    MOVIE: Ophelia (2018, Dir. Claire McCarthy)
    BASED on the book Ophelia, by Lisa Klein, a romance that reimagines Shakespeare's Hamlet.

    I like that they actually let her live in that one. It made her character more independent and therefore more reliable for us people from the 21. century. Also I felt as though it actually gave Hamlet‘s character more depth. In the original it always seemed to me as though fighting Laertes was the only option he had left after Ophelia‘s death. In this version there is another option, but he chooses his family‘s honor over a life in anonymity with her.

    I made the mistake of reading the book this was based on before actually reading Hamlet, and spent the whole of the actual play trying to find some sort of strength and cleverness in Ophelia. And could not. Because of course I couldn’t. Shakespeare wrote her as a woman of weak disposition.

      It wasn't uncommon for grown men to marry young brides back then though so I never really had a problem with Romeo and Juliet. I thought it was kinda senseless. But not a horrible play or offensive. Many royal men would be promised to young girls and wait until they came of age to ever marry or touch them ... but you also have to remember back then a man was considered a man once he was a teenager. Women were women once they bled. That could be age 12 to age 14 for women. Im glad I didn't have to live during that time but it wasn't seen as immoral or wrong. Just like it wasn't wrong to sell off your daughter for political advantage. The sons were to have titles where the women were always pawns. Decisions made for them as we were seen as property. . A chess piece to be used in a game of advancement in power or ascension to power.

      Also love works in mysterious ways. I don't think you can truly love someone until you know them but be infatuated with them or be lustful but that doesn't mean it isn't true just because it isn't something I've experienced. My great grandparents met and married the same week. Never divorced never fought and both claimed to be head over heels in love at the very first sight of each other. My great grandmother went to a party a month after the death of her first husband that she really didn't want to go to because she was heartbroken and devastated over her husband's death...but I'm glad she went because she said as she came down the steps to join the party she saw a handsome man who locked eyes with her and he says he saw her come down the steps and knew shed be his wife. Her devastation over her first husband went away pretty fast or she learned to accept it I guess when she fell in love with my poppop. Sadly though she later lost my poppop as well.. he found out he had prostate cancer and never told her because he didn't want her to worry or be sad or focus on that. He wanted to live his last days being treated the same as he always was by her. No one knew.. he must have suffered in silence because he showed not one outward sign until his death ... Anyway. . They swore they fell in love at first sight. And since we explore in this play the idea that reality and truth are not absolute but a matter of perspective and subjective depending on who is perceiving it. Who am I to say what is and is notpossible. .

    Hamlet was a confused young man that saw his life as a tragedy. Ophelia, no matter how she was presented as someone who could balance out Hamlet, cant actually handle his passion and desire for revenge. Hamlet knew that, and he drove her away. But Ophelia was weak, like most of the women in Shakespeare's works. She was driven into madness when the male figures in her life started disappearing. So yeah, although I liked the idea of presenting Ophelia's side of the story, I prefer to explore the complexity of Hamlet's character more.

    I have a question. How do males and females bond with each other? I don't see how men and women can bond (especially romantically) with each other. Men and women think very differently from each other.
    Women can build incredible friendships and become very close to each other in a way men can't bond, and science shows that women can bond very well with each other. Generally, women are even more social than men are. After something bad happens, a woman quickly rushes to talk to all of her female friends to get support, whereas a man can isolate himself and grief alone.
    Women tend to be more emotionally intelligent, more caring, more empathic, more compassionate, more affectionate, more loyal, more nurturing, more understanding, more sympathetic, more sensitive, more kind-hearted, more peaceful, more calmer, more gentle, more expressive, more intuitive, and more outward than men are, and thus bond more with other women in a special way that they can’t with men. Men, on the other hand, are not that emotional, and thus can’t bond with other men in a special way. Women regulate emotion better.
    Women are more comfortable being around with other women than they are with men. They have a type of bond that usually men with women won’t really have, or with men and men. Also, girls that are friends touch each other in ways that guys just don’t.

      I am straight and I am asking this to myself too lol. But in the end even though I have love for my best friends, it's definitely different than the love I feel for my boyfriends.

    • @icysnow57cold64
      @icysnow57cold64 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mlkh8073 Women have an extremely strong connection with other women. It's so strong that two women who first meet each other seem to have some connection before even knowing anything about each other. It's not like that for men on the other hand. It's impossible for a man and woman to have a connection with each other.
      It seems that men and women are not meant to be together. It seems impossible for a man and woman to fall in love with each other and form a strong bond together.
