    This panel was absolutely phenomenal. It gave so many truths with explained context. This is so important and what is often not done in the local church. I appreciate this panel as it is relevant in 2023 and beyond. This panel shows the relevancy of God’s word and its power past, present, and future. Thank you Jesus. As I read the word, I study what was the cultural times to get better understanding and allow the Holy Spirit to also reveal.

    Very conservative orthodox answers to very modern complicated questions. No distortion about the reality of slavery in the Bible AT ALL, and I love it. Obviously educated in the original languages and the historical context of the questions that were asked. More African Americans need intellectual church based conversations like the ones that took place on that stage. Well done! Keep going and may God bless your endeavors!

    In relation to the 1 Corinthians 14 pericope, I really appreciate Dr. Mccaulley's note about reading the passage within context. I wrote a paper about this passage in my MDiv program. Many NT scholars will also tell you that the Greek used for the exact verses in question is weird in terms of how it's written. Weird because it is not Paul's usual use of the Greek language. Some say the verses were a second-century interpolation. Some say he was just so passionate about it that he wrote it awkwardly. But when reading the passage in light of the entire book (and in light of all Scripture, esp Paul's other writings which commend the women who labored with him in the Gospel), I argue that in responding to previous letters written to him by the church at Corinth (1 Cor 7:1) Paul is following a pattern of directly quoting/paraphrasing the concerns of the community and then responding to it. The "prohibition", then, is not Paul's admonition of the women at Corinth but a direct quote from the community that Paul then responds to in verse 36, which in this way, serves as a correction to the people who wished to keep the women silent. Sorry for the long text but I'm passionate about this particular issue.

    I’ll be honest. This is my personal opinion but I think that the church puts too much emphasis on the love and mercy of God and not enough on the Holiness and Justice of God. I personally think thst Bible passages dealing with the Justice and Holiness of God is neglected in the church.

    • @denno3124
      @denno3124 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do agree the justice and holiness of God is often neglected. The issue with "too much emphasis" on the love and mercy of GOD is that's His salvation story for us. His Holiness and Justice involves His Son as except for His atoning death BOTH would demand our death and separation from Him. While other topics might be emphasized too little His love and mercy cannot be overemphasized.

  • @francokambela7780

    1 Corinthians7;12 Paul expressed his personal opinions and there are verses in the bible where he expressed his personal opinions and these should exalted over the truth that we might come across

  • @SamanthaStevenson76

    Those scriptures that talk about women being silent, weren’t written by Paul. They were inserted by a scribe in Corinthians, and 1st Timothy isn’t written by Paul. In Romans chapter 16, Paul greets the women in the church who are chief apostles and deacons. Idk what Easu is talking about.

  • @rrickarr

    I am a quite confused at the purpose of these answers given. Our two scholars have given profound insights to what these Bible passages were trying to convey. But how does this comfort African Americans who have been enslaved and the effects we are seeing today. How does this now comfort people who are being attacked by the GOP. How does any of this comfort the woman who is trafficked? These discussions have given reasons for why certain texts were written but they do NOT explicitly point out how the world has misused these passages and caused the misery and death of millions!

  • @francokambela7780
    @francokambela7780 ปีที่แล้ว

    On Paul's stance on women keeping silent in church and not having to teach or authority its very contradictory if we use the verses in Acts ,gospels and 1Corinthians11;4 and other instances where female prophets are mentioned and what I can say that Paul and others are products of their jewish patriarchal and patrilineal society and culture and allowed their human bias to pen their opinions

    In reading the OT ,the bible doesn't condemn he allowed it as seen in the stories of Lameck,Abraham, Jacob,Ethan the father of Samuel ,David ,Solomon and other characters and in the law codes of Leviticus18:18,Exodus 21;10 there's no condemnation of polygamy but an acknowledgement of polygamy and it's regulations and in NT when Paul was giving instructions on electing church leaders ,the restriction of polygamy was restricted to church leaders this implies polygamy was practiced and its negative descriptive was promoted by the bias and predijuice of the biblical writers towards polygamy and many of us do the same thing we unconsciously and consciously read and interpret with our human bias

    Paul and Peter condoned slavery no apologizing for them they cared more about the reputation of God and church than the freedom of the slave and promoted subservient to the masters by the slave and the excuse used by the apologists that paul and peter didn't upset the Roman colonizers and attract negative attention by the authorities against the church and in 1Corinthians7:;21-23 is offering contradictory opinions and in the OT slavery was condoned and God gave instructions on how slaves to be treated whether Hebrews and non Hebrews these are contradictions I find in the bible

    I wouldn’t use the argument that she does at 18:00. Just because a being can’t marry doesn’t mean they can’t impregnate. Plus God caused Mary to conceive so it’s “conceivable” (hee hee) that angels could as well. I dunno

  • @biggs123
    @biggs123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So a few things that we’re trying to be answered I feel the ball was dropped. The Nephalim are the giant sons of the fallen angels that were called the Watchers. Jude alludes to the fallen angles and say those that left their original estate. If Jude is clearly stating it why are we playing a guessing game? Demons and fallen angels are not one in the same. The scriptures also say the giants were before and after the flood. Og of Bashan , Goliath and Goliaths brother are all examples. Polygamy being a biblical sin also doesn’t fly. The law clearly gives guidance for it and in the NT Jesus gave the story of the bridegroom and multiple brides with their lamps. We can’t keep throwing our Western understanding to make sense out of scripture. Men took multiple wives in the past if they could afford it. No sin, no big deal. God is gendered in the scripture and that’s because he made it that way. His likeness is of a man, and he shows emotion and love using words of motherhood as well to identify that. That doesn’t take away from what he chose to be. We are in his image not him in ours. I just had to throw some of the obvious in the scripture that I’ve seen through my years of reading.

      the multiple "brides" you're talking about from the parable werent brides. they were bridesmaids aka the bridal party. Jesus clearly stated God's design for marriage in Matthew 19:4, one man and one woman.

    That shot at capitalism at 55:40 was very cheap. Capitalism lives under the exploitation of people? Slave labor is not a product of capitalism and it's incredibly ignorant to suggest it does. Does Dr. McCaulley think such conditions don't exist in socialist or communist countries? Is there an example of a society that was doing well and then capitalism/free market principles get implemented and they end up doing worse? When experts start speaking outside of their expertise and start speaking from their political view points, you loose a lot of respect from your audience.

    • @ivorysmith239
      @ivorysmith239 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is nothing problematic about the Bible true but also, I do think that these things should be answered and dealt with and not swept under the rug or danced around because some people do look at these “passages” as being some sort of immoral shortcoming of God and that has to be addressed because people’s eternal souls is at stake and because there’s the danger of misinterpreting Scripture. Slavery in the United States came about due to these “hard passages” and a misinterpretation of Scripture. So did the Salem Witch Trials and you have some people who reject the Gospel based on these events alone and many more so the issue should be dealt with and I thank this channel for addressing and dealing with it instead of running away and avoiding it

    Well stated. All things are truly written in the Bible, but all things are not truly stated by God. All things must be rightly divided.
    Therefore, the Bible is not the exact “word of God.”
    “Men” wrote by inspiration about God from their perspective! So, put that into deep thought!
    Lastly, why is it that we follow a Jewish culture concerning life? I look to Christ, but not to Jewish culture to be my guide in life.
