This is just my personal opinion but I think they portray Yeonjin as this good and loving mom is to make it even more like she is a real person not just a straight up villain that commits mass murder. It's like a reminder to us that people like Yeonjin exist around us but we probably didn't even realize it due to their facade. Maybe it is also a message that indicates something like - Just because a criminal is nice to you or her/his families doesn't mean he/she is a nice person overall.
I think so! But I’ve also heard that the actual writer of the show deliberately didn’t let Yeonjin have ANY redeeming qualities to ensure that no one pities her, since no matter what, nothing can justify her crimes. She really wanted us to hate her, so even I wonder why she still portrayed her as a good mom.
I feel like in some ways yeonjin did care about Ye-seol but at the same time she was neglectful towards her especially with her being color blind. Instead of trying to actually help her deal with it she kept trying to hide it. Because she didn't want her husband to find out Ye-seol wasn't his. Also I think the show was trying to show that when they put the scenes with Ye-seol throwing her computer in the tub because she couldn't tell the colors of the apples and the scene when she was atthe cross walk. BecauseJea-jun is also color blind but it did show that he had specific contact lens to help with his colorblind meanwhile Ye-seol wasn't getting help at all.
The last scene was so powerful and the director made a huge impact and perfectly executed the message. It captured the pain and anger Moon Dong Eun went through to justify her revenge. We only saw her scars when she was young but not when she was a grown up, her showing her entire body with full of scars was heartbreaking. And that was captured perfectly.
Yeon loves her daughter that is clear, but is she a good mother? No! that is also crystal clear, the real father too, the color blind eye guy.
Please watch The Good Bad Mother and 18 Again. They have the doctor (Lee DoHyun) in them, and they're both two of his best works, among others.
P.S. 18 Again is the kdrama version of the Zac Efron movie 17 Again, but more deep.

another really good kdrama is on Hulu, Revenge of others. i heard about it and watched it and it's pretty interesting. not as good as The Glory but still a good watch

Definitely open to it! My mum used to watch a lot of the Chinese daytime soap operas that they showed on Thai television at the time. I’m sure they’ve got a lot of really good ones now though!
