- On the international stage, Carnarvon is known as 6701, but to the locals, it’s a relaxed country town with ideal weather. The Races WA visited the Gascoyne town as part of our Regional Roadshow.
Located just ten hours from Perth, making it ideal for visiting trainers or trainers who want a base for the season, Carnarvon is known for having some of the best climate in WA at 28 degrees nearly all year round. This country town has a relaxed lifestyle which is great for people who love the outdoors, sunshine plus fresh fruit, veggies and seafood.
The town’s unique character can also be seen at the space museum which has tracking equipment from the 60s, plus its very own cat, Buzz, who has its own merchandise range.
Horse racing here is more than just the races, it’s literally in the blood, with multiple generations involved at all levels of the club. It also brings the community and people from all walks of life together, with the club celebrating its indigenous heritage and influence with their Racing on Country meetings.
The Carnarvon season runs from May to September each year with the grand final being the Carnarvon Cup! So, if you want to visit a tropical town next winter, be sure remember Carnarvon as your next destination!
