I love that fact that you just love the sound of this amp! You "I should practice more"... yeah we all should... we all should also love great amps with great sounds! Matchless has a magical sound and you love it. Thanks for posting!
Love the Clubman. But it's not a Marshall, regardless of the power tubes. Matchless' magic is in their preamps and output transformers, and I find that they all sound like Matchless, in the best way possible. The power tubes don't seem to matter as much with them.
Good demo. I appreciate good tone, and with an amp of this quality, it deserves time. I especially like the fact that there's no showboating going on. So many reviews have these monster shredders which don't actually allow much tone to come through.Best tone was about 2/3 rds through without
Yes and no. There's more than enough headroom in the power amp section. But if you're talking about cranking the actual EF86 preamp, it does breakup pretty quickly. Some of the most headroom I've heard in an EF86 amp, but those tubes just love to break.
@SamuraiGTR The Lightning was a little bit bassier, and the Spitfire has more cutting mids. At least in my humble opinion. The main difference for me is I like the way the eq is set up on the Spitfire more. Gives me more control.
@ACDCfire44 Well, on the actual amp, I've got it on the EF86 channel, gain on the verge of breakup, position 5 on the mid switch (1 down from the top), cut at just below 9 o'clock, and master at however loud you want to be. Not sure those will be exact on the modeler, but you can give it a shot! :-) You may need to drop the gain a bit on the modeler.
Nice demo - I had the channels backwards. EF86 (high gain pentode) should be the right channel (looking at it). I tried some scumbacks in mine (BH75 and BM75) - great combo. My cab came with a V30 and G12M. The V30 seemed slightly dominating to me...
Thanks for watching! I've played through many a C30 and looking at the amp, the first channel (or far left) is the 12AX7 channel, or Lightning preamp (Spitfire in mine). The middle channel, or channel two, is the EF86 channel. You can test this by pulling tubes, talking to Phil at Matchless, or checking their website. If yours is different, perhaps you've got a special one.
Karl Verkade Hey Karl - you are right - I was backwards on it. Great playing. I've tried many different combinations of speakers in mine - have you experimented?
drpicklo I've tried a few...currently with a Scumnico 30 and a Celestion Blue, with the Scumnico being the one mic'd the majority of the time. How about yourself?
@rbauer1632 Thanks! The swell was probably a long delay with some verb. And the thing with the lights is a power conditioner that I plug all my gear into.
@gitpa1 Ya, the buffer is first in the chain in the parts where I'm using effects. In the parts where I'm not using effects, it's not...that's just guitar-->cable-->amp. :-)
@Jmckevitt94 I play around with a couple different bands in the area, but nothing that I'm officially attached to for the time being. :-) I do have some original ambient songs and compositions on my youtube channel amongst all the demo's.
@cosmogang Those are the ones! My auto-riffs. hehe It's 'cause whenever I actually write something, I want to put it in a song rather than waste it on a demo. haha
@@Passenger95 i just bought one without, going to be a while before i can afford one with. I was trying to find an example of the hc30 reverb sound, but doesnt seem to be one on youtube.
I have to laugh, but I just compared this video to about 5 other demos you've done and you play the same licks in all of them! I love it! lol (especially the pentatonic hammer-on riffs!) Alas.....I am just jealous of your gear.
Thanks for doing this! Love the EF86. 😀
EF86 is absolutely where it's at. None better, hidden gem in plain sight.
I love that fact that you just love the sound of this amp! You "I should practice more"... yeah we all should... we all should also love great amps with great sounds! Matchless has a magical sound and you love it. Thanks for posting!
Fantastic,what opinion have about Matchless Clubmann?
Regards,

Great sounding riffs to me! Love the Demo! My HC has been my main amp the past couple of years.

Even on TH-cam I can hear how complex the clean sounds. Nice amp, it just speaks to you.
Thats exactly a demo I searched for! Thanks! Does the EF86 channel stay clean also at high volumes?
Yes and no. There's more than enough headroom in the power amp section. But if you're talking about cranking the actual EF86 preamp, it does breakup pretty quickly. Some of the most headroom I've heard in an EF86 amp, but those tubes just love to break.
What kind of rectifier tubes you use? Gz34 or two 5u4g? Great tones!
Awesome demo!
What pedal do you engage at 07:35?
That tone is to die for!
Thanks
@dparel Thanks, bro! And right on...always nice to meet fellow Matchless lovers. :-)
@DeNovaBand You'll get some great lead tone from the Lightning, but I'd really recommend a D13 RSA23, or a Matchless Chieftain.
hearing that amp with that guitar tells me how sweet that amp is. do you have the buffer plugged in?
Great demo.
What is the difference sound-wise between " Lightning " preamp and " Spitfire " preamp ? How different is the voicing ?

Awesome "Heat" poster!
Rare Italian print. Pride and joy. Nice spot!
Clean tones are amazing to me. Love it! Guitar sounds great (must be part of the sound, right?) and looks cool too.

Karl Verkade Celestion alnico bluevox branded and Scumback BM75 (greenback)
Chris Picklo Now have a weber blue dog (pre-rola doping/30 watt) with the Scumback B75. Good combo. I want to try the V30 with the alnico speaker.
@bobo62 You know what? It totally was. I should've mentioned that. Good catch.
@ChickenRapist I absolutely agree. The longest I've been satisfied with an amp to date. :-)
@rbauer1632 Thanks! The swell was probably a long delay with some verb. And the thing with the lights is a power conditioner that I plug all my gear into.
HI,Karl,i have a matchless h30 too,when i use it loop,the sound change small,are you meet it?
Good quality cables for the effects loop? That'll help.
@GuitarLessonSarasota Thanks, brother!
@Kitarist88 There's a Celestion Blue and a Celestion G12H-30. :-)

@DemoColorScheme Thanks, man. And ya, I bet most of those pictures had me with hair, too. haha
@Danthehorse haha Thanks, brother!
@tcroyal960 I'm not sure if you can have them build it that way, but I did have them mod it into that for me. :)
@cosmogang Those are the ones! My auto-riffs. hehe It's 'cause whenever I actually write something, I want to put it in a song rather than waste it on a demo. haha
@laurensthoeng Thanks! That was a ZVex Super Duper. :)
@yongling haha For sure. Thanks, bro!
@MrDualshowman Thanks! And one GZ34.
nice amp Karl
HC-30 With or Without Reverb?
One of each.

What speakers are in your 65 cab?
I want a Matchless so freakin bad!!!
What kind of speakers were you using here?
@jasfiona Thanks a ton. And ya, you're not gonna get any monster shredding with me, so that works out! haha Cheers!
@pimpleburger haha Right on!! It's a wonderful amp.
what kind of speakers are you using
Probably a Blue and something I can't remember in this video. Now I'm using a Scumback Blue and something else I can't remember.
@robplaysstratsloud Thanks!! Got one now. :)
Splendid! ;-)

Your quotes are wrong in the video, but your taste in amps are right on the money! GREAT video, thank you for sharing! =)
I don't doubt it.
