      Yes, 2 weeks ago I finished a Transalp, from Germany to Lake Garda in Italy over the Dolomites. 470KM and nearly 14000 vertical meters in 7 days and amazing amazing amazing scenery. Not as wild as your Wales tour, but a lot of great and challenging trails. Wonderful mountain scenery. we also did some trail blazing as we didn't take a tried and true route. I did it with 1 battery and no support team on a 2020 Cube 160 TM. Charge where possible on the way. My riding partner was on a Cube race 140 and he took 2 batteries. His bum suffered with the extra weight in the backpack. I can totally recommend it. Memories that will last a lifetime.
      Loved watching your fantastic video. I am already planning my next adverture.

      @Marie Decuyper Riding in winter is not a problem. I have seen a few people that use a neoprene cover on their battery to help keep it warm. The colder it is, the less miles you seem to get out of it.
      Wit charging off road. I took the Bosch 6A Fastcharger with me on my transalp. It wasn't a problem to charge up anywhere I tried (Use common sense). Occasionally a fee of up to €5.00 was asked for charging. but most places allowed you to load for free. I left a bit more tip.
      As regards to flying with batteries.. I haven't tried it, but have often heard that you can't. Your best bet is to take the bikes without batteries and find a place at your destination where you can rent a battery or two.

    Hats off - what a ride in just 4 days. I would have needed a couple of days' rest after just that first morning. But no need to have a go at Powys County Council! You decided to follow a Right of Way that crosses a bog, after a period of rain. Surprise surprise - it was boggy. What on earth is Powys CC supposed to do about that? You might as well have a go at Conwy CC because the rock fields were too rocky! I realize you were tired and wet and just letting off steam, but it didn't need to make the cut; it just sounded petty and ignorant. This was a wild ride and you did a great job at showing both the thrills and the challenges of wild places. Do you really want county councils meddling with that?

      I know right. Came to mid-Wales and got stuck in a bog, what a surprise 😁. Welcome to the Cambrisn Hills, a true Welsh water desert. Ebike's are a liability here, if you can't carry it over your shoulder you're going to be in trouble at some point.

    Did the continental divide trail (Canada to mexico, through the US, total-2500 miles) ride twice, once on an e-bike, then on a fat bike...
    Still working on the trans american trail, it's only 5000 miles ...

      How did you manage the battery situation?

    • @timlubbers2884
      @timlubbers2884 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasraven2024 I took the output of the battery charger and mimic that in a group of 12volt battery cells that (as 12volt groups) could be charged with a solar panel. When the 12volt groups were charged, I combined them to match the bikes battery voltage. Then I used a mini charge isolation unit to ensure the batteries charged and didn't just level off with the dead batteries. With a home made switch box, mini isolator and batteries it is able to fit in my rear rack "tool/utility bag"...
      All of the above is a work in progress, so it's changing monthly as I refine the idea...
      Note, on cloudy days I rolled with no power at times or only used the battery while climbing. I had better luck in the south were the sun was higher longer, up north the sun was up longer, but not as high...
      I also carried 2 batteries, so on a good day I could get 100-130 miles out of my range, so alot of times (in the north) I was able to pass towns and would beg the locals for power, usually churches, cop shops and restaurants... All in all, it was a fun trip, because it's still a new process to bike travel distances with a unsupported ebike, the challenge was real...

    I hate to spoil the party and a nice video by the way but I must point out strongly that most of this route under current legislation is not on existing bridleways and therefore there are no rights to cycle on CRoW access land or public paths (other than bridleways/byways/UCR). Many mb riders will be disappointed if they are keeping to the letter of the law. So I would suggest that illegal routes are not advertised. Thank you Peter Rutherford Access Officer Snowdonia National Park

    • @jonm7272
      @jonm7272 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it's time we had the kind of land access that they enjoy in Scotland? The only reason walkers have the access to the land that they do is because of the organised trespass on Kinder Scout. Obeying the law gets us nowhere, respect for the trails and careful use is what counts. It's my country and I'll take my bike wherever the hell I like! I'm quite capable of deciding where I might be doing damage and avoiding it (unlike the majority of walkers) and very happy to give way to other users (and pass the time of day pleasantly with almost all of them). So screw you and your laws, it's about time we had our own Kinder Scout moment here in Wales, and if you want to try pushing the letter of your law you're gonna find it happening sooner rather than later.

    I’m a 143kg athlete riding in the PNW. Bike is a ‘22 Giant Trance E with 625wh and Yamaha PWX3.
    Riding shuttle laps on the Shore I can empty the battery in 850 meters (2800ft) climbing and 20km of riding. This is with the motor slightly detuned in level 3/5. On the flip side, riding a flat XC gravel trail in level 1/5 detuned I can get nearly 100km. Riding the bike this way isn’t as fun and not the point.
    It laughable how fast the battery dies with a 300lb + rider. We get the worst bang for the buck on these bikes. On the same ride (200lb rider) a similar bike had 45% battery left when my battery shut down.

    Wow that was one epic adventure! Question about the bikes did you have any rock strikes on any of the two bikes? And that section on the bogs how far did you have to go with wet feet/socks shoes? Were there any points right there where you thought to yourselfs fuck this shit?? Brilliant video though guys that was somthing else!

    Was the bog the Monks Trod ? Ridden a motorbike across parts of that, and was told they've lost Land Rovers in there :-)

    I think an ebike destroys the purpose of cycling to be honest because the bike just does half the work that’s my opinion only watching because it’s mtb

    I was just wondering how the support team are able to keep up with the action is such remote, hard-to-access areas? Are there roads adjacent to the trails that allow them to drive vehicles?
