    I'm surprised you rank Vaxis II so low, It's got me hooked and is in my top 3!

      @wrashchild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be higher in future. I’m still listening to it a lot though. What tracks do you like?

    • @chelfyn
      @chelfyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wrashchild I kind of take it in 3 sections, with an orchestral piece front and back. The first movement (Beautiful Losers, Comatose and Shoulders) are all solid coheed rock numbers. The middle section goes more than a bit poppy all the way through to the love song, Our Love. Then it kicks off a fantastic prog-rock opera in the last three tracks, with ever-increasing runtimes.
      I like the first section especially Embers and Shoulders.
      The middle is growing on me, but took a while to get past the autotune moments. Love Murder One works for me, and Liars Club is solid. Bad Man and Disappearing act are my least favourite things on the album.
      The closing section, however, is one the best things I've heard since The Willing Well. I love it. Ladders hooked me instantly, Rise grew on me (especially after I played it a few times on Rocksmith and worked out some of the guitar parts), and Windows is a stunning closer.
      I'm one of those people that puts Good Apollo 1 as probably my top album from the 50+ years I've been on this planet, so there's a chance our tastes are similar :)

      @@chelfynPerfectly put! I mean, obviously art is 100% subjective --- which is why we love it! --- but you hit the nail on the head perfectly, in my opinion.
      Bad Man is maybe the only song on the record that I'm not a fan of. Ladders, Rise, and ESPECIALLY Window knock my socks off. I'm a big fan of musical theater and its structure and orchestration blow my mind.
      It's funny you mentioned learning a bit of a song on guitar because I've been learning Rise on the drums from Josh's TH-cam page for months. I finally got it dialed in nicely over the past few days. I'm so pumped. Unraveling his open-handed style was much trickier than I thought it would be, ha.
      Take care. ✌️

    Very respectable list my dude. I guess I'm one of "those" coheed fans where I adore their first four albums to death. They are without a shadow of a doubt my favorite albums to ever be released nothing has even come close, Coheed or otherwise. But I just cant really like much of anything that came after. But I guess unlike most people I really liked The Color Before the Sun but that's the only album I like besides the first four. I've tried to get into their later stuff and I just can't, I just don't feel that Coheed magic anymore. That being said I'm honestly glad, it means thy're constantly changing and evolving. Even after all these years they're still growing as artists. Like you said, they could just rehash Welcome Home and or just become another forgettable one note band but that's not Coheed. It never has and it never will be.

    • @wrashchild
      @wrashchild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get what you mean. I feel like sometimes the music you listen to from 13-20 will never be beaten. Colour Before The Sun is better than what it is perceived as for sure. 100% I respect them for it too. We’ve always got the older albums to listen to. But I’m always excited for new Coheed

    • @CodyTheGuitarist
      @CodyTheGuitarist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wrashchild I'll always give their new stuff a shot and for what its worth they do always have at least one song on every album I like. While their new stuff isn't to my taste they still are masters of song writing. I just really hope that damn auto-tune isn't a perminant fixture. While I've always respected how they constantly change styles I don't condone the use of the auto-tune in vaix ll. I just don't understand it, Claudio has a hell of a voice and I hate to see it ruined by something that hasn't been relevant in 10 years, and for good reason.

    Is he a good apollo guy or an in keeping secrets guy? Personally, in keeping secrets popped them, and good apollo is number 1. Ten speed; willing well. Just absolute banger after banger, never a dull moment even with a longish intro. Intro track and acoustic track before a song with an acoustic intro and all. When Im not just listening to 1 or a couple songs off that record (because theyre all so good that they stand alone in my head).. Im listening to all of the intros, everything.
    That will forever be my favorite album. I still listen to everything they have put out so far and watch a lot of their live performances, but that album is captured really fucking well in the cross-section of them being a garage-type post hardcore band and becoming this monolith of heady, and proggy hard rock that can still exist on popular radio. Getting their first experience dealing with a real big production of an album instead of them sounding like home recordings. My buddy showed me the crowing and it blew my mind, but got myself that disc and it helped me develop a taste in music which made me wanna make it myself. Then of course I killed my computer downloading every demo off of limewire I could find. Cuts marked in men acoustic, fucking WHAT? Hahaha

    My list. I personally think Year of the Black Rainbow is underrated. It's definitely very different than Coheed's other music, it's far more prog metal, far darker, more cold and mechanical with Pennie's drumming, but it's a damn good album (with some questionable production). Imo the new album is the best thing they've done since Afterman. It's way way better than Vaxis I.

    As an OG fan that was also active on Cobalt and Calcium, it's interesting the sort of odd (and severe) disagreement here. I'm similarly not huge into the story (but know it all anyway) agree Good Apollo IV Vol 1 is the best Coheed record (and best album of all time imo), but as of now Vaxis II is second or third in line (Just saw them live a couple days ago and it was easily their best performance I've seen - and I've seen a lot).
    Another fun and huge agreement/disagreement: I rate Evagria the Faithful as a top 10 Coheed songs but I also rate The Audience and It Walks Among Us in that list. I've listened to Good Apollo Vol 1 around 7,300 times and if It Walks Among Us snuck onto that album I wouldn't notice a difference. Perhaps the vast range of agreements and disagreements is a testament to their greatness. I appreciate your review and thoughts.
    P.S. Oh, and yeah, YOTBR nearly ended them imo, thank God for the Afterman Albums and Claudio ending the smoking.
