The curry you asked is baby jackfruit curry called polos ambul in Sinhalese. It’s pretty amazing how you handle Sri Lankan food eating use your hands. Excellent
The green coloured thing is called Mallum it's made out of green leaves When u eat u normally mix with one or two curries together & eat from a side of the plate dear not from the middle..

This is a regular lunch. 3or 4 vegetables with egg, chicken or fish . For set menue, you can always ask extra portions with set menue, and pay extra. You probably ate baby Jack cooked. That's why you mistook it for chicken, that's a local delicacy. You should mix bit of everything for all mouths. That's how the locals eat. Do not mix whole plate together. Always you can drink tap water straight from the tap.proveded it's from the main water supply line. Every cities water supply is by the government. So no worries. Waist of money for bottle water.🤣 Keep enjoying and exploring . Love from Srilanka
That particular vegetable is pollos(baby jack fruit) ..it's almost like chicken... And when you eat rice and curry, mix well all the curries with the rice at the same time.....(not separately)
All the vegetables and meat, eggs are added together and then mixed well with rice, you can eat a mouthful of delicious rice and a mouthful of rice. When you eat kama, you don't eat all over the place. You keep rice and various types of rice together. Like a person in Kava Veni. So enjoy Sri Lanka 🤩
Well for someone that has never eaten Sri Lankan food I can say you're doing pretty good so don't worry you're eating it just right. That really looks delicious food..
@@yvesthesleeve main difference from Indian food is the use coconut milk but Indians use cow milk and spices bit different. Malaysian food I think more of sources based , so sri Lankan food, I would say more natural
Up until 500 years ago, there was a natural land bridge between India and Sri Lanka, that was washed away by a typhoon. It's called the Adam's bridge or Rama bridge. It was walkable by foot until the 1500s. The 2 lands are only 48 km apart. The waters there are an average only one meter deep. So one can wade across to India. It's really fascinating geography.
I love all your videos, and the way you present them..very beautiful and genuine… all the food looks really yummy, but with all these rice and starchy food, make sure you give it a nice chew before you swallow it..
Wonderful Sri Lankan lunch....food looks yum yum yum and healthy too. Great that you like and enjoy it. From your video, l can see the Sri Lankans are out and about. It doesn't seem that there's a crisis there. Anyway, wonderful to know you are already liking the place....👍👍👏 Cheers, Mr Moonshine.
The one and only crisis was Sri Lanka’s inability to import foreign goods including essential fuel to generate electricity, for cooking (gas) and for vehicles (petrol). Lack of bare necessities due to near sighted corrupted politicians of the past and present angered the general public against the government of the ruling party who took to streets. The protesters were encouraged by some of the same corrupted politicians that did not belong to the ruling party and NGOs that wanted a regime change. That created chaos in the country which created a ‘hay day’ for the foreign media to exaggerate on public unrest and hardships in day to day life mainly experienced by the middle class city dwellers. Government and privately owned properties were destroyed by arson, goods stolen by the protesters. Ruling president was misled by his economists and was short sighted. He adamantly made decisions and implemented unsustainable laws and was blamed for failure and all the past and present problems. He was ousted. To avoid anarchy an opposition party president and a multi party interim government was established which is barely holding on with foreign aid mainly to import fuel, medicine and other locally non available essential goods. Due to Sri Lanka’s rich soil and year round desirable climate it is unlikely that people will die from starvation as is being broadcast by world media probably to discourage tourists. People still get along with what they have as you can see from your videos.
I think there is a cooked version of tender jackfruit similar to the meat you have, in Sri Lanka we call this "Polos". Enjoy colorful and delicious Sri Lankan cuisine
The vegetable might be unripe jackfruit. Normally its a replacement for meat since its has a meaty texture. U will find it quite commonly cooked in Sri Lanka.
