Excellent video, exactly the technical information I was looking for regarding the scotty. Probably will be my choice for my pro angler as well. The crap hobie puts out for the price is just revolting by comparison. Thanks for posting!
I've been using rams for a year, biggest problem is if you fish off the left side the holder will loosen as the threads loosen that direction! Does Scotty have the same problem. Second I fish in a hot climate and I've had 2 ram balls break at the stud, not a lot off fun with your rod attached to the rod holder so I'm now attaching rods directly to the yak.
Rand... I have not had that problem with Scotty so far. At this point, I would not ever go back to Ram. However, I am not completely close minded about other rod holders.
I had a ram ball break too. They replaced it but still that should not happen. I do not like using the tracks either. At some point I am going to do the H-rail upgrade and then I will attach the rod holders them instead.
Regarding the scotty I have just purchased second hand prowler ultra 4.7 that has a star port insert on each side of the seat. Would this get there or do I need an extension mount?
Hey... thanks for watching. As far as the extension is concerned that is really a personal decision for you as to whether you need to elevate your rod holder. I am not familiar with that kayak and also the length of the rod butt will also help you to decide... wish I could have helped you more with your answer. Suggest buying an extension and see how it looks. Then return if you dont like it.
Nice review. RAM Mounts has come out with the RAM HD. It's heavy duty and has a spline post connection. There's also a Dual T-Bolt spline connection at the base with the ability to connect to a track or deck mount. The RAM Ball is great for light trolling or holding a fishing rod. The big benefit is the ball's full articulation. A Spline Post connection will always be a better solution for heavier torque fish strikes www.rammount.com/part/RAP-433-421
I cannot speak from personal experience since I never used Scotty's ball mount. However, ANY ball mount will have the ability to slip which I do not like.
Ya that's my issue too I plan on using a 12 - 16 oz lead ball on the end of my short rod and I don't think it will hold up. I even wrote Scotty mounts company and the reply was not favorable so I guess I will have to come up with some hack DIY job. I'll figure something out after all its just a kayak the fish don't care what they get caught with...
I will be trolling with a 1 pound ball on the same line I use the lure on at 20 to 30 ft I don't think any of the long arm mounts will hold up...OH ya also let me clarify I want to use the ball mount system, so I don't see this working.
Check out the RAM Rod HD. It should be out on the market soon. Spline Post is the better way to go for trolling for larger fish- comes with a double track mount or works with a spline base. The RAM ball works great as a rod holder and for trolling for smaller fish. www.rammount.com/part/RAP-433-421
This is the rod holder that I chose after my review. amzn.to/2vr1kD3 If you like the video, I would appreciate you subscribing to the channel... thank you!
See the problem I have with your review with you never went over that big fat locking twist knob system on the Scotty how does it work and how does it hold the rod holder into it how does it lock I have one and I have no fucking clue how it works it no matter what I do you can’t get the damn thing to lock the rod holder into it I can pull it out at any time that big plastic twisty with the clipDoes absolutely nothing change my mind.
I agree. i have the same problem with getting the adapter to lock the rod holder. i think the problem is the stem. I feel the stem is too short and not causing a locking action. i can't find any videos explaining if this is the problem.

Great review. Saved me money buying the wrong ones for my Hobie Outback
glad it helped you... that is what the videos are for
Any way you could teach me the details regarding the Scotty power lock set up you have with the extensions? Maybe a tutorial on in...
Ty for your video. I was looking for this and i go for the powerlock. It is also good for securing the rod to catch big catfish.
Get a bicycle inner tube , cut about 1 inch section like a rubber band , these slip over ball, glue with some rubber cement , then grips fantastically
great idea
Great video and great tips...it has made my decision a little easier on what to purchase..appreciate that!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the follow up comment. This is exactly the kind of feedback I hoped I would get.
How can i get that scotty rod holder onto the H-rail?
There are adapters you can buy
Thanks for the video... How do you feel about a Scotty Ball Mount System do you think its better than the one you have ?

you dont need a hack DIY job. Just get the scotty mounts that you see in my video. They LOCK and dont slip

Just so everyone knows, the Scotty rod holder doesn't come with the extension. That cost's like 20 bucks more.
Thanks for watching.
