10:07 I cried so much seeing Hoshoryu cry. He’s usually so stoic. It was so refreshing to see him break down just a little bit. Much deserved. What a champion you are.
I've been watching him since he was in Makushita and you could see he had something special. I'm happy for him and excited to see how powerful he can become!!
Agree, he is the first rikishi I watched every professional bout of. When I heard asashoryu's nephew turned pro I just had to follow him from the very beginning in division 6. You could already see there that he will go very far. From the active rikishi is he by favorite.
@@Fuu_Sho Same here man! When I heard Asashoryu's nephew was born I just had to follow every move he made in life. I was there for his first bite of solid food, first steps he took, fist word etc. Even saw his first fight in pre-school, and boy could you tell he had inherited the champion gene!
Wow! His technique is SO solid. It's very refreshing to see a Rikishi not only use brute force and muscle, but textbook maneuvers as well. That was a treat.
Agreed! Apparently he did jujitsu before sumo. It’s amazing to see what a well rounded rikishi he is because of it. You never know what he’s going to do. That Asanoyama is a great example, even seeing it again for the second time in this video it caught me off guard.

Congrats to Hoshoryu on the win and promotion to Ozeki! He's been a long time favorite of mine. I love his intensity and drive. You can tell that he puts everything into each match. It was moving to see his emotions come out after the playoff victory. Very strong fighting spirit. I hope he will continue onto many championships and go on a Yokozuna run in 2024!
@@bp6475 Even though I am a big Hakuho fan, what you said is true. Arguably a bit of luck and good fortune contributed to the G.O.A.T.'s incredible winning stats.

What a tournament for Hoshoryu! All his bouts were super exciting. His wins were super convincing, and he won against big names. Well deserved promotion! I hope we can see him go even further!
May I suggest an ongoing series about sumo's various outliers? Wrestlers that were either notable for their sheer size, or wrestlers that went against the traditional conventions of what makes a successful rikishi and how they overcame said obstacles. Absolute units like Konishiki who fought their way to ozeki and the challenges he faced being the first foreigner to achieve the rank, or smaller rikishi like Takanoyama (who got me into sumo) or more recently Enho. Sumo is a sport rooted in such tradition and heritage with such an emphasis being put on stringent uniform training, which makes it all the more intriguing when outliers appear. It would be neat to see them highlighted in some way.
Как только Хошорю появился в высшем дивизионе, я сказал, что это будущий Великий Чемпион!!! Сегодня ему нет равных по технике и по красоте ведения борьбы, желаю дальнейших успехов!!!
Obviously, he has genes that will help him to win - He is related to Asashoryu whose father is a famous Mongolian wrestler - Outstanding Elephant - his title.
EverEver since his match against... (I forget, lol) whoever last year where he PULLED HIS ARM AWAY from rocketing toward the ground, hitting his face on the GD dohyo. Hoshoryu is a great rikishi and deserves to win. However, on the first day he and Tobizaru were too close and if the benefit of doubt was given, it should had been given to both. Just like everything in Sumo, people tend to get into it very very young, and the gyojis join and are part of a stable just the same as the wrestlers and are ranked. Foreigners move to Japan to be sumo wrestlers, but I don't think many are interested in moving to Japan at an early age and starting from the bottom to be a gyoji, nor do people get scouted by coaches to become gyoji either. I don't really think there is much appeal in moving to Japan as a teenager to try to be a gyoji, there also isn't that many of them. Stables have an average of one gyoji, some have a couple and some have none.
