When my cat was alive, he was the exact opposite of the cat stereotype. He was needy, super affectionate, and loyal. He once chased a dog 4 times his size to protect me. Miss him so much.

Used to be a dog person but we recently adopted a cat and I couldn’t have been more wrong about them. He’s cuddly, follows us all over the place, loves to play and has already learned a few tricks.

Cats are cats. Don’t expect dog behaviour from them.
If you want a constant companion who loves and protects you. Get a dog.
If you want a housemate who comes and goes and requires minimal effort. Get a cat.
Dogs are pets. They require a lot of time and effort. If you’re not gonna be home most of the day. You’re not fit to get a dog.
Cats are like houseplants. They’ll make you feel less lonely, but don’t require as much effort as a dog. If you’re going to be out of the house a lot (work, travel etc) then a cat is better suited for you.

I know it's a joke but majority of cats I've know are extremely loyal to their owners. I've been in some homes and they would not approach me they stuck by their owners side. I remember befriending a stray a few years back and he was like my main little buddy, if I snapped my fingers he'd come running out the bushes, he eventually brought me "food" (dead squirrels/rats/birds) nice gesture, and he was super protective.
People who think cats aren't loyal or don't show emotions have never owned a cat or only got their cat knowledge through memes.
The attitude part is spot on though.
Ikr, they're much fearless than people think, they attack and stand their ground against animal ranging from mouse, chicken, goose, fox, bobcat, coyote, seal, even.. crocodile, tiger, bear, sometimes hippo and elephant! (There are video of it)

Earning a cats loyalty is differently hard. After achieving that, my cat just cuddles up to me and lick's my arm for about 30 minutes to show her affection and love towards me.
YES... it can't just be given or expected like a dog does. it's kind of like making a new friend, you gotta spend time with them and show them you care.

It's extremely unfair and downright wrong to try and compare a cat with a dog in terms of loyalty, especially because there is not quantitative measurement for "loyalty."

The reason why people hate cats is that they have misconceptions on dogs which are actually in dogs' favor.
Dogs have been stereotyped.
People's beliefs towards dogs are streotypical and so is their likelyhood towards them.
People say Dogs save people in difficult situations but Cats don't. About that people saving thing: Dogs are stronger, bigger, louder and sometimes faster than cats so it's much easier for dogs than cats to save somebody.
And there have MANY cases where cats saved people too even after being smaller in size but by using their intelligence and bravery.
*I bet people who say bad things for cats are those who have never even been with a cat before.*
And people say dogs are like guards or protectors but cats are not. For this stereotype, I would just say: Pets are meant to be your friends or family, not workers or servants or slaves whom you feed in return.
