I give kudos to Boscov's they're one of the very few department store still making a profit still family-owned and still able to survive
About 3 or 4 months after that Mall opened MTV done a live shoot from there Adam Curry even hosted Headbangers ball from that mall when MTV was there and I was there for the live shoot as well
That would have been way cool! I was a regular watcher of headbangers ball!
My sister went to that. I remember that!
The Bamboo Express is the only food court tenant that was there when it opened too!
This was my mall when I was a kid then we moved and I got the Chambersburg mall lol but compared to what this mall was in the 90s I think it's dead
going to this mall at night/evening is fucking godly, i have some photos on instagram
Still wish there was just a hint more music drifting in here or there.
It’s just like white marsh mall in Maryland. I live 15 mins from this mall
I've been to White Marsh through the years and York is way better.
Awesome video,no music on this walk through?Neon always needs a soundtrack.Keep up the great work
Roman Deida music is difficult because of copyright
Oh look at West Manchester mall they renamed it it's in West York
My home town I grew up going there
It's not dead, but it's definitely hurting. What was the name of the NC person you referenced?
I still don't get why the mall has two Verizon stores. Whatever though, I know a mall in Virginia that has TWO Macy's in it.
layed out just like johnstowns mall and its dead too!
What took you so long ace

There is a theme going on here ... arrows, triangles, "V"s ... compass designs.
i am going to Ghost town because of Halloween is coming!
just kidding!
I'm not a fan of the exposed industrial look for ceilings - it's cheap. I would suggest that with the large number of vacancies it's carrying this place is not on the way up, let's put it that way...

And I worked at the second level one, which I see from the directory is still there. Score!
It is quite
Use to be farm land where it is now located
