Good Fortune is a one of a kind documentary that tells the rags to riches story of business mogul John Paul DeJoria, owner and CEO of both Paul Mitchell and Patron Tequila. Directors, Joshua and Rebecca Tickell, do an amazing job at showing the audience a part of JP that most people never would have known. Whether it’s donating to fellow friend and conservationist, Paul Watson, to riding his beautiful motorcycle in an effort to raise profits which will go to first responders, JP is a genuine and hart-warming individual. My favorite part of the film was when JP guest starred on the hit show “Shark Tank,” and decided to invest in a small-time farmer and his water saving apparatus. JP did it not because he needed to, but because he believed in the person and wanted to see him succeed when all the other investors on the show never even gave him a chance. This is what makes this documentary such an uplifting and inspirational story, JP cares about making profit, but he cares even more about people and their wellbeing. I truly loved watching this film, and highly recommend watching it for all those lovers of documentary films out there!
Good Fortune is the rags to riches story of philanthropist JP DeJoria. The latest documentary from Josh and Rebecca Tickell (Fuel) tell JP’s story through reenactments, archival footage and interviews with JP and his friends, including Dan Aykroyd (who also narrates), Danny Trejo and Arianna Huffington. The film follows JP from his childhood living in foster care to being homeless to founding Paul Mitchell and Patron Tequila. Seeing how JP overcame these obstacles is incredibly inspiring and it is heartening to see him use his success to give back through charity work. A moment that I love is JP’s Peace, Love and Happiness Ride, a rally he holds to raise money for first responders. The event features live music, motorcycles and it really shows a lot of JP’s character; as Aykroyd says it melds JP’s passion for charity with his passion for fun. If you want a positive and fun documentary, I highly recommend Good Fortune.
Good Fortune is the humble and inspiring story of John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of Paul Mitchell and founder of Patron Tequila. Though poor and rocky beginnings, DeJoria never stopped persevering to achieve success and be able to share that success with others. JP is a humble and genuine guy that was always optimistic about whatever lies ahead in his journey. My favorite scene in the film is when his daughter is reflecting on a memory of her dad paying for another family’s meal at a diner and didn’t want any recognition for the generous act. That scene truly describes the humbleness of DeJoria, all that he stands and works for. This film was truly powerful as it gave me introspection into simple acts of kindness I can do to help others in need. Good Fortune is a must see documentary filled with interviews, archives, and self reflection from DeJoria that make you feel connected to John Paul as if he know him personally.
John Paul DeJoria, one of the richest men on Earth, a pillar in the fashion industry, a legendary businessman, and a generous philanthropist, has his story told from its humblest and most crushing moments to the highs of his life in Josh and Rebecca Tickell’s documentary: Good Fortune. This film follows DeJoria’s life and life experiences which have shaped him into who he is today, communicating with his audience through a storytelling style. This film, stylistically, allows its audience to become so personally enthralled with DeJoria that by the end of the film it feels as though his story and character have been familiar to the viewer from before the film began. I recommend seeing this film for those hoping to witness a life experience so unique that it’s capable of inspiring others.
Good Fortune follows Paul Mitchell CEO John Paul DeJoria, how he became a successful entrepreneur and how he gives back to others today. Believing in conscious capitalism, DeJoria is a billionaire that wants to give rather than spend and he gives to over 160 charities! As a business major, I loved this documentary because seeing a successful and selfless businessman try to positively change the way others do business inspired me. As a film fan, my favorite part were the genuinely gushing interviews from JP’s friends, who just happen to be stars like Danny Trejo, Dan Aykryod, and Michelle Phillips (The Mama’s & the Papa’s). Directors Rebecca and Josh Tickell brilliantly hit every single emotion, making me tear up and both the sad parts and the inspiring parts. I recommend this movie to anyone looking to be inspired!

Really? What about those of us that spend a lifetime doing good but not well? Bullshit ego flick.
What I find more annoying is the comments below seem very programmed.
Anthony Bourdain was dropping french fries in grease as a back up cook at age 44. Keep grinding.
