Awwww Yup I’m crying! We have been in the search for a prospect for about a year and talking about it for two. It’s sooooo hard to think this dog that has been by my side and helped me live, saved my life will no longer be with me every day. Another year or so and he will retire, he is healthy so he can continue to work but planned to retire him already, makes me grateful for the last time we have together. I wish I didn’t need another service dog. It’s been so hard and I really don’t want to train another dog, it takes so much out of you and I don’t know if I have it anymore. Scary feelings, so much going through my brain, I know you have been there too. Love you guys! So thankful you also had a service dog that helped you so much! It’s a different bond than anything else. ❤️❤️❤️

I have a Whistle on my dog Otis. He is a escape artist. He can jump any fence. I know the feeling of ‘where is my dog?’ Honestly this Whistle has saved his life. I couldn’t recommend it more. It is a wonderful device.

Ollie vlog, I love it! My dog is 14 years old now and although she is pretty fit still, her hearing and eyesight is very poor. She ran too far from me on a hike one day, she could not hear me call and could not find her way back to me. I have never been so scared as I was those 15 minutes I ran through the forest hoping I had not lost her. I fell down several times and ripped my pants running frantically through difficult terrain. I eventually found her in a clearing, running in circles, nose to the ground searching for a scent. It was a joyful reunion! I never let her run off-leash anymore, which is kind of sad, but she seems happy enough with a long line. A GPS would have been such a comfort the time she got lost, at least I would have known what direction to search for her.
Growing up I had an apricot poodle and seeing Oliver every day really brings back memories. I'm so thankful that he has you and Peter to give him such a wonderful, loving home. This is one of my favorite videos.
That was surprising, I have aldrig known that you're supposed to walk your dogs at least 2 times (to give the dog enough exercise and stimulation) and thought others did the same. As a service dog maybe he didn't need more stimulation but good that they're noticing now how good, and important walks are dor dogs and now specially when he's not working anymore.
OMGoodness......Ollie & Mary synchronized stretching.....how sweet was that!! After all of those years of watching after your health, Mary, it is just natural for Ollie to check on you after his walks to make sure that you are ok and safe. I’ve got the yawn and stretch part down pat! The tail wag and the shake are beyond me. I agree with Peter. There’s something about a great big stretch with whatever sound effects make you happy that just make the stretch that much more satisfying. I HAD to stretch early this morning but hub was asleep (he’s taking chemo) so I didn’t make a sound and the stretch was a little disappointing. Later when I got up and he was outside I stretched again and this time added some sound effects. Much better! If I had a dog I would get one of those trackers. Wonder if it works on humans? 😎
Awww! So glad you are doing better and Ollie gets to retire in a loving home! My service dog is nearing retirement age. I'm weaning us off mobility and am working him more for PTSD. He still does some mobility but only light mobility as he is now over 7 yrs old. Though his x-rays are still OK, which is good but because of his age, I'm not comfortable doing heavy mobility with him. It's a large adjustment for the both of us. I've been approved for a Chocolate English lab (the big labs) around November so will have a new puppy as a service dog prospect and Chopper will slowly retire. If not this November then next November but I hope it will be this November but if Chopper needs to be fully retired before then, I will go without a service dog until the prospect is trained. I'm glad you still use fetching tasks. I plan to continue that as well as service dogs really need those brain things. Even retired ones. He seems so adored and loved and happy! I'm hopping to buy my first house in a few years. I want a backyard the size yours is.
I wish that tracker had existed when we had two full Husky sisters who repeatedly took off for hours at a time! Ollie has been with y'all through thick and thin, better or worse. May his retirement be as meaningful as his service years for you!

He's a bit young to be retired, so if it's because Mary doesn't need a SD anymore...then I doubt it. If it's because he wasn't well enough or there is something else preventing him from working any longer.... it can be complicated to have a new working dog in the same home. It can be done, but it is usually a bit of stress on both dogs.
@@That_girly_idk No worries, it's a great question. Mary would be doing Ollie a disSERVICE (no pun intended!) if she was to continue to work him for support and balance. Keeping the minds of all dogs active for as long as possible is a plus, so doing little things around the house from one room to the next is perfect for him. Mary and Ollie are SO blessed to have Peter available to take Ollie on his walks and fun time in the back yard. I had to regretfully decline a very generous offer from a SD organization this last year, simply due to the fact that I do not live with someone who can regularly exercise my SD when I am having 'flare up' days. It's just as important as the work they do for us! Happy Holidays! 💞
