DIY Macrame Coaster | Round Macrame Coaster | How To Make Them Flat

- Hi guys! Here is Macrame Coaster, Macrame Round Coaster tutorial. How to make it flat. Do not pull the working cord too tight to keep it nice and flat. Super easy and pretty.
Materials:
- Single strand cotton cord 4mm
- Cut 1 strand 160 cm long
- Cut 5 strands each 100 cm long
- Cut 6 strands each 80 cm long
- Cut 6 strands each 60 cm long
- You might need more cord. Simply cut more cord to fill the gap

0:12 strand, 160 cm long
0:19 strands, 100 cm long each
0:27 strands, 60 cm long each
0:52 Take the 160 cm long cord
1:02 Make a small loop in the one end of the cord
1:13 Take one of the 100 cm long cord
1:27 Make a Reverse Lark's Head knot through the loop
2:50 Pull the longest cord to tighten up the loop
3:45 Cut the short cord behind
4:29 Start making the Double Half Hitch knots
4:37 Check the link in the description box for the Double Half Hitch knot tutorial video
5:20 Repeat the same exact steps to all the cords
6:21 Create Reverse Lark's Head Knot to fill it
9:37 End the Double Half Hitch knot with a simple knot
10:04 Trim the fringe any length you like

For you guys who get difficulties with the half hitch knot, here is the tip: Do not pull both the cord on the left and the right side all together. 5:06 Pull only the cord that is on the left side (the working cord). The cord that is always on the right is only to direct the shape (horizontal, diagonal, round, or other shapes).
And if this video is too fast for you, you can slow down by pressing the Settings button, select Playback Speed, and select 0.75 or 0.5 for a slower speed. Or you can take a look at this th-cam.com/video/WvlTCaub1R0/w-d-xo.html for slower and clearer steps on each knot. I hope it will help you.

I'm confused in measuring a cord please help me
There are alot of negative comments, it amazes me how rude people can be behind their phones. I wanted to say thank you for the tutorial, I successfully made my first coaster with this video. As a beginner, I did struggle here and there but re-watching and reading comments helped. I only had 2mm 3ply cord and I love how it turned out so I gave it a try with 4mm 3ply cord and its a bigger version that I find so pretty. They are currently being used for my candles and Ive received compliments from family on them. You know what I'll be gifting for Christmas this year! Thanks a bunch! ❤

Finally was able to make it after hours😅! Took me a few hours to understand how the hitch knot works, I did one successfully and kept forgetting how to do it again but finally completed t)3 coaster. The only issue was I used a 3mm cord and didn’t know where to add the new cords as we went. There was too much gap at few places and I wondered if we could add multiple new cords with lark knot.

Hi, it's pretty hard to calculate it. My coaster on this video end up with about diameter 13 cm. You can cut longer cord by one or two times from mine, depend on your coaster you want to make. Good luck!
Very easy to follow! I seemed to have so much cord left i didn't want to waste it so I just kept going around haha. Mine ended up being 14cm across without tassels

It's 100 cm length cord
How long is cm in inches? My tape measure doesn’t have cm clearly marked so I can know how long that is 🙁 other than that I love the tutorial 😊
If it gets dirty how do you wash it, is it just hand wash?

Hey um i don't know when exactly do i add new ropes, i know you add them whenever you see a gap but i don't really see any in mine? So whenever i add a rope i feel like it complicates the circle?? Please help
Hi, if you don't see a gap in yours then you don't need to add new rope. Just add it when you feel the gap is too far from the next fringe. Good luck :)

Hi. I have a question. The video is great but its not clear at which stage you use the 80cm & 60cm cords. Once you've used the one 160cm and five 100 cm cords which do you then use. The 80cm or 60 cm? I might be being stupid but I can't tell.
Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that. I think I forgot to mention the length. I use the 80 cm first. After the 80 cm run out, I use the 60 cm to add the next gaps. Hope it will help :)

I’m confused on when you add in the new rope. You had two lengths cut so do I slowly put those all in? Also you were adding a new one doing two stitches added another one and did six stitches then added another one and it skipped to the end so I’m not sure the pattern for adding the extra cords
Yes ….. please clarify
You add an extra cord if there is a gap between your current cord and the next one, so you don't end up with a space in your finished work. There's no set rule about when as it will depend on the tension of the thread on your coaster.

@@RikinikiDIY I tried to make it with 4ply rope and it didn't work. The knots were not consistent, and there were too much gaps. Do not reccommend using 3 or 4ply rope, unless I did something wrong...

Hi..i am confused..when u added first, did u add 80 inch or the 60 inch??
First I added the 80 cm or 31 inches cord. When I meet a big gap, I keep adding the 80 cm or 31 inches cords until I run out of those cords. And then when it ran out, I started using the 60 cm 24 inches cords.
Why do we cut the short one at the beginning? Why don't we make it longer and incorporate it?
I cut that short one because I didn't use it and it's not possible to incorporate it

Guys I gotta serious question. I am autistic and have ADHD so I need to keep bussy, but since my RA got worse I am having troubles to hold the crochet hook for decent time to do something and yes I have the special RA hooks. Is this any easier on hands, does anyone has experiences, comparisons?
I have Carpal Tunnel in both my hands and I have tried to crochet many times but have trouble holding the needles. macrame is much easier I feel. My hands do not cramp up at all. I think this will be good for you. At the least try it and see how it feels, as everyone is different. Good Luck!

Main cord needs to be way bigger....
It depends on how big you want your coaster to be. In this video, the final size is about 14 cm (diameter) with tassels. Without tassels, it's about 11 cm (diameter). Also, the cord length requirements are not always exactly the same. It also depends on the thickness of the rope. Thicker cords take up more space. So you have to add a longer main cord. While the thinner cords, take up less space. So there is a possibility that your main cord will be left a lot or you can even make your coaster way bigger than my coaster's final result. I hope it helps :)
