I don't think that most people realize how important this lesson is. If I were a high school or college music teacher, this would be a mandatory lesson. You are a superb teacher.

This is million dollar lesson for a jazz introduction. Master this song like that even if it takes you a few years... then you can go into jazz guitar further.
Hi Jens Just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed this lesson. My understanding of jazz isn’t advanced therefore when I find a lesson that suits my needs I spend many many weeks analysing the detail and learning the lesson. I find I progress better if I fully understand everything before moving on. I have spent many weeks already on this lesson and will spend many weeks more. I have built backing tracks on GarageBand and then play arpeggios over the top, I love the sound. Yet so much more to learn before I move on. I find this true of all your videos, there is so much information and therefore so much enjoyment but I can’t keep up with all your videos therefore I select the ones that seem to fit where I am at the moment and study them. Thanks very much, so much of my understanding of jazz has come from your tuition.
I love how you connect the melody and the harmony to the chords. As I said in a previous comment, you have opened my eyes to a whole new world. Your lessons are amazing. Thank you so much!
This instruction is so helpful. Beginning with selection of a key, through these chord changes, in a tune that all guitarists should know - it's just beyond anything else for jazz guitarists available on the Internet. Jens: You are helping guitarists everywhere. Thank you!
Jens, what a way to begin my Sunday morning, I saved this video awhile back, but until today I had a chance to check it out. Thanks, so well explained, like everything that you teach.
I've finally challenged myself to do this arpeggio connection exercise! It is bloody difficult, but it is proving to be the master key that you say it is (not that I doubted you). Really great way to really learn the fretboard.
Thank you very much Jens!! You helped me to understand the importance of arpeggios for improvisation. I love Jazz but I'm a beginner even if I know the basics of harmony. These lessons are pure gold for me. Again thank you!!
thank you very much for this, im a rock n roll guy, i learned 1 or 2 jazz songs....i go to Japan, i met a great jazz piano player, we become friends..she wants to play with me, she said she loves to play this song, ive never heard it before..so i researched it, i found the chords in this key, wanted to learn to solo over it when i play with her.....this lesson is so awesome ! and will help me so much, GREAT LESSON ! wish me luck..keep on rockin, or should say, keep on jazzin my brother in music...MICHAEL
Thank you Jens, I had my first guitar lesson (after 30 years of playing!) yesterday and my teacher suggested exactly the same thing as you do here - connecting arpeggios together and created something musical. Wish I knew this stuff 30 years ago... :)
+Stefan McNamara That's great Stefan! Good luck with the jazz journey! It's very true that I can't take credit for coming up with improvising with arpeggios 😊
i am a new subscriber and this is the first video i chose to do of Jens Larsen and not only does he have it available in tab there is a labrynth of learning here where as a metal playing guitarist there is no telling where i will end up. I have taken lessons from over 5 instructors over a 30 years and i am ready to enjoy the journey but it takes practice, practice, practice :)
Jens, I have said before and will say again that you have wonderful teaching, improvising and performance skills. You also are very kind to share these with TH-cam folk like me and many others. I wish you all the best in your future. Regards, David
This video pulled a lot together from some of your previous lessons and made them very clear. Really good. Thanks again for all of this fantastic instruction. One thing I had to sort of bring out by watching again was that the target note is on the new chord in each case. That didn't become obvious to me until I watched this video.
What a timely lesson this is for me. I have been struggling through some challenging chord arpeggio exercises and this is so much more clear and useful. And a song I have already played dozens of times on gigs and not done justice to the solo.( playing by ear at the time...) Thanks Jens.
Jens! That second exercise of connecting the arpeggios (nearest note) just blew me away. OMG! I get it now. A light bulb just went on over my head. That's it. You just took me to the next level of improvising. THANK YOU!
Thank you for teaching these jazz lessons. I’m a beginner guitar player and really love the sound of your music. It is awesome to be able to learn from you !
Thanks for a terrific lesson Jens. I’m just starting to learn about playing jazz and this is going to help me immensely. I’ve been practicing arpeggios but did not know how to start using them. Your lesson gives me a great starting point. Cheers!

Thank you for a great lesson, Jens. Your breakdowns of the arpeggios, especially how you're not always starting from the root, have really helped me to open up my playing. Cheers ;)
The poem analogy says it all for me, as a pretty average blues rock player I struggle with sounding jazzy but this advice of breaking it down into tiny flexibly useable nuggets is really helpful. Thanks!
Great tip about resolving to the 3rd or 5th. I always hear people say to use the guide tones (3, 7), but resolving to the 7th often sounds weak. Even as a piano player there's still lots of great stuff in these videos. Thanks!
Thank you Lucas! I think it's weird that people never talk about the 7th being a somewhat weak target note. It's great that you as a piano player checked it out! Did you check out more of my videos? (I am just curious...)
That's very cool! Thanks for letting me know! If you want to help me then you can share one of my videos that you like and help me spread the word with your recommendation 😊
Great lesson Jens! I'm a new subscriber and enjoy the lessons immensely. You present in a clear and concise way making the material easier to digest. Thank you! Definitely the best TH-cam instructor!
1 thing I found difficult when I began to study jazz was the overwhelming amount of options chords voicing etc you have helped make that struggle a lot simpler. Thx
