My last backpacking trip this fall we were having a tough time getting a decent fire going. Two guys camped out near us had a huge roaring fire in no time. They carried a full duraflame log in about 5 miles!
It's definitely nice to have a solid fire starter with snow and cold, but carrying a full log that far is pretty hard core. We got in our miles on that trip since it was an out and back, and it was nice to end it close to the car to enjoy some modern luxuries. We probably should have really lived it up at the Lonesome Lake hut, which was only about a mile away. Take care.
The pair I used in a few of my videos were MSR Evo Ascents. I actually just rented them from my local outdoor shop. Don't think they make that version anymore but you could probably find them for a deal online. I liked them a lot.

Well done my friend, you have a new subscriber!!! I live just south of the Adirondack park in N.Y. Ever been there?
Sadly the only time I've spent in NY has been in NYC. Glad you enjoyed all my trips and thanks for the sub!
What kind of snowshoes do you have?? And do you like them???

I rented the same ones as well, my last time out.
