On one hand, I want to comment on how much better this is than Ultimate Dancouga. On the other hand, I am really going to sound like a bitter old man that is stuck wishing for the glory days to come back.
It's been so long and I still miss dankuu sougaken. Z2 was my first SRW (other than OG1 & 2), and I'll never forget it, or the sequel (where this was). Unfortunately, I lost my PSP in the gym over a decade ago, so I don't have my save anymore... Maybe I'll get a replacement some day.

I kept laughing at the fact that shots of Dancouga and Final Dancouga are directly ripped from the anime. Though one of the Obari-made close-ups was created for the game.
One of those cases where the old super robot show is actually better than the new version, unlike Kotetsushin JIIIIGU, Mazinkaiser, Shin Mazinger, Getter Robo Armageddon/Neo vs Shin/New, Gaiking LODM, etc...
In terms of the story, yes, although I personally prefer the design of Dancouga Nova and the fact that all the animal robots that form it are completely different (Dancouga Nova: bird, elephant, rhino and cat; vs Dancouga O.G: bird, elephant and two cats).
Dancouga should have stayed in Super Robot Wars Z3 and focused more on the Hakunetsu no Shuushou story, and improved the story of that OVA more. As long as they don't do that in a future title, I'll keep dreaming.

You don't. Even if I like Ultimate Dancouga a lot I felt like its attacks and design were very lazy so I still prefer the classic Final Dancouga.

Coming back to watch this after Ulti-Dancouga disappointment.
At least Ulti-Dancouga has a kickass theme, though it really isn't enough to make up for the lack of Dankuucougaken.
Ultimate Dancouga feels incomplete and I'm hoping they flesh out his attacks even more in the next entry if he ever reappears as a unit.

Almost every line he has here was recycled from other titles. You can notice this in his voice when he does the combination attack with Nova.
