The NBA Bubble and why people HATE on it | RANT included

  • The NBA Bubble was by far and away the weirdest time in NBA history. Nearly 3 years later it continues to prove divisive and questionable to many. Is the NBA Bubble championship legitimate OR is it a great big phony? If you ask Lebron James it "was one of the hardest championships in NBA history". I don't agree with that but I do believe that it is due to him primarily why many see it as fraudulent. Listen to me explain and lift yourselves.

Well, Russell played with 6 HOFs in his team where was only 15 teams, u needed to win just 2 play-off series to get a championship. And Boston's only real problem was Wilt and nobody else. How many championships Boston won since Russell retired? I guess even Detroit pistons won more than Boston. This is why u can't compare his rings to the rings of post-russell era. Let alone than what kind of accolades Russell had besides His championships?
P.S. Bill Russell is not even a top 10 player anymore. There were much more players more talented and better than Russell has ever been with more accolades and who managed to win rings with less help and more competitive eras (but u can't say it cuz old heads gonna be angry at u, probably some of them even did not see him play)

I’m not referring to all TH-camrs, but to substantial portions of their comment sections, and the vast majority of Reddit commenters. They refer to skaters by their initials or nicknames, use abbreviations for complex technical jargon, and when somebody asks what it means, they tell you to educate yourself. They also try to declare as fact that skater A is sooo artistic, and skater B is simply not artistic and therefore shouldn’t get the scores that they get. Any counter argument gets shouted down. What makes it even more disappointing is this is the one that tied them with Boston for the most all time. Like you stated in your video too many factors were different from other NBA playoffs. This just seemed like the NBA had the tournament as a way to recover loss of revenue but at the end of the day it's a business.

Which seemed to match the eye test, and makes it less surprising why the ratings were so low as well. Nobody was interested in watching players that didn't want to be there. The fan almost always knows best, in aggregate, and the fans knew it was a complete waste of time, so much so that even with almost no other options, they chose not to watch.

100% agree regarding the organisation and logistics and management of the bubble. You voiced my words. I couldn't help thinking at the time, ooh f&CK, Adam Silver you're going to be popular, you weren't supposed to demonstrate how efficient and professional we actually can be, nobody is supposed to know that we are capable and can with drama and excuses get shit relatively easily. Jeez Adam, you really f&cked us all on that one, now people are going to expect government and civil services to operate as effectively. (Thankfully, people somehow managed to forget about that side of things or didn't notice. So it didn't catch on. - the curse of being to good - no one realised there was no drama - I guess that's what makes it forgettable),
I love that the Lakers won, I love it that Dwight Howard, and JaVale McGee got their rings. The youngsters Kuzma and Schroeder, did their bit well and Im glad they won a ring. I love the fact that Gianni's younger brother Kostas was also part of this team, which means he was an NBA Champion before his brother..
But the story I love the most is the one, where a player was brought up from the G-league, came off the bench in the regular season, to be in the starting lineup in the final championship game, he is all heart, does everything asked of him, and more, especially at crucial times, He is a coach's dream player from the point of being a hard worker, eager to learn, a great team player, great attitude, delivers every time, gutsy, underrated, underestimated,, humble and loves the game. Started the season in the G-league & ended it a NBA Champion, and has a ring., just for this player alone I'm thrilled the Lakers won, (the rest are the cherries on top).
And let us not forget Luca, it may only have been 7 games, but goddamn he made them exciting and great basketball to watch.

COVID or not, I think the majority of things that happened would’ve happen regardless. The Lakers were the number 1 seed, so they were projecting to at least make it to the finals anyways. The Clippers have a horrible history choking, so that would’ve happened too. The other usual suspects at the time, the 76ers, Celtics, Jazz and the Rockets were gonna choke at some point too. The Heat broke out that season and they’ve proven themselves later on that even without the bubble, they can get themselves to the finals. A lotta criticisms of the bubble I think is ppl are using “what-if” scenarios and taking it to heart when it comes to it.

2 things to say about bubble: basketballwise, and politicowise
basketballwise: suspect at times, and no fans i the stands was disheartening, but there were some legitimately entertaining series. Nuggets coming back from two 3-1 deficits and clippers hucksters on TV losing their **** after the collapse was great, we had bubble murray vs. bubble mitchel, bam adebayo looking like young dwight howard...
and lakers deserved it. AD legitimately cooked (has never played that well against jokic again), and they were a well-built defensive team with the potential for more chips (which they utterly destroyed in the westbrick trade, which itself was comedy gold... KCP rubbing that second ring in all their faces by now)
politicowise: i mean top comment kind of says it: multimillionaires wearing 'freedom' and equality' on their jerseys and pasting the names of real people who got killed by the police on their signature shoes made in an asian sweatshop by some 8 year old kid...
like, kind of a kaepernick situation: lot of players hearts' was at least partly in the right place , a lot of them remember at least a little what it's like to grow up poor and black in america (at least when they're not complaining about the lack of a private chef...) but then it just boils down to another big nike ad (if we're being kind).
i'd call it something more like war profiteering
it was also a real 'panem et circensis' moment for the bigwigs, and not just the NBA execs: as in 'we need a circus show to distract the starving masses from the fact that they're starving'. like, i think at one point the players association pitched the idea of just not playing as a kind of 'protest' after minneapolis (again, multimillionaire going on strike doesn't quite have the same ring to it as that 8-year old asian kid doing it), but, jokes aside, i heard this kind of got serious: didn't obama himself have to call them up at one point to tell them 'put on your equality shorts and keep dancing b*****?'
barry and comish kind of reminded me of the fat alien from space jam with that move... you know, the one voiced by danny devito?

I believe if any team with no previous championships won that ring (Clippers, Nuggets, etc) then people wouldn’t respect it either. People would argue that they would have to win again to believe it. It also doesn’t help that both of the finals teams(lakers, heat) were first round exit the following year. Then the Lakers didn’t make the play in the year after.

I see it as: the lakers were one of the best teams before The Bubble, all the teams in the bubble played under the same conditions, (more fair than normal NBA playing conditions,) and the best team, (that most who watched that season knew all year was the best team,) won the chip. What is the surprise about that? Halfway through the season, it was somewhat obvious that the Lakers looked like the best team in the league and would beat any team that would come out of the east (barring injury.) The reason that the finals sucked is that the Heat got to the finals in unlikely, although possible, fashion and were the clear underdog vs the Lakers. So the Lakers got hate for beating an inferior team. Same deal with the Warriors and Celtics in 2022 and the Nuggets and the Heat in 2023. We all knew who would win those series.

I dismiss bubble because conditions are not the same. Your regular season doesnt even matter because you have no home-court advantage, no fans, some of the players didnt wanted to show up, some didnt wanted to try or where affected by conditions etc. Its not the same as other seasons. LeBron had an easier time, had 4 months to relax, then be all fit and healthy and watch AD(real MVP btw) carrying him there. And then talk how he won it in most difficult way even though he had most easiest time. I mean, as an avid fan of football(European, not American handegg) you can say that for CL who was played on neutral court after 1/8 Finals. Instead of 2 games(one at home and one away), they had 1 game at neutral court in Portugal. But nobody dismisses Bayern Munich because they stomped their 1/8 Finals opponents, in 1/4 they dismantled one of the best teams in Europe with Messi there 8-2(for football that is an insane score) and Finals in CL was always played 1 game at neutral court. So, nobody can doubt who was the best team out there that year. For Lakers you can doubt. Would they have won it if it was no 4 months rest? They would have home court advantage but would they have won it if they had to travel? Had fans there? Maybe. But that conditions would forever leave doubt there.

why? except for heat injuries, they beat everybody easily in the same condition with the same advantages and disadvantages that any other team, in fact they lost homecourt advantage for all the series, where is the asterisk? if it was so easy why didn't any other team won it, specially the clippers the only year they have been healthy in the playoffs.

Ive been saying all along the bubble championship was fraudulent. LJ is far too lazy and incompetent to actually lead a team to a championship. He's no different the KD. LJ can only win is when he stacks players in his favor. He makes excuses when the lakers did make the playoffs at one point and when they did make they were exited quickly. Last season they were swept by D Denver again excuses. Yes i do agree hes a remarkable talent but an MJ nor Kobe, Magic, Bird hes not a will never be.

Even if you do count it it’s still the most easiest ring of all time no fans no traveling no home-court advantage not to mention they already travel and stay in hotels half of the season so it’s not like there’s something uncommon occurring they go on road trips for at least 2 to 3 weeks so an extended road trip is basically all it was

No homecourt advantage is a disadvantage if you're a high seeded team, The Bucks and Clippers and Celtics lost to lower seeded teams playing on a neutral court helps the underdogs and hurts the the top teams. The Lakers were the only top five seed to make the finals.

I am still waiting to see Lebron make a bucket without (1) traveling, or (2) committing an offensive foul.
