This was done as a response to Friday the 13th being so gory. A good friend of Carpenter's was directing this movie (he also directed 2002's Halloween Resurrection a shit movie) they called carpenter back in to direct some more gory scenes. You don't see his name in the credits because he didn't want to be involved in ANY sequel with Michael in it, as he finished the story with the first movie, and Hollywood greed made them make more. Only sequel he went ahead and made is Halloween III season of the witch which came out after this one in 83. He wanted to do a new Halloween movie every October, with the name of Halloween, but every year would be a new movie or series of short movies like an anthology. Every year just a spooky movie, no Myers ever showing up. He only wrote this movie because the studio kind of forced him as he needed them to make The Thing, and he didn't want to piss them off where they dropped that movie or gave it to another person. He said he had writer's block, couldn't think of anything, so one night he got some beer, got drunk and at like 2 in the morning wrote most of the script and made them siblings. To this day he has said one of the biggest mistakes he has made is making them siblings. As it's much scarier imagining this guy just picking a girl out of the blue to mess with her, as it could have been anyone he picked, your mom, a friend etc.
You’re right, Michael being a mysterious entity makes it more eerie. Next should be Halloween H20 (1998). In my head, that’s where the story ends. H1, H2, then H20.
Michael was supposed to remain the Boogieman but Carpenter got writers block and made them brother and sister. He always hated that. Depending on which version you watch there is a jump at the end. Jimmy is in the ambulance and sits up like Michael. Don't forget to watch the movie that inspired Halloween, Black Christmas but wait for Christmas to watch it and watch the original.

Back in the day when there were on three channels movies would eventually be shown on TV but they had to take out a bunch of stuff. I think in this case they stuck a scene back in to pad the TV run time if I recall right.
This is one of my favorites. To be 100% honest I really think Michael is just one pissed brother. I don't think he's a zombie or what ever. I think he's alive just trying to get revenge. Love your reactions handsome

@@mozyflicks Halloween 4 is considered the best sequel overall (this one is close). I have been to nearly every Halloween convention in Pasadena that comes around every 5 years and speaking to hundreds of fans this is the general consensus. H20 has it's fans and is not terrible, but it feels like a CW dawson's creek production.
They do variations of the theme music for most every sequel. The other sequels are a mixed bag, tho HALLOWEEN 3 is worth a look, just don't expect to see Michael Myers, they tell a whole new story.

You’re hilarious!! 🤣 The sequels after are pretty meh and ridiculous, but Halloween H20 is a lot of fun and picks up as a direct sequel after this one 20 years later. It’s actually really enjoyable and brings back Jamie Lee. The newer ones that started in 2018 treat the franchise as if nothing existed but the first movie. Also pretty fun to watch but you just kind of have to go, “yeah ok, just rewrite history then”. 🤣 Honestly Halloween has more timelines than a drag queen has wigs…

Okay, now you need to move on to Halloween H20 where Laurie is now older and working at a college and has a son (played by Josh Hartnett). As for this one...Good news! The cute guy that you, I, and Laurie likes actually does survive! In a deleted scene it shows him fully conscious being loaded into the ambulance that Laurie is in. OH BTW, I was in High School when this came to the theater and I remember being there opening day and there being a line all the way down the sidewalk and people standing out in the hot sun during the summer.

You forgot the Horror Movie rules (Scream): you can never have sex, drink or do drugs and never say I'll be right back! 😂 I like Rob Zombie's remakes because he put so much more backstory and complexity in them but there's no replacing Jamie Lee Curtis, the Scream Queen.
RZ movies were the highest tier of garbage. He REALLY took out the mystery of Myers by explaining damn near everything. A kid getting picked on LOLOLOL, Carpenter himself in an interview you can see on youtube has called it a steaming pile of shit. Some of the worst dialogue ever heard in both movies in a major motion picture.
@@mozyflicks About that, Debra Hill(who was Carpenter's GF at the time and was a BIG reason Halloween was made) and carpenter said they had no intention of inventing that old horror movie trope of people getting killed doing drugs or having sex. They said it was a coincidence it happened in the first Halloween. Others who made horror/slasher movies took that from Halloween, and ran with it.
You know, I highly recommend watching Halloween H20 which is directly 20 years after the events of this night. Halloween 4, 5 and 6 are alternative timelines and not really good movies in my opinion, but of course they are entertaining. H20 is from 1998 and it's really good. The head canon is the it ends the original Halloween series right there, and any other movies after it are just alternative timelines.

I seen in your other comment you are going to skip to H20, I would recommend Halloween 4. 4, 5, 6 are their own trilogy called thorn trilogy, but 5 is shit, 6 is not good, but it looks fantastic, has the strongest, most unstoppable Myers (well until 2021's Halloween kills). His nickname is The Shape, not the boogeyman. After Halloween 78 is over, in the credits they have him as Michael Myers AND The Shape. JLC is barely in this. She was doing another movie, and they had her wear a wig in all her scenes. Anyone would sound like a lunatic like Loomis after unloading a gun into someone they fall over 20 feet on to their back, and get up like nothing happened.
