Ooh, you should definitely add the Don't Call Me dance practice to your playlist - the choreo is so intricate but it's not super visible in the MV!

Fun fact: SHINee's "Marry You" is part of a trilogy. The story starts with their debut song "Replay" in 2008, where they have a crush on an older woman; it then continues in 2015 with their song "Love Sick," where they confess their love to the girl and start a relationship; and then in 2021 they propose to the girl in their song "Marry You." If you read the lyrics to all three songs, you will see similarities in the lyrics that connect them all together to make one complete story. :D
This performance is part of a special showcase SHINee did called The Ringtone, which was part of their Don't Call Me promotions. It was a celebration for the fact that they were finally making a comeback after 3 years now that Onew, Key and Minho were discharged from the military. It's called "Ringtone" because their title track for this comeback was "Don't Call Me" so it was making reference to a ringtone for a phone, as well as the double meaning ring-tone as a reference to their new song "Marry You". Plus, it also represents that SHINee's symbol is a diamond (like a diamond ring) and the showcase is setting the tone for this comeback, etc.
SHINee are known for their harmonies, that is one of their many claims to fame. No one harmonizes like SHINee. Their five-part harmony is one of the best in the industry.
That's why SHINee are known as CDNee or CD-eaters because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do in their studio recordings. That's why Shawols always say you need to see SHINee perform their songs live, because SHINee live is 300 times better than any of their recordings.
The ONLY thing SHINee is not good at is lip syncing, so when you hear SHINee sing, 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between fans and the members that you can tell when SHINee are lip syncing because they are so bad at it, that is why they avoid it at all costs. (If you ask any of the members, what is something you are not good at? One of the very first things they will say is, "I am horrible at lip syncing." -- I have heard the members say this multiple times with my own ears.)
Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing than they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, what you will hear is live vocals.
SHINee live is unmatched and it's literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard that all other groups strive to reach and SHINee are the vocalists that all other artists try to emulate.
All the members vocals are highlighted differently in SHINee's songs now because they all have to cover what would normally have been Jonghyun's parts in the song. When preparing for their "Don't Call Me" comeback the members all said that this album really made them realize how important the role of a main vocalist was to their songs and how much they missed Jonghyun. Taemin and Onew are the ones that have really stepped in as SHINee's main vocalists now, which means that they have had to redistribute all the parts of their songs, that's why you notice Key's and Minho's voices more now than in their older songs because they are singing a lot more parts in the songs.
In performances like this one, I think that you may notice all the members vocal abilities more because they have now stepped out of the shadow of Jonghyun's unbelievable vocal gymnastics. Jonghyun is no longer there to focus on. But all the members of SHINee have always been amazing vocalists. Once you see some more of each of their solo work, as well as more of their live concert performances, you will understand what I mean. There is a reason why they are called SHINee, because all the members Shine in all aspects of artistry. That's why it is said that the members of SHINee no longer have fixed roles in the group because they all can literally do it all, and they have.
SM really struck gold with this group and it will never be duplicated in this same way again. SHINee are a one-of-a-kind group.

Because Taemin is also a member of SuperM, I think SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV and Fake Reality teaser is SM's way of drawing SHINee into the SM Universe and fully connecting SHINee to SuperM's/EXO's storyline. Hence, Minho's red hair and the red room with the chairs hanging from the ceiling. I think this might be connected in some way to the Red Force -- which is the evil group or being in EXO's storyline -- and EXO's/SuperM's storyline. Although I have not worked out what it all means yet. (In EXO's storyline when we see red objects or red light this usually means this is something being controlled by the Red Force.)
Therefore, most of SM's groups have storylines that connect. For example, I see connections between EXO, SuperM, aespa and SHINee with the fact that we see SuperM riding on a subway train in their "100" MV and we see aespa in the subway in their debut "Black Mamba" MV, and now we see SHINee also in a train station in "Don't Call Me." And most recently, we saw Baekhyun from EXO/SuperM on an old train in his solo "Bambi" MV. We even see Kai from EXO/SuperM on train tracks and people on a subway train platform in his "Film: Kai" solo debut teaser video during his "Amnesia" section of the video and as it transitions to "Mmmh." We also see Key from SHINee in a subway train in his solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV. And if we go back even further, you see EXO on train tracks in their "Love Me Right" MV and EXO-CBX (which Baekhyun is also a member of) on train tracks in their "Horololo" MV, etc.
The train station/subway platform in "Don't Call Me" also is given a very futuristic EXO-like feel with the view of space and the planets in the sky when you see SHINee dancing on the train platform.
The scene with Key in the red outfit standing on the phone booth submerged in water, looks like it could have something to do with the Red Force as well. And it also looks very similar to the scene with Taeyeon, from Girls' Generation, standing on the rock in the middle of the Ocean in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV. Taeyeon is even wearing the same color red dress, in "Hate That ...," and both Key and her have very similar styles and poses. And now, it also looks like this could be connected to SHINee's new "Hard" MV storyline, with Minho standing on the rock wearing a red jacket, with a vibe very similar to this as well.
We also see in "Don't Call Me," Key dressed in his black outfit with the feather headpiece standing in front of the image of himself posing on the phone booth, which looks as though this could be showing him in an alternate reality -- or a "fake reality," which was the theme of SHINee's Don't Call Me album teaser video.
Then in the next scene, it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV. When the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping," they are each teleported through space, which looks very similar to that scene with the black wall with stars in "Don't Call Me."
Therefore, because the members of SuperM are supposed to be coming together to help EXO fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from taking over the world, etc., I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight.
If you follow EXO's storyline, in EXO's "Obsession" MV we learn that the good guys are the members in the all-black outfits, and in "Jopping" we see SuperM's "Avengers uniform" is similar all-black outfits. So, in the scene in "Don't Call Me," when we see SHINee all together in those black outfits, it looks as though they might be preparing to join in the fight.

That is why I think that even though SHINee are part of the second generation, that SM is now working on bringing them into the storyline. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. I mean, we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV from 2020 in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., which debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his solo MV remake of H.O.T.'s song "Free to Fly," which looks like they are on another planet in the MV and it featured Winter from aespa and Sungchan who is a former member of NCT, now a member of SM's new boy group RIIZE, in the story. Changmin from TVXQ was also brought into the story in 2022 with his song "Devil," as the MV shows him on a pink planet and he talks about Kwangya in the song lyrics. And even more recently, BoA, who is a solo artist, became a villain within aespa's storyline. And U-Know from TVXQ's 2023 "'Nexus', Reality Show" MV is centered around a futuristic world where he spends a lot of time within the virtual realm with Karina from aespa playing an AI character that helps U-Know. So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at eventually bring all of their artists into the storyline, including their older groups.

@snowsxintjr the performance was done in an online concert during the pandemic, and it was paid online beyond concert I paid 54 dollars to watch this live stream so they haven't preformed it in other concerts. There may be clips for it on X Twitter. I was hoping SM company would release Chemistry vcr they showed it in the concert cause it's a cool video and the song chemistry is so good. 👌 I really want them to do more songs from The Story of Light. The album is very personal, and it's different.
