I’m 26 in 2024 that still listens this music !
I have to thank my mom who gave me the chance to know this music and much more !
😊❤
Great mom enjoy from a child of the eighties
A great answer to the question "What is creativity?"
You certainly have none so why ask?
Really.
You would know?
Absolutely buddy!
: D
One of the best songs ever made, and I truly believe that. The positive vibes are massive
That baseline is too much fun! I still have a crush on him!
Love it myself, kid of the 80's
@@eyesopen66 indeed it is
When Thomas and I still had hair. About 15-20 years ahead of it's time. All my friends thought this was noise. Still love it.
Despite all the advances in technology, this video still oozes originality. Blessed were we in those days to see and hear such a master as Thomas Dolby.
I will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS love this song.
It’s taken me years to figure out Thomas Dolby is pure genius. I should have know this years ago .
Check out the "Hot Sauce" video
I totally agree. At the time I dismissed it but in hindsight is's pure genius.
Same here. I thought, he was strange, even then, but now, it seems like the best song to describe the 80s.
I just discovered it to, the music genius he is. I read that he also provided the synthesizer sound for the Foreigner song Waiting for a girl like you. The guy created such great music electronically, ahead of his time.
One of the sickest basses ever!
I always thought it was a bass guitar but apparently not!
It's samples. Not any less cool.
@@babayaga1767 Samples, loops, real, who cares. It's awesome!!! And yes, not any less cool.
@@babayaga1767always thought it was on a Fender P bass mm not my bad for years whoops.
I remember repeatedly watching the video to this in 1984 on our VHS . Both song and visuals were outstanding for that time.
"It's Funk Jim...just not as we know it."
Yeah, loved this since the moment I 1st heard it.
I remember when I first saw this back in the 80s. I freaked out because at the time, all of these visual effects were pretty new and unfamiliar.
I may also have been under the influence at the time as well.
Very cool 😎
I was cranking out this jam back in 84. Cruising with my friends on Hollywood Blvd. The young day's.
I saw this when I was little and for some reason it scared me. It took until I was 42 to figure out what this song was.
OUTSTANDING tune from the 1980s before MTV got away from their 'core mission' around 1987. :P Read on Wikipedia that Thomas sent a demo of this song to Michael Jackson for him to sing but never heard back from him. Dolby NAILED this tune! I can't imagine anyone else performing this song as well as he did here along with the backup vocals of Louise Ulfstedt. The music video is AMAZING and still hold up well after nearly 30 years. Here, the instrumentals and 'studio trickery' is kept to a minimum which enhances the appeal of this song in its extended, 12-inch incarnation.
You are right about 1987.
Adele Bertei was also on the track
@@thedoctor9138 yes she did and people thought it was some studio trickery pitching up her vocal but it's all her normal voice untouched. 😊
completely agree, it was genius. Nobody could have done it better.
This song was / still is amazing and I went straight to the 12" as a kid when it came out because I hated the 45/LP version which played on the radio as it didn't have any of the life (that percussion!!) of the 12" single.
that strange moment when you realize that you heard this tune in your childhood and parts of it repeated all the decades in that very far away part in your brain all along
YES
Rücklicht true
I was 13 when it came out and absolutely loved it. The early 80s had some amazing pop songs. Definitely a great time to be a kid.
@Maurauder1981 I 'm glad i not the only one who feels that way , love how eccentric this video is and if i'm not mistaken it was a famous mime troupe called MUMMEN SHANTZ [spelt something like that]🤔 that did the miming and the head box changing scenes .
keep 80's videos alive !! 📽🎤📼
CHEERS . 🙏
@@daveidmarx8296 I actually hated the 80´s when I was a kid. i though music would always sound the same. Glad that changed in the 90´s.
I used to go off everytime this video came on MTV Very funky material that still holds up
Hyperactive: when I'm small
Hyperactive: now I'm tall
Hyperactive: as the day is long
Hyperactive: in my bones
Hyperactive: in your phones
Hyperactive: and the night is young
Hyperactive : when I'm small
Hyperactive: now I'm grown
Hyperactivfe: 'til I'm dead and gone
i absolutely love the bass on this track, super underrated song
So appropriate even today👌
God Bless You, Thomas Dolby.
O.K. Laat ik het gewoon eerlijk zeggen; his music inspires....❌mjon
The ska / highlife horns and rhythms of this are fantastic. Salutes Dolby.
this is the best song ever, officially one of my favorite songs ever with all other music's.
Here’s a man that was way ahead of his time when releasing this track Big shout Thomas Dolby
This song and this guy was so awesome in the 80's. I remember jamming to this in the club's and the radio station such as Kiss108💋 playing this all the time.. Love the music that was coming from England... Duran Duran, Culture Club, Yaz, Curiosity Killed The Cat, Bananarama, Phil Collins, Wham, Bronsi Beat, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Eurithmics, Talk Talk, Flock Of Seagulls, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boy, The Human League, OMD, The Thompson Twins, Howward Jones and Erasure just to name a few. Miss and love the 80's..
Oh god....you named all the groups I listened to back then....had the cassettes or vinyl. I know KISS 108! Miss the 80s soooo much!
"Cause the teacher knew I had the funk..."
Good lord, do you ever.
The suit is so cool!
*GET UP, HYPERACTIVATE!*
*EUROPE, HYPERACTIVATE!*
*SOUTH BRONX, HYPERACTIVATE!*
*LONDON, HYPERACTIVATE!*
the perfect music video DOES exist and it's this.
80s genius, plain and simple.
I love him!!!! Outstanding! Early MTV Greatness!
When music and visuals were innovative and fun and catchy enough to keep listening and watching for several decades after. I like watching this with Tom Tom Club’s “Genius Of Love”, Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” and Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit”. Great to watch and hear.
Hiperrallante la canción, los efectos especiales para la época eran sublimes. En el cuartel, cuando el servicio militar, teníamos una sala que nos echaban siempre los mismos videos y este nunca me lo perdía. que tiempos aquellos!!
lol used to jump like a maniac to this song. I was hyperactive
聴いてるよ‼️👍️💃😁🙌🙌🙌
私も聴いてます笑
the best music from 80,revolucionary for your time.great Thomas
Never knew there was a separate video for the 12" version. Very cool.
This is the one MTV played.
Really? Wish I could remember seeing this version on MTV--I only ever saw the shorter one.
Given that MTV was operated by actual humans and music fans at the time, both versions were probably in rotation with all the other great stuff. They'd played two different "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" by Yes around the same time as Hyperactive...early 1984.
Yes, that's a very cool, full version of OoaLH! But they didn't play it anywhere near as much as the "single edit". I imagine, just like radio, at MTV, there was a lot of pressure to edit videos down that were longer than 3-4 minutes, so they could fit more per hour. Even though it was operated by music fans, the bottom line HAD to be met.
iberia77 Hall And Oates used unique edits of the 12" single for their videos for Say It Isn't So and Out Of Touch
Dolby, damn at 68 i still get it
Mr Dolby has the spirit and energy of an epic troll.
That bass, Holly shit
I go through all my Music Collection just for Songs with Best Bass to hear it on the Celestion Ditton 662 and Technics SB-M2, Cant Get Enough Of It, this was always a fav of mine on Now 2 though
Dolby is a Genius, greetings from Brazil
Still one of the best tracks of that decade and my favorite Dolby tune.
It is a song about the power of music and how many artists and sensitive people are labeled by society as "hyperactive" or "ADD" , given meds or even shock therapy, when in fact they are just receiving the signals from the greater reality. Therapy and psychoanalysis pathologizes the misunderstood and sensitive individual. The video shows this quite humorously . Quite valid still. Plus it's a jamming tune. The layers of sound in the song are amazing, the rhythms and counter rhtyhms . The technology was just starting to allow for this kind of symphonic digitization. Music as therapy! Video effects way ahead of their time and still fun to watch now. Great work Mr Dolby!
You couldn't have said it any better❤ And he let's us know that it's the age of 3 when they fill you with junk. Labelling people is just a business...The greater Reality Knows. Great Song by Mr Dolby..and thankyou for your straight to the point message @ The Yoga Face🦋🌈
Y favorite Thomas Dolby song
Gosh how incredible this song is and ahead of it's time (video too). I first heard it as adolescent, but 40 years later I still can't place it in any category. It's full of rich musical ideas that nobody thought about at that time. It's in a class of it's own. I read in Thomas's book how the song didn't reach its full potential on the charts because of the politics of music industry. This must have created incredible pain for him knowing the quality of the song but not getting deserved recognition. I feel it delayed creation of new material for many years. I would hope he still continues to make new material. I miss his unique musical expression. I haven't "seen" that anywhere else.
What pleasant memories this video brings back. Funniest music video EVER! The first time I saw it (back when it first came out) I actually fell off the sofa laughing. The dummy's body dancing! Thanks Thomas, you are a legend.
I still liked this video even Thomas Dolby was so cute in it.
Christ the 80s were good
I just may have thrown card board down on the lawn and break dance this ha ha gr es at jam lol
'Define your adolecent ages in one video'
80s thank you
this feels like an act 2 version of the song at times
The production company that created this video also did Lindsey Buckingham’s video for “Go Insane” later in 1984.
Hell yeah, and im 64!
This my joint! Love this 12 inch!
ufffff por fin la encuentro.........años sin ver el video y escucharla......tengo 53 y la escuchaba con 16 añitos.....
I just love this song so much ! Always . 🥰
Me costó años recuperar este video, y ya por fin lo encontré, muy buen temazo !!!!
Forgot about this one! Loved it back then. Still great!😄👍
I used to be BFFs with a cool Chinese dude who played tennis with Thomas in LA!!! lol
(I'd write a book.... If anyone would read it! HAHAHA!!!)
I love this video
Its good to be listening to this again. 'Hooked to a machine just to keep my mouth and spout in junk'..An underrated musical and lyrical Genius. Composer and keyboard player. ❤
Dolby is a legend. So funny, I have a friend who is a spittin' image of him. He had to look him up cuz he didn't know who he was! LOL kids!
You can see the aesthetic between him and the lead singer from The Correspondents. Back in the 80's we called it "Mad Scientist". But check out The Correspondents "Fear and Delight" - you'd swear he and Dolby were contemporaries and not like 20 years apart.
Speaking of Thomas looking like a mad scientist, he was also the teacher in Roger Waters live version of The Wall from Berlin.
This is a hell of a tune
I always thought this was the better version of the song.
This song has Daft Punk Vibes! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
“ people messing with my heart ripping ripping ripping ripping ripping me apart “
3:07 one of my favorite moments in 80s videos
That part more than anything in this video kinda creeped me out as a kid.
I love How weird the. 80. Was beoutiful
School days flash back reminds me of when i was a kid going the queens park school and going on a day out on the canal at meanwhile bike track under trelick tower in west london still play this in my van and stop and look up at trelick mad old memories good tho
i totally agree metaeditor dolby smashed this and as good as jackson was i dont think he would have put the same enegy into the track and pulled it off, dolby was perfect for this track and his backing vocalist too like i said in earlier post my all time fave pop track
F*ckin'g Genius :-)
Just wonderful.
That baseline is kickin!
This is so good
Man i love this song and video. Such a weird little psychoanalysis
Just, which Face/Voice, WAS T. Dolby? We may never Know, but we're lad we Heard His Music!! And, We, AGREE...
I love how weird the '80s was. Anyone else find themselves dancing around like a weirdo to this tune?
me
me
me
i literally don't think so.
This is only "weird" to those with small minds. This song was inventive, daring and still relentlessly catchy. I liked it even better then She Blinded Me With Science when it came out.
I don't know exactly how much this affected on my life.. More than 10 years ago i wasn't so into music at all, i just couldn't stand that shit around me. But music from GTA Vice City was like an breath of fresh air to me. Thanks for all the best memories from those times, decade after and i'm still here. This song is underrated.
Love this track
THis is a genius song and visual. So much better than the common fare for the time.
Thanks Legion
When I was 15 we had just moved to the united states and was living in a house and had cable TV, and I watched MTV a lot... this was my favorite video from that time
Love this video!!!!
Amazing song, amazing video.
And i could go for a little more of thomas
Still fantastic.
Still true after all those years 🤙🏼
Hyper active in my bones
Hyper active in your phones....
Man! What A Track!!!!!
Bass be wicked
Hmm
Tell me about your childhood
Oh!
At the tender age of three
I was hooked to a machine
Just to keep my mouth from spouting junk
Ha!
Must have took me for a fool
'Cause they chucked me out of school
'Cause the teacher knew I had the funk
But tonight I'm on the edge
Let us chuck me in the fridge
'Cause I'm burning up
Yow! I'm burning up
With the vision in my brain
And the music in my veins
And the dirty rhythm in my blood
They are messing with my heart
And they're messing with my heart
And they're messing with my heart
Won't stop messing with my
Oh, ripping me apart!
Hyperactive, when I'm small
Hyperactive, now I'm grown
Hyperactive, and the night is young
And in a minute I'll blow!
And they're messing with my heart
So, how long have you been having these delusions?
Keep on messing with my heart
Hm, please, tell me more about your mother
Oh, ripping, ripping, ripping, ripping
Ripping me apart!
Semaphore out on the floor
Messages from outer space
Deep heat for the feet
The rhythm of your heartbeat
'Cause the music of the street
It isn't any rap-attack (Oh)
It isn't any rap-attack (Oh)
Rap-a, rap-a, rap-a
T-t-t-t-t-tack
I can reach into your homes
Like an itch in your headphones
You can't turn it up (Yow!)
Yuh-huh
I'm the shape in your back room
I'm the breather on the phone
And I'm burning up (Ow!)
But there's one thing I must say
'Fore they lock me up again
You'd be safer at the back
When I'm having an
Attack, attack, attack, attack!
Hyperactive, when I'm small
Hyperactive, now I'm tall
Hyperactive, as the day is long
Hyperactive, in my bones
Hyperactive, in your phones
Hyperactive, and the night is young (Oh)
Hyperactive, when I'm small
Hyperactive, now I'm grown
Hyperactive, till I'm dead and gone
Stand up, hyperactivate!
Get up, hyperactivate!
Wise up, hyperactivate!
London, hyperactivate!
Hyperactive, when I'm small
Hyperactive, now I'm tall
Hyperactive, as the day is long
Hyperactive, in my bones
Hyperactive, in your phones
Hyperactive, and the night is young (Oh)
Hyperactive, when I'm small
Hyperactive, now I'm grown
this had to be brought in on the " BLACKBIRD " === man O man == it is NUCLEAR ! ! ! ! ! ! COOL TUNES MAN !
Very nuclear back in 84.
This needs to be THX’d
2021 remenber 80's❤️
2:28 One of the best parts!
OMG PEOPLE HAVE CUBE HEADS WITH A FACE ON EACH SIDE AND THEIR HEADS CHANGE INTO OTHER PEOPLE'S HEADS was my 12yo self's reaction to the FX in this video.
Man Thomas this is good
Ik hoef je eigenlijk niet te zien om high te worden van je muzieka , perfekt❌mjon zozo2020
Great !
I love this version more than the regular one, but I miss the solo flute 😕.
"Deepheat for the feet"
Here's a top tip: Never put your deepheat and pile ointment on the same shelf of the bathroom cabinet.
Then your song would be "Ring Of Fire" 😆😅😂🤣
This song makes me wanna get my car washed and have an A-1 day
The beginning gave me Kraftwerk vibes.
