I remember this mission being a pain with Nod having the Obelisks and only one way into their base. I always used a "blackout" method by taking out the stupidly-placed power plants on the edges. Due to the Obelisk's high power cost, it would always shut off the power with one or two power plants going down. Had a large force to deal with the HUGE wave of aggro'd enemies. Overall a fun mission (somewhat lol).
This is still a hard mission! Had to restart it five times and even after got my start rolling I had to constantly load as I took one wrong step, or misplaced a building, or lost too many units! Really annoying mission as it doesn't give you much and the Nod forces are pretty aggressive fast.
28:02 Phil was brave, I will give him that, but trying to destroy a M1 Abrams with a pistol is foolish! 😂 That mission used give us headaches back when we were kids (around 10 to 12 years old)! We tried to establish a base in left corner in between the turrets and close to the western Tiberium field, but those turrets and the flame tank were a pain! We tried to use sand bags and use the glitch to buy time until we could repulse the constant attacks, but we eventually would run out of Tiberium and be screwed. The eastern spot is so much better, but you've got to get those guard towers and a few medium tanks fast because the AI doesn't waste time before attacking with flamers and flame tanks. It's still pretty tough and you don't have all that much Tiberium on this map.
Tiberian Dawn on hard is really something, this sandbag strat works every time. You're execution must be flawless if you want to beat mission the intended way (which sometimes doesn't even work).
That tank at the start always seems to do one of two things when I send my grenadiers after it. Either it runs away (as in this video), or it constantly tries to run them over. Does anyone know what sets it off in one mode over the other?
I think that it all depends the distance between your unit and the tank. If you are far enough, the tank will move randomly to avoid the grenades and if the tank is close enough, it will try to run you over.
Back then in 1995, the game was really hard for a RTS and very unbalanced. With the remastered version, they added the easy and hard difficulty but they didn't tweak the game to adapt these changes. So, this game was not created for a hard difficulty, this is why sometimes it feels broken and it is very frustrating.
Just made it through that mission. Maaan, was it hard :D; I see that u keep destroying those powerplants although the AI rebuild them immediately!? Whtas the purpose of that?

I usually make sand bag my base while I build my army

LOL that Sneaky flamethrower going for the Quadra Kill at 19:18
8:17 You don't need any help to kill that stupid Bazooka soldier, thanks to this magnificent Tiberium :3
As a kid, I was unable to get through this mission until I started cheating with sandbags.
Can't really blame you for that :P
Sandbags are REALLY OP in TD, they severely nerfed them in RA.
Ah, March to Doom. One of the most iconic tracks on Tiberian Dawn. I really don't understand why it didn't get remakes in later C&C titles.
Your video is helpful, thanks Zod.
I usually have to use sandbags to surround my base until I get my economy up and tanks building

Why do I remember encountering a flame tank at the beginning of this mission when I was a kid? Am I mistaking that for the light tank?
If it was a flame tank, the mission would be impossible IMO haha
Theres a flame tank if you go left rather than right at the turrets
Yeah left at the start killed all my grenadiers 😢
Is hard difficulty broken or is it so unbalanced on every difficulty?

How do you change level difficulty?
I speedran this one on normal in 3 minutes 22 seconds.
not me trying to clear out the turrets 😩

This will bait their entire army out of their base, destroy a big chunck of the NOD economy and you can shut down the obelisks.
use the sandbag trick!
Are u playing on easy?
Its definitely not on hard, you can tell that just by the beach landing at the start
