- Meet my new pet?! A lil storytime about how I ended up with another hedgehog... She was abandoned, I couldn't help myself. I'm a sucker for rescuing animals, what can I say. All I hope is that she didn't come from that one store I talked about in my last hedgehog video... but there's a good chance she did sadly since it's one of the easiest places to find that sells hedgehogs here in my town. My last few experiences with them have all ended terribly... let's just hope this goes better.

to be fair, the girl who was watching the hedgehog for her friend clearly didn't know better than to feed the hedgehog that little, she just trusted her friend. good for her for actually finding someone who could get the hedgehog a good home instead of abandoning her like the original owner.

That's how I got my oldest dog. A "friend" asked if I could dog sit while he moved into a new house...weeks passed and I couldnt get a hold of him until finally I ran into him at a bar and he said "oh, I dont want him back. You can just take him to the shelter." 😐 cool bro! So now he's been with me for 8 years and I don't even know how I functioned without him.

I have two ferrets. They are alot of work and need so much care and attention and training but they are amazing companions when raised correctly. They do have a distinct smell that changes based on their diet, my ferrets do not stink, they have a smell though just like you have a smell. If you're willing to put in alot of time, research and money (ferret start ups can cost upwards of 500$) then I believe they are so worth owning.

Loving animals is an pretty eternal thing. You will always take them in, and you're blessed for doing it. Death is a part of life and every animal that passes in your care is warm and happy when it does. Keep up the good work.
Taylor! Please DO NOT put the two together. As you know, Solora does not have too many days ahead of her, and if you put sarabi with her and they get used to each other, then Sarabi will be very depressed when she passes. This could lead to health problems, and I don't think that you would want to deal with more of those. Thanks!

I love when people like you save these animals, there needs to be more people like you, but there's one thing. Imigine how horrible it is to watch her eat so much she gets sick cause she starved, but at the same time taking it away has to be heart breaking too. WOWJDBEKDHFKEODJ
Animals warm up quickly to people with amazing hearts. As stressed and scared as that hedgehog was she felt comfortable and safe with you.

I've never handled/owned hedgehogs but the story that followed you keeping her relates to one of my cats we had, we were asked by a friend(?) to watch his cat -- I sort of forgot when or why we were asked such a thing, at first I wasn't too fond of him because he nearly killed my rabbit when we were moving. Prior with time, we were told to keep him ( in which I guess followed to him tagging along when we moved ), the duration we had with him shortly overturned my feelings of animosity, given my rabbit would be fine as long as they weren't in the same room as each other, overall he was a fairly sweet cat, loved attention.
To try to make a long story short as to what became of him, he died. Hit by car after a few month's or possibly a year's worth of having him, after failing to keep him from going outside ( he pretty much darted out so I barely had any time to react ), still I really can't say whether it was my fault for not being able to stop him or the one's idea to have him in the room where he was very likely to easily bolt out the second the door was open.
I always think I'm not gonna bring another animal in but then again POOF appears another one

You did well in taking her. You aren't supporting that guy's business and wrong breeding and the little hedgehog already had been born, she was alive and was in need of care. Hope everything goes well with little Sarabi. Nothing can save us of eventual heartbreak but while it doesn't come, we're giving an opportunity of a good life to these little sweethearts :-)
The same thing pretty much happened with my bunny. A friend of a friend's roommate moved out with no notice and just left her bunny for them to take care of with barely any food or cage supplies.

I know exactly how you feel. Our chinchilla passed away from a heart attack back in July, and while my boyfriend says that he doesn't want another one because pet stores have them in abundance (our chin was a petstore baby) I would take a chinchilla again under the right circumstances :) My heart goes out to you with your two babies passing.
Good for you, even after saying on youtube that you weren't going to get another, when the universe said " hey yeah you're going to need one more" you responded with " yeah, I guess so". Im a strong believer in that your pets choose you, so way ta go!

I am 33 years old and i have worked with animals my whole life, from pet store to dog boarding to dog grooming and also i was a vet tech for almost 7 years, as a vet tech i was the only nurse willing to be present with the vet during many many euthanasia's. They are obviously heartbreaking, but during that time i realized every animal deserves to have a comforting presence during this last intense moment of their lives, its really the LEAST we could do to to give back the love they give us, dogs for example; i believe we owe it to them to cradle them, tell them thank you, how much they meant even if you cant talk, just being there to pet them gently drastically reduces anxiety and nervousness in the last moments of their lives, and its just plain respectful! I wish to tell people that even the pain of loss when they leave us is worth all the love and amazing moments animals can bring to our lives! take the time to mourn, but please, so many critters need our help and love, don't close your heart to the future. Death is inevitable to us all, life is so short!! the biggest mistake to be made is to close your heart off to the possibility of love just because it can hurt...but think about it...would you go back and never have gotten that pet you loved? would you take back all the wonderful moments because of the ending?... i hope not...and i am sure your animal friend wouldn't want you to hold on to that pain forever.
