You commented on someone writing their name on the edges of a book... I did this to many many books that I kept in my classroom because I thought it would keep kids from stealing them, but now I’m just mad at myself for ruining so many of my books!! Never again!

I think a little writing in an old paperback adds character to it, but writing your name across the side of the pages is too far even for me, lol.

finally part 2! You have an amazing collection. I have the complete UK Point Horror and Unleashed . Our Nightmare Hall UK edition are only 15 books and the covers are too lousy 😂. I hope I can collect someday the US Nightmare Halls but its very hard to find here in the UK. Richie Tankersley Cusick , Diane Hoh and of course RL Stine, are my favourite authors from the series! I am happy to hear the news about Tim--I really want to get his autobiography similar to the R.L. Stine one I have! One of my favorite book illustrators. I remember not caring too much for Beach House either but love that cover. I loved The Stranger growing up! The Yearbook is on my list for this year. I am an LJ Smith Super fan. I hated the TV shows. Read the books, you'll like them. The Secret Circle and Night World series are my favorites (I'm gutted we'll never have an end to the Night World series with Strange Fate). But I really love everything she writes. I have all the original books since their original releases except for The Forbidden Game, The Heart of Valor and Night of The Solstice. I started reading at 13 in the early 90's. I used to read all the books every summer so most of my books are very worn. I ended up buying the re-released omnibus books to preserve my original books. The cover art is so stunning on the original Night World books. Sometimes I just like to look at them. Cheers!

I read the Nightmare Hall books when I was in high school in the early 2000s. I have the whole series. I have read a few Point Horror books over the years. But it wasn't until about a year ago that I really started reading Point Horror books. I have about 40 of them. I also have some non Point Horror books but the same authors. Diane Hoh and Christopher Pike are my favorite authors. You've given me some more books to look for.

I have almost all of the Christopher Pike books but I live in the UK so our covers are different. I do really like the US originals but I still prefer the UK Paul Davies/Mark Longworth covers. The later covers by Nicholas Forder are nice too but all the books had blank matte black covers with an item of art and the 'Pike' name in big foil letters so they are a bit less interesting. Unfortunately you can only get the mid-90s onwards books in these covers and some are quite rare over here as they must have stopped selling so well.

I like the ordering by publication date. Makes sense to me as they were all part of a series. Also allows you to see the changes in aesthetic over the period, as you mentioned.
I found ‘Trick or Treat’ to be completely boring and frustrating to read. The cover is so cool though. Likewise ‘The Lifeguard’. I found Richie Tankersley Cusick’s plots to be convoluted and way too many metaphors in her writing!
I have enjoyed most of RL Stine’s Point Horror books and think his writing is fun to read.
Have you read ‘Red Rain’ that was published in 2012? It’s great! Like a Point Horror book for our generation now grown up and lots of tongue in cheek humour about children, primary school and parenting.
I was born 1986, grew up in Australia and am a primary school teacher now. Over that past year and a bit have got back into RL Stine and am a big fan now. :-)

They actually did come out in hardcover alongside the paperbacks, they’re just very rare and expensive online. I used to buy all my books secondhand from either charity shops or boot sales (or swap meets, in America) and the handwriting in them would sometimes make me laugh. Like a paperback Frankenstein with “this is gay” in the margin, or my favourite, a book of Flannery O’Connor stories with a heartfelt dedication dated two weeks before I bought it. Clearly a treasured gift!

Hi Cameron, I wanted to tell about a good middle grade horror trilogy from the 90s I am reading. The name of the trilogy is called: The House on Cherry Street. It is about a family that vacations at a lake house that has been vacated for a while. Soon poltergeist activity stirs up, but currently only the two children see and sense the manifestations. The little girl in particular gets on and off possessed by a ghost. This trilogy sort of gives me the Poltergeist movies of the 1980s vibe. I recommend this to you. I got the whole trilogy off ebay for a good deal. The trilogy consists of 1. The Haunting 2. The Horror and 3. The Final Nightmare. It is awesome how in the books, the poltergeist activity takes place at night, and won't let the children sleep. In the boy's room, currently, the mirror starts to glow every night. I think you would like these.

I’m would love to get my hands on these kinds of books. But I got to ask, what type of horror do these books range from?
Like are they like slasher horror, ghost horror, or anything?

    • @LibraryMacabre

They’re pretty much the full spectrum. Slashers, ghost stories, you name it. 😎

What is a pointe horror book. They are by different authors so how do they get that classification?

    • @LibraryMacabre
      @LibraryMacabre  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Point Horror is a series published by scholastic by many different authors, almost like an anthology series. Most had a specific formula, and they consisted of murder mysteries or slashers, and paranormal stories all centered around teens.

Haha It’s just L.J. Smith used to be grouped in with the teen horror authors back in the 90s so I’m just used to her being there 😆

I remember this book called The Spell, just can't remember the author's name. It's about this girl who meets this eccentric old lady who happens to know magic. Anyway she doesn't really believe it but when her friend violates her privacy she asks a favor.
Anyway I was pretty young when I read it.
