Many of the throws with the old design were landing in a flat angle and then gliding forwards in the ground which put the officials and other athletes in danger. Before, balls were rarely every changed out which caused them to get very worn and covered in dirt which A: made it easier for the pitcher to get more rotation on a scraped and rough ball and B: the dirt on the ball made it blend in more with the dirt on the infield from the batters perspective. But you also had odd stadiums like the pole grounds with very short right and left field porches but an insanely deep center.

If rule changes made old records "irrelevant", then almost every record in pro sports would be irrelevant:
MLB: smaller pitcher's mound, smaller stadiums
NHL: different penalties (obstruction, blindside hit), 3 on 3 OT & shootouts
NFL: higher field goal posts, extra point kicks from 15 yd line (formerly 2 yard line)
NBA: farther 3 point line, larger key

God, that footage at 1:09 is unreal. Even in slow motion his throw looks like some people's regular speed throw. I wish I knew how to estimate the amount of g forces that throw put on various parts of his shoulder, arm and back because even if you're not on track and field, you can probably just understand intuitively how insane it is that a throw like that doesn't just tear a person's ligaments apart. It blows my mind seeing clips of high-level athletes in slow motion because it just looks so unnatural. They really are practically superhuman. I'm absolutely certain that throw would destroy my shoulder if that was me. It's so obvious to me that it feels silly and trite for me to even say it. My entire shoulder would probably just explode.
