I’m studying the rules and running through some examples of play trying to nail down the amazing solo game mechanics. Your video gave me countless “Ah Ha!” moments where everything becomes clear and easy to understand.

This was a great introduction to this game. As a new owner of DDaT, it was very nice to see game play. It will help a lot with understanding the rules as I read them..
Thanks Joey. The game is not scripted at all. I'm sorry that the video gave that impression. In the video I concentrated on examples of some game mechanics which I found interesting. In the game there are lots of decisions, actually. The Marines can move and one decides where and with how many units to attack; you can call in artillery, also. I didn't include a movement example, but units move 1 or 2 hexes, so one has to tread carefully.
im not sold on this ruleset at all. it seems like a three layers of complication and constant table reference. though depth marker mechanics is interesting, the whole package seems like a tough nut to crack before you can enjoy the game.

Great video. At 40:40 when the US side reveals a Reinforce event during close combat, it should have been treated as no event. You implement it only when the Japanese side draws it.
A really wonderful video. The voice over in particular is clear and concise with each part of the video very well explained. If you ever do a video for Whistling Death or Speed of Heat I shall be most grateful. Exceptionally well done.

Wonderful (as usual) Video Joe. Always love your professional presentations. I had a hard time seeing the area of the game where the player gets to make any decisions. Looked as if the player was simply following a script.
Boy, this is an example of a game I'd enjoy but only if the computer handled the nuts and bolts. It's a shame the computer wargame industry moved towards an emphasis on silly graphics rather than a proper top-down map view where you concentrate on maneuver and tactics.

This seems like a complex game to learn. Although I have no doubt it is worth it, especially if one is interested in the Pacific War. The video acts as a useful compliment to the rule book in explaining certain aspects of the game. QED if you will. Of course no game can show what a bloody slog it was for such a small island. Of the 4,500 Japanese garrison, only 17 decided not to die for the Emperor. The game at least shows the problems faced by the invading Americans. Lessons that had to be learned for the future prosecution of the war.
Thanks, Milky Way. US units transported by Amphibious units move during the US Amphibious Operations Phase (Phase 1). US units that are already ashore move during the US Action Phase (Phase 4).
The cards basically subsume a lot of what would be in charts in a easier to handle format. You could put everything into charts, but you'd end up looking stuff up endlessly as opposed to just drawing a card, and doing what it says to do.

Excellent review Joe. I just picked up Omaha Beach and am thoroughly enjoying it right now. Butterfield is a favorite designer of mine.

I still am reading through the rules. How do you trim your pieces and what tweezers do you use to move your markers?
+math4U1234 To clip the counters I use an Oregon Laminations corner cutter, 2.5 mm. The big tweezers I purchased on Ebay in 2013.

Why must all games today use cards of some type? If I wanted to play with cards I'd play hearts! ;)
