  • This 1970 BBC film follows the work done at Studio Prints, the workshop responsible for printing the etchings of many prominent British artists of the last 40 years, including Lucien Freud, Frank Auerbach, Ken Kiff, Julian Trevelyan, R. B. Kitaj, Celia Paul and Stephen Conroy.
Studio Prints was started in 1968 by artist and printmaker Dorothea Wight, and until 2011 from a workshop in Kentish Town, north London. She was joined by artist and master printmaker Marc Balakjian in 1974 and together they built up a reputation as one of the worlds leading print workshops.
Dorothea passed away in May 2013, aged 68. Marc passed away in August 2017 aged 79.

I could listen to Dorothea's voice all day long. Quite lovely.

Pressing Matters magazine’s emailer bought this film to my attention, really enjoyable watch, fascinating break down of the etching to print process.

Such a great piece - capturing the feel of working in such a studio back in the day

I used to visit my elder brother occasionally when Modbury Engineering was in its formative years in the early1970s. Through his work I knew about Studio Prints.
Sad to realise Dorothea no longer with us - I met this pleasant lady a few times.
