This is an awesome video. I'm particularly interested in LORAM "trains", and your presentation is "tops"...especially the action photographed from lineside. Having watched and photographed LORAM operations myself, the audio "portion" of your video is excellent...it absolutely captures the experience as it really is. Great job all the way around. I live on Long Island (NY), and an "ancient" LORAM ballast cleaner (BC8) was employed this past summer to carve-out trenches along the right-of-way for tie replacement (wood-to-concrete). This old machine -- powered by two "loud-'n-proud high-rev" Detroit Diesel engines -- is a sight to behold. Thanks for a great presentation. You got my "thumbs up" 👍

Thanks Railroad Productions. Don’t worry, it will be on the line for a few more days, it’s in the CP 22 siding now.

The ones I’ve seen lift up the rail and sleepers in a long curve and run something like a chainsaw under the sleepers scooping up the ballast and then cleaning it in the same way. In the suburbs a second train on the second track pulls open top wagons to catch the waste dirt instead of dumping it on the side.

Are new rocks put down to replace the smaller ones that were removed?

They often will replace the ballast that was removed, sometimes not removing a lot of ballast just debris and dirt, but sometimes do pour new ballast down later.

Seems like a lot of ballast is being discarded???
