    I was about to file it down but wasn't sure if I was missing something... so that helped. The standard head gear was a little messed up for me. No matter what notch I used the hood flipped down way to far. Moved it to where it felt good and glued it in place. Now it won't over rotate. I like the hood I got but I did have to tweak it to be happy with it.

    Does the hard hat bind up against the leather? Or does it need to be broken in or does the leather need to be shaved down?

    • @aidanrileymacfadyen9847
      @aidanrileymacfadyen9847 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got the same question. I tried putting mine with that adapter but the side clips over stretch and the hood doesn't like flipping that far due to the top piece of leather. I've also noticed that the spring in the back doesn't like to stretch and is rather stiff.
      I have the same style hood as in the video along with a fibre metal hard hat so if anyone has some advice on the matter it would be greatly appreciated.

    i got the floral hood from outlaw leather and i didn’t like that the leather on it is so soft and thin, i would have liked for it to be stiff so it wouldn’t be folding and getting misshaped so easily, as a result i gotta be real careful with it because it will get super ugly really fast if i’m not careful with it which we know that out in the field that hard to do.
    i feel i was let down with it.
    the design is cool, just expected better quality/thicker leather that would retain its shape.

    Gotta ask,why would you buy a modified pipeliner when you can just get the Tiger Hood. You get none of the benefits of a pipe liner ,when you buy it this way. Super good looking hood though

    • @jacktheaviator4938
      @jacktheaviator4938 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The "outlaw" modified hoods are lighter than a sugar scoop, and the leather keeps sparks off of you when you are welding out the bottom half of the pipe. It is a pretty specialized tool
      When you are laying on a mud board welding under a pipe, and your pipeliner won't let you get in position for a clear line of sight, the flexibility of the leather comes into its own. The tiger hood has great coverage, but it is heavy and bulky.
      On the ROW I use my pancake most, followed by my outlaw, and lastly my sugar scoop. For welding off of the ROW, I use an ESAB Sentinel

    • @jeffs.5882
      @jeffs.5882 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jacktheaviator4938 I'm referring more to the added weight of putting g a flip lens on a pipeliner. It makes them front heavy and defeats the point of a light weight hood. The leather makes the hood just as heavy as the original hood. Just my opinion ,though.

    • @jacktheaviator4938
      @jacktheaviator4938 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffs.5882 the tiger hood is bulkier than a pipeliner. And I use a carbon fiber outlaw, they use a carbon sugar scoop to chop for the outlaw, so it is actually lighter than my old sugar scoop. And I've tried a flip up lense on a pipeliner, it isn't my cup of tea, because I forget to use it, but it honestly didn't effect the balance, but I guess that's just my opinion. @@xKitKatx- the "outlaw" style hoods are designed for a very specific purpose. When you are laying on mud boards welding the bottom of a 12" branch, the leather makes it much easier to get your head in a position to see what you are doing and offers more protection. A traditional hood that you can buy at you local welding supply for $120 won't do that.
      These hoods are becoming popular with iron workers and other trades because they look cool. But the reason I paid almost 400$ for an outlaw built on a carbon shell is because it makes my life easier every single day that I am on the ROW.
      I know it's hard to justify if you don't weld on the ROW, but for those that use them, it's a small expense. And a welding hood should be a legacy tool. I am the 2nd owner of my old sugar scoop. It was given to me in the 90s when I was a helper on my first pipeline job.
      If you want to really get a shock, look at the price that they are getting for pancake hoods, when they are even available. It is just 2 pieces of flat carbon fiber riveted together with a bit of balsa. Oilfield tools cost more. They are made by small shops for the few welders that actually work pipelines.
