I had a 2013 1200 Tiger. Put 25,000 on it 60/40 riding and loved it. Switched to a 2016 800XCa and will never go back to a 1200. Unless you're riding 2 up, get an 800. Nobody has aver said, "I wish I had a heavier bike." Well maybe HD riders have.
Mark, what you say might be true for offroad riding. But many of us are interested in a touring bike, so what you say is not applicable. It's nice having power on the road. btw, on craigslist there are 50 Tiger 800's for sale and only 1 Explorer. Why do you think that is? Because once people realize riding ADV machines off road is a myth, they get rid of it and get a bigger displacement machine.
Even for touring/sport-touring many people are going for lighter bikes. Some even lighter than an 800 (like 300-500cc). An 800 can do the same speeds on pavement as a 1200 but shaving weight is beneficial for many reasons. A larger bike will usually bee less fatiguing for long distance and high speed riding though. Also, features like a killer shaft drive take a lot of the tedious maintenance and worry out of extended travelling. Pros and Cons to everything. What important is we're having fun and safe riding!
hahaha! Harley's are only for the sound... never see an Harley on the roads during week days, only on weekends, and only at bars or at garage... Harley riders spend so much time washing it, that they never actually ride them lolol funny guy!
@@colonelsly ja ja there are two kinds of Harley riders those that only ride about 1200 miles per year and those that Ride them every day including to work every day rain or shine.. My only thoughts are that most Harley riders never rode any modern bikes to know how much better they are than Harley ..
Great Review … The Triumph 1200 sounds very impressive,,,, no wonder it costs what $28,000 US dollars.. I read that some where can't verify .. I am leaning towards and 800 myself in the XCA version .
I just purchased a 2019 tiger 1200 XCA for $23,287.38 out the door in California, 20,329.76 before tax, lic, reg, and other fees. I just think the 1200 is a more beautiful looking bike than the 800.
We didn't notice anything unusual. Maybe if you were stuck in stop n' go traffic a lot it would add up but there was nothing strange when moving. As a touring machine which could handle some bad pavement or the occasional fire/gravel road, it's a beast. Also, the engine performance is in a different class than the previous Explorer. Best thing to do go for test ride if possible.
Your boot start scraping because you almost missed the corner at 1:06 :-) But for the rest, very good review indeed, no over amount of useless smalltalk, just the bare facts. It gives me a good impression of this bike. I have not ridden it yet, but I will in due time. But offroad riding is nothing for me, I even avoid small grass patches and potholes.
Hey Bernard, the wheels are the same size so there's no difference there. Many people have no problem with cast wheels in moderate off-road conditions, but if you're going for the spoke look or will be hitting a lot of rocks, then the wire wheels may be the way to go. Weight wise, these are tubeless spoked rims so the weight may be a little less than cast. But, at the bikes weight and power, it may not make much of a noticeable difference.
What about commuting?? I have a Honda NT700V ABS and I commute 154 miles round trip so I am thinking about getting a more powerful upgrade bike that can handle the daily travel.
Commuting will not be a problem on the bike, but it will be heavier than what you're on now. This makes a difference in certain situations like pushing or pulling the bike into parking spaces....or simply keeping it up in stand still traffic.
Thanks Terry! Although there are a few who can do amazing off-road tricks on large bikes, we also believe many riders aren't looking for "extreme" performance. Many simply want a capable, fun, confident and reliable bike that can be a companion for whatever type of experience they prefer to have. The versatility of ADV and Dual-Sport bikes we think fits this bill very nicely. Whatever your budget or style, now there's an ADV bike out for just about anyone...and it only looks to get better down the road/trail!
ADVMoto - totally agree, a tiny percentage of these will do any real off-road work, like most bikes of this nature from other manufacturers. It won me over, I just put my deposit down!

I’m hearing there is a lot of engine heat compared to other bikes in the class ?im thinking of purchasing a XRT fo highway touring.

Thank you,but whats with cutting the corners you don,t have the speed so whats the point? The left handers!

Will that mag wheel last on offroad condition? wire wheel seems better.

Wire wheels look cool but otherwise stupid. A pain to clean.

I was there when they recorded this :D
Olá... Sou aq do Brasil, Cidade de Itaquaquecetuba-sp... Essa nova versão ele veio com Shift Quik, as trocas de marchas, sem o uso da embreagem?
Sim, XCA, XRT não veio ao Brasil.
Nice honest review.

good review ..seems like a decent bike...kinda looks like an 'angry bird' ha ha
I need to move to Spain :-)
It's at least worth a visit. May be good to go during a MotoGP race!
