Shinto Yudate - Boiling Water Ritual

This is the annual Shinto Yudate (boiling water) ritual. The Shinto priestess dips large bamboo grass branches into boiling water and sprinkles the water on the worshippers for purification and good health. It was fascinating to watch, and we also encountered a very friendly gentleman who invited us to join the other worshippers in taking a drink of what I’d only describe as a milky saki. This was an amazing experience we'll never forget.
