It does tell you how many seashells you're missing. Specifically, in the ancient city area, you'll find a wall with various pictures and some coves. Some of the coves have seashells in them. There are 3 coves per picture, and 6 pictures in total, with 1 cove at the very bottom. You can see it at 59:33 but only briefly. Each picture indicates an area of a game, with the bottom cove indicating the 1 seashell you get at the credits.

Oh and when you find them all the top part of the collection wall fills in, the golden pictograph parts, and 3ach on is divided by chapter too so you can kinda tell when you're missing something
Great guide, I got the full 1000g in one playthrough with the exception of one achievement. The Polar explorer achievement because I didn't realize you needed to wake the polar bear to unlock it. All you do is press x when near the polar bear and it will unlock. I figured I would put this here for anyone who makes the same mistake I did.

I love this game. There are two things I have never seen done by anyone else: If you can please upload them to youtube. 1- Ride animals while inside the portals: Inside the energy portals, once you interact with them, the game will go to demo and there is nothing you can do. But you can move around BEFORE you activate the portal and ride the "ghost" animals. 2- Feed the whales. In episode 3 there is a bait ball (with the rubber duck in the surface). If you swim down and ride a whale, you can bering it up to the bait ball and it will eat.
Im playing this cause it was added to xbox game pass and it looks beautiful and I can say I actually enjoy it Its good to play something different sometimes beside the main stuff we play.
Loving these guides. I've actually really enjoyed going for games that are easy ish for 1000g, especially the game pass ones. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and depth to indie games these days. Edith Finch was brilliant and sad. Layers of fear, genuinely scared me. Almost didn't get the eco achievement, went back through a couple chapters, I didn't get the one at 27 minutes in. Achievements popped now :D wewew I was concerned it was a bug, but nope human error on my part. Keep at it man!

I know...4 years later ;) I love the game, but I don't love the controls at all. ;) Half the time I'm trying to just go through an opening and my diver is deciding it's a good time to do a barrel roll. ;) Maybe that's just me. Also I like how you guide through each part as many guides will just skip to each part, leaving me to say "Where are we? Where the heck is this?" ;) and being worried I missed something. It's mainly because I'm a little dyslexic which isn't too much of an issue, but mainly throws me when there are places you can easily get turned around in. Anyway, I've subbed and will watch any other guides you have :) if I'm playing the game.

Thanks, great guide! Playing this on the playstation, the start of the game could not be any worse. You are just left floating on the surface with no options or list of controls. I was sure I pressed everything on the controller and nothing happened. So it was great that you stated what the controls are. Once you have dived underwater you then get a picture of the controller telling you how to dive. Which is a bit late! Next, the game shows you a controller with the boost button highlighted. But if you press the boost button as stated, your character just makes a feeble attempt at swimming. The game doesn't tell you that you have to hold the right trigger down at the same time as the boost button! Definitely a terrible first impression.

This is on Games Pass for PC and has its own achievement list, so you can double dip and complete in on Xbox and PC for 2000 GS
