As an older dude with ADHD, I can say I'm finally learning that if it isn't enjoyable, it's not worth doing. Take your time, share when you're excited to share something. Seems like you were enjoying making Survive the Night with the crowd. Chasing views is always a losing battle. When you put out content for stuff you truly enjoy, that comes through and the views will come naturally. There's so many Next.js tutorials out there, we don't need more. We need more of Cody being happy and excited to share something because if you're excited about something, it will resonate with the viewers because they're similar in interests. And you should never feel guilty for taking time to yourself. Hit the couch, watch some crap. Go for a walk. Go to dinner. It's not a race.
Wow Cody, this video couldn't come up at a better time for me. I also have a programming YT channel (in Spanish) and have been posting for more than 2 years. Lately, I have been feeling just like you... It is not that I am burnt out from coding (I also love it), it is just that somewhere along the road, I started prioritizing views/engagement above anything else, and I forgot I created the channel for me. I appreciate your honesty, and hope you the best 🫶
I love these types of videos. I think it's great that you've found your calling in game dev, I'm sure you'll have lots fun. I also got stuck doing Python code at some point and, forgive me if you already know, but there is actually typing support via annotations. It's fairly similar to how one would do it in Typescript, with the caveat that it's not going to be enforced at all like in compiled languages (I think the interpreter just ignores it). But it helps with linting and helps the IDE give you better suggestions, so I found it be a pleasant experience so far.
I relate sooo hard cody, I'm currently going through exactly this. Not really burnt out, but just can't be bothered anymore cuz I've tried so many times already
honestly, I know the videos and side projects all help you from a financial pov. but the best part of watching your videos for me is just seeing what another dev is up to, how you reason about things etc. I'm a sr engineer with 15+ years of experience. i don't "need" to watch your videos. just follow your curiosity and don't worry about the rest. it'll come.
This is inspiring bro,as an Intermediate Django developer who has struggled in communition,I find this helpful as I grow my channel, improving on my speaking skills ,learn Django and other web dev tools
Your videos have always been unapologetically you, both the good and bad, and I've appreciated that. At this point, I'm kind of just along to watch the journey and I'm sure many people feel the same (even if it's not the amount desired for a big TH-cam channel).
Appreciate all your videos so a hiatus is totally understandable. If it helps, my favourite videos from you are the higher level diagrams rather than the nitty gritty nextjs tutorials, so whatever tech stack you're working on theres something to learn! But I wish you the best luck in whatever direction you take and have appreciated this channel greatly!
Great video Cody! I always like these kind of developer videos. I've been at a similar point recently where I don't really feel burnt out I just can't be bothered to do anything haha. Cheers!
Glad to hear you are relaxing a bit. Personally I don't know where to find the discipline to code something for myself after work and gym/running combined with university, feels too much. Especially after 8 hours of staring into my laptop, i just feel like it's better if i let my eyes rest. Anyway, that's my first comment on your channel, though I have been a sub for quite some time now. Keep up the good work;)
I'm happy for you that you're taking this direction; I'm happy for me that you'll be sharing some game-dev stuff - Vercel is cringe. Excited for what's in store
Appreciate you give the talk and the update maybe you can start some python projects on your channel, perhaps you will attract pythonists more anyway, i hope you will have a wonderful holiday incoming with your family dawg.
What a coincidence! I've also been looking at Django lately. Just yesterday I did an episode on the Learn With Jason show where I demoed a Django app. I'm also planning to start a streaming series on Monday to get more into Django. Looking forward to see your future Python/Django content!
Do you, Cody! I believe it's your personal takes, experiences and thoughts on various tech things that is most interesting to viewers - not the hottest frameworks, libs or whatever. Game development sounds fun btw :) Take care.
Again for your record I'm not a react nor next.js dev and I'm always here. I suggest you do some interviews/ podcasts / reviews maybe as a general purpose coding content without actually coding.
Sounds like you’ve got a little bit of burnout. Maybe a React + Django app which probably used more often than Next.js. I think you’ll be surprised how much Django & DRF does for you with the auth, ORM, admin.
You don't owe us anything. Take as long as or as many as breaks you need. Videos made without love/enthusiasm aren't neither good (or that enjoyable) for us (viewers) and especially for you and your health.

great words of wisdom! thanks man!
Couldn’t have put it better. It’s refreshing to hear some pushback to the grind culture.
@k00k Love your comment mate! Wise words!!
Welcome to Django and Python community big dawg.
a content creator still in the industry is a great resource for audiences.

Excited to see you do anything you are passionate about!
You do you mate. Slow down if you feel like. Love that you picked something new. Pivot or slow down. Just be you!

All the best man. Always wanted to learn how game development works; here we go.
Great video Cody! I always like these kind of developer videos. I've been at a similar point recently where I don't really feel burnt out I just can't be bothered to do anything haha. Cheers!
Hey, just want to say that I appreciate everything you have done so far in this channel 💪
holy crap. welcome to django!
Types are optional in Python but i like to have types. Structs and interfaces can be used in different way but they are available too
