I like this show about a grown man playing with his action figures a lot more than i should, and i say that as a grown man who plays with his own action figures I just wish it had a regular release schedule.
Great review as always. I've got to highly recommend the Reprolabels set for this guy; it fixes the glaring grey parts in truck mode and the newly-black chest windows and additional details make his robot mode really pop. It made me completely change my opinion on the figure.
This comment is coming several years late, but I definitely agree. This is one figure that you just can't leave stock if you care about him as more than just a Combiner torso. I added the Reprolabels sticker set and then gave him additional paint apps to correct details the stickers didn't cover, and he's one of my favorite Optimus Prime toys now. I even gave him a "Siege" Pteraxadon Battle Master as a pseudo-Targetmaster buddy so that he can have an axe.
I debated getting this guy, but as he became rarer and rarer I became overwhelmed with the need to own him. It's been a while since a bought so,etching bigger than a legends class toy and he's totally worth having! But everything you say about the hip ratchets is 100% right. Looking forward to swapping the hips ASAP.
I bought him when I first found him in retail and since then he's always been the place holder for other CW figures. Right now I have all of Defensor's components on him until I finally find Hotspot. But hey, I found Devastator at Toysrus today. Fucking love it, even with the lack of individual articulation. The combined mode makes it all worth it.
When I first got Prime I was... Fairly underwhelmed. But over a week or so of playing about, I kinda realized he's (to me, at least) an unintended Ginrai. Made me like him a lot more. Now, all I need to cap it off is someone needs to make a third party Super Ginrai trailer for him to combine into. The bot-mode hands are perfect for holding a God Cannon over the shoulder, and the chest plugs in torso-mode could happily hold an upscaled Powermaster for a Godbomber chest to clip over.

I just grabbed the white version of Prime today. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did, but for what it is, I'm pretty happy with him. Plus now I have a new combiner for all my other random team members
On mine though, the hand ports for the weapons are SUPER tight! But they are just right for the ports in the legs. So I'm using the legs as weapon storage and making him pose all beefcake and weight lifter'ish

I looking more forward to the Scourge version. I know Grand Scourge isn't RID Scourge, but the chunkiness of him makes this mold work better for me, that and he actually has a badass weapon that works in combined form. Combining guns have not worked in this line, they all look like ornate canes.
I think the combiner mode crotch plate is meant to rest on the truck bed in vehicle mode. It looks like it would be a little more streamlined that way.
2:23 - luckily because of how the toy was engineered I don't even have to bother using this crappy looking head, I just put out the Combiner Mode head and despite some big head syndrome going on the whole toy suddenly just clicks together beautifully for me, so well in fact that I can display him with the Combiner Wars G1 Megatron with only a slight height difference between them.
There still isn't a decent replacement head for him in regular robot mode. The currently avaliable "MP-10" styled head is a bit blocky and the normal head can't stay on the figure during transformation, which renders it entirely pointless in my book.
I got this figure, and honestly, it isn't bad. Although, I hate how some people give his torso mode hips that "fan mode" look, gives his hips that too skinny look & his upper section too much bulk look...ugh....
so did you know that the carbot war axe is perfectly fitted for ultra primes size and can fit into the combiner wars hand foot gun peg hole, thus ultra prime can have his own giant melee weapon to fight other combiners with :)
I don't think they could have made the standard mode head any bigger without hitting on parts inside the torso, at least not without some redesigns. It would have been swell, that's for sure.
***** Does anybody really want another Fatimus Prime, though? At least CW Prime looks like he could snap a Decepticon in half with his bare hands, Energon Optimus looks like he's binged for a few months on McDonalds and forgot to exercise. :p Though the cartoon model was at least better with that, but Hasbro tends to homage the toys more than the shows. Which means an Energon Optimus-style would be Fatimus Prime Mark II. :p

NickonAquaMagna quick take on the CW PE addons.. Put clown shoes on your feet, and go Terminator on your hands, ripping the skin off down to the bones. There you have the summation of the CW PE addons. That's not to say the individual gun modes aren't ok, they are. That's solely for hand and foot modes.

If you can, get the Takara version of Animated OP. I got him really cheap and i love him to death. He has metallic red and blue paint and it looks so much better than the flat paint Hasbro uses.

Ok. So look... Optimus Prime is MASSIVELY overplayed and over exposed at this point... I'm honestly kind of growing tired of it now... But he will ALWAYS deserve better then to be a Redeco, of ANYBODY.
I find this Prime to be inferior compared to the 2006 Classics Voyager-class Prime. Way too many compromises for a combiner mode that just feels odd for him to have.
Prime, as imagined by Rob Liefeld. o_O that head just looks way to small. couldn't you flip out the comber head, swivel it round as use that in his single bot mode?

Awesome! Great Optimus in my opinion. The truck mode looks compact.
The torso mode reminds me of the super mode from energon- from the exposed matrix to the fins on the head
I got the reprolabels set for this guy and I think its sooo worth it. The little flourishes it adds just makes him pop.
I wish they had gone with a more "Energon-y" deco, also, What the hell, third parties? where are the Energon drone limbs???
