As a guy who's generally in the lower weight classes, (I hover between featherweight and lightweight usually) few things make me feel more powerful than a successful sprawl on a guy bigger than I am. Get together with some friends and wrestle in the grass or at the beach. There’s great tutorials online, just don’t go too hard in the grass since it’s not a mat
When I wrestled I used sprawl control avidly. I was always the smaller wrestler Ive explained this before so the larger people would always shoot for my legs. Course Id sprawl, but I would either do a modified darse Choke so it was a legal pin or I would cow catcher to get side control.
I miss wrestling. It's hard to find places that teach regular wrestling in vegas. As far as grappling goes, at least to the public, its usually all judo or jujitsu. When I wrestled in high school, I loved the front headlock with underhook when I sprawl. It allowed for some of my preferred moves. Like using the underhook to turn him over. Or go into a cradle. And I could still spin behind if I wanted. Theres also crossfaces for both grappling and mma with the sprawl. Etc etc etc. I loved wrestling. As for martial arts, it was my first love. And first loves are usually the ones we hold the closest.
i always watch your wrestling videos thousands of times because the only partner i have is my friend, your shadow wrestling video was a godsend, thanks for making these
Super Amazing Video Coach Ramsey. Your level of understanding the knack for combat sports is always next level. Please continue making such type of videos 🤓🤓🤓🤓👌👌👌👌👍👍👊👊👊👊💪💪💪💪
two other great tricks are 1. push the head down and get an underhook, circle to the side for a half-nelson, turn them to their back, and you got side control. 2. control the head, slide to the side and grab the near side ankle, slide your head into their side, and drive while pulling the head and leg into you. Bam inside cradle.
i always try to do a darce choke, then i cannot reach my arm, it turns into a poorly attempted anaconda choke and as a result i get swept to side control :|
Try a pec choke. It’s like the D’arce for people with short arms, or when fighting barrel chested, broad shouldered beasts. Use a gable grip instead of a figure 4 arm triangle, pull your elbows in to your body like your life depends on it. Make sure your opponent is on his side, and your chest is on top of his shoulder, and sprawl hard.
Well coming from a submission based art and going to folk style wrestling, I’d say you can go for a submission from a successful sprawl or block, or take their back and work a breakdown or submission. But in my experience, and maybe this is because of my lack of knowledge, submissions and breakdowns are significantly harder to accomplish from a sprawl against a determined opponent. It’s easy to keep them from finishing the takedown, but harder to work from that specific position. This is just my opinion though, maybe I’m not experienced enough to talk on the subject.
Thank you for these videos. I remember you showed a golf swing (I think that's what you called it) and I started practicing it to use it for my pro wrestling move set. 12:29 Does making your arm stand out work as an fighting tactic? Genuine question. Like, if your left arm or left glove was irritatingly bright red, could your opponent get fixated on it? If so, is it enough to make any difference? Are there rules in MMA regarding that when it comes to how you dress?

Hello Ramsey Dewey, I have a few questions about reaction time. What does reaction timing entail, how important is it in a fight and could I train it if my reaction timing is poor?
Ramsey Question In MMA from down on the sprawl, you cant just knee them, right to the head and face? Because if i was in that position in a street fight, I would begin to knee them too
Hey Ramsey, when you're in that side ride position with their far side wrist, what is stopping them from pinching your arm and Peterson rolling you? Or is that just one of the dangers of that position that you must be ready to counter?
If you’re asking about the Covid-19 situation, long story short: at the start of the pandemic, China shut down everything for 3 months then opened up again, business as usual.
I would say not likely, it’s certainly an interesting idea. Now you can bait them to sprawl early and take advantage of the either their legs or their height difference. In my experience if you’re close enough to get a fireman’s carry then they’ll just sprawl before. But definitely a thing to try out. Hope this is helpful.
@@twiceasodd3333 I was thinking about faking a double, then turning your body sideways so you can catch them while they are sprawling. I did a little bit of wrestling in high school and I wouldnt be able to make a double so I usually fake it and right before they started to sprawl, I stood up and end up sprawling their sprawl, lol. but this was just me when i started wrestling, it probably doesnt work on high level.
@@bryanfong1023 yeah I wrestle in high school currently actually, and that situation is all to familiar. I’d say turning to the side like that leaves you at risk of getting pinned fairly quickly, but not everyone sprawls completely in reaction to a feint. Good wrestlers feint a feint to draw the opponent off guard and hit them with something unexpected. So maybe try staying low enough to gain access to their legs, but not low enough to put yourself at risk, then maybe you can pull off that idea of yours.
