Avatara of Lord Krishna - Talk in English by Swami Aparajitananda, Chinmaya Mission Chicago
Hari Om!
In Swamiji's enlightening discourse, he delves into the profound concept of avatars, shedding light on their significance as per the scriptures and dispelling doubts regarding their nature. He starts by elucidating the fundamental disparities between the birth of individual souls (jivā) and the divine incarnation (avatar) of the Supreme Being (Paramātmā). These disparities encompass the reasons for birth (Kāraṇa bhed), the nature of birth (svarupa bhed), and the purpose of birth (ūdeśa bhed).
Swamiji proceeds to expound upon the various types of avatars assumed by Bhagvan:
1. Pūrṇa avatar - exemplified by Lord Kṛṣṇā and Lord Rama.
2. Aṃś avatar - illustrated by Veda Vyasa.
3. Āveś avatar - as witnessed in the Narasimha avatar.
4. Nitya avatar - embodied by great sages and saints.
5. Archa avatar - manifested in deities within temples.
Despite Lord Kṛṣṇā being a Pūrṇa avatar, many failed to recognize His divine nature during His earthly sojourn. Swamiji elucidates this through Bhiṣma Pitamah's glorification of Lord Kṛṣṇā in the Mahabharata, wherein he composed the Viṣṇusahasranāma, extolling the Lord.
Through captivating anecdotes from Lord Kṛṣṇā's life, Swamiji acquaints us with the myriad promises made by the Lord to His devotees. These assurances serve to bolster the faith of aspirants on the spiritual path, such as:
1. "I am a servant of my devotees" (aham bhakta parādhin).
2. Bhagavāna prioritizes intentions over actions.
3. The Lord breaks His own vows to honor His devotee's promises.
4. He transcends cosmic laws for His devotees.
5. "My devotee never perishes" (na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśhyati).
6. "I carry what my devotee lacks and preserve what they have" (yoga-kṣhemaṁ vahāmyaham).
Swamiji underscores the essence of surrender to the Lord, elucidating through stories from the Mahabharata how this concept is elucidated.
Addressing concerns about the era one is born into, Swamiji refers to verses from the Bhagavad Gītā, assuring that spiritual attainment transcends temporal considerations.
Lord Kṛṣṇā's life exemplifies the celebration of existence amidst adversities, characterized by unwavering joy and peace. His profound detachment serves as a beacon for spiritual seekers, illuminating the path to follow.
Ultimately, Swamiji emphasizes that the purpose of Lord Kṛṣṇā's avatar is to guide humanity on the path of spirituality, ensuring that devotees are never alone on their journey.

Difference between avatara of Iswara and birth of an ordinary being:
1) Karanabheda: Difference with respect to cause.
2) Svaroopabheda: Difference with respect to nature. Mayapati Vs Mayadasa.
3) Uddeshabheda: Difference with respect to purpose.
Important points:
A) Avidya leads to Kama and karma. Ignorance leads to worldly desires and worldly karma.
B) There is a difference between falling into well and descending into well.
C) Difference between thief and President of a nation: Both are surrounded by police. But thief is controlled by police, President controls the police.
D) Types of Avatara:
I) Poornavatara (Krishna, Rama)
2) Amshavatara or Kalavatara (Vedavyasa)
3) Aveshaavatara (unplanned - Narasimha)
4) Nityavatara (Sages)
5) Archyavatara (Deities)
Pranam swamiji,
It seems that all Avataras are denominations for a common self in Chara and Achara. Ít is Humans who are responsible for establishing total trust culture on this mrutyu loka. It is failure of humankind to establish total trust culture that Avataras are coming down to such a low level to show what the living is.
