      At this time, the spiritual was key to Western civilization, and was considered far more important than the material. At this time, men like Francis of Assisi were considered important people, who had the ear of popes, and founded mendicant orders, some existing to this day. At this time, if a person heard the voice of God, they did not put him or her in a cage, but rather interviewed that person to determine if he or she was a saint.

    Tapping of shoulders with a sword to dub a man a knight is probably more modern. Or just cooler and less brutal to our modern-day society. 'Twas the slap of the cheek or sometimes both cheeks which were considered that right of passage. And sometimes the flat side of a sword was used instead of the back of the hand. Using a sword would risk a man getting cut, but hey, cool scar on your face to remember your oath by. Liam Neeson's line sums it up. "and that's for you to remember it."

    Excellent movie. People dragged Scott for his all white cast in Exodous-but this one predates it significantly and he cast this one diversely. To make any bad aspersions about Scott is in of itself offensive. Brilliant film maker. His brother as well. Rare breed of artists the both of them. Hell with these keyboard critics.

    This movie was so good because it had some very strong actors, all of whom could probably helm a period movie, and yet they all play random, everyday characters here.

    In the 2005 film, "Kingdom of Heaven" - about the Crusades....Actor Liam Neeson tells his illegitimate son, actor Orlando Bloom(Balian of Ibelin), that,
    "I am your father".
    I have been talking about how Joan of Arc's father (Jacques d'Arc - Darc Vader) may have given his daughter Joan these words to take to the Dolphin of France, Charles VII
    "'Fluke'. I am your father."
    "Fluke", being the pet name for his illegitimate son, the Dolphin of France.
    A "Fluke" can be the tail of a dolphin, and an accidental occurrence.
    Actor Powers Boothe plays a very dark, Jacques d'Arc (Joan of Arc's father) in the 1999 TV miniseries, Joan of Arc. In the opening scene, we see Darc Vader attempt to snuff out the life of the newborn Joan, very reminiscent of the scene in the film NOAH (Russell Crowe - 2014) where Noah attempts to snuff out the life of the 2 newborn daughters to his son Shem.

    while I appreciate all the fantastic comments in this section, they truly do bring a smile. I thought I would offer how it comes across to me as a father. Some have stated the sin about the means of conception. My take is the humility of Liam's character that the sin would be absence from his life. It could be that Liam's character knew that with the defects in his old life his son would not have turned out nearly as moral and upright as the man that is before him in the scene. Just a thought.

  • @dwaynecostello5788
    @dwaynecostello5788 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is interesting the word "sorry" is used.. "Are you sorry for all your sins?". A man of God (Priest/clergy) would certainly use "repent" on a deathbed scenario/confession. Could lead to the further conclusion he is indeed an angel. The overlying theme "you reap what you sow" would therefore translate as Godfrey had a hand of God watching over him just as he had watched over the king and the people. Either that or the angel is secretly Canadian :)
