Fire Knight Yeah, to be 100%, Steven Universe is shit and was treated like shit, but, it has some quality stuff. Love the messages, but it feels like it’s just a message, not an actual show.
As someone who is non-binary, swing this kind of advocation and awareness for us, means the absolute world! Also, the fact you were so particular about defining non-binary and intersex was very kind. Thank you!!!
Non-binary is someone that does not feel comfortable identifying strictly as male or female. They can be a combination of the both, partly one, or neither. It’s a weird concept at first but when you look into the science behind it, it makes a lot more since.
I just wanna say how I am so happy that you posted this vid. Not only are you going into Steven universe but you’re also educating people about what’s in it. Kudos to y’all for doing research and spreading awareness!!!
LexiPapaya because they are talking about being confident and talking about being on social media so why not talk about toxic friends or ppl and how to remove yourself
Not really no offense but most just put characters like that in to appeal to the masses. Plz it’s 2019 LGBTQ+ isn’t oppressed anymore and really don’t need representation like people with disease or minorities do.
daecromancer they aren’t that rare non binary people are quite common and intersex people aren’t as rare as you think, they don’t go around constantly talking about their chromosomes and sex organs. You probably met a lot of Nb and intersex people and didn’t realise it.
GoldenGengars we need representation because what’s so wrong with showing we exist?? Like why can’t we be in media and be just and common in media as cis het people? We don’t have to be snuffed out. It’s not appealing to the masses it’s showing we exist and deserve a spot like everyone else. And you can’t really say we aren’t oppressed at all without living our lives and going through what we go through. Many queer folk are still discriminated and killed for existing, we still have movements happening trying to push for genocide. We still get bullshit close minded hate for just existing online.

I also think Stevonnie was a great character for this because between Steven and Connie, not just as humans but as who they are as people, for one thing wanting to be involved in showing pride for their gender expression and intersex status as a fusion really fits them as individuals and as Stevonnie themself. They see the importance of supporting others who need it and as a confident fusion who loves themselves they know that they can spread some kind of positivity and hope which is exactly what including that info on their page actually has accomplished from all I’ve seen across my social media. I feel it’s more impactful than a gem expressing this way because, valid as anyone relating to gems as sexless beings are, they really don’t have a binary to “non” from to begin with in both their society and “biology.” Which would also carry some unfortunate implications with them being aliens, ngl. Not to mention Greg showing his support brings in the element of having a family that loves Stevonnie and supports them. With all the weirdness Steven brings to connie’s life I feel like if they aren’t hiding it from her parents, it’d be another thing on the list of stuff they aren’t sure of and don’t understand but they want to be there and supportive of if it makes Connie happy and she’s safe. Honestly one thing I always liked about SU was the optimistic outcomes in terms of parental figures messing up or not understanding, but when they are confronted with their mistakes, they try to fix them and understand or show support however they can. It may not change parents now, but it’d hopefully be something that resonates in the kids that will one day be parents knowing that it’s okay to be wrong, not understand, or be afraid. That what matters is communicating with your child about what’s going on in their life and who they are coming to understand themselves growing up to be. There are some aspects of the community I have problems with but that’s not the same as these people existing and needing support. I don’t quite understand non-binary when in some ways it just seems like being gender non conforming. In a way that it just seems to reenforce existing gender roles. But that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to understand or respect that identity, yaknow? I’m understanding some aspects about myself in that regard that I have come to wrap my head around what can lead to a person to that identity even though I’m still comfortable identifying as a woman. I’ve always been bi and have been exploring that facet of myself for over a decade now, so I’m no stranger to different sexualities or gender expressions, but maybe I have a hard time understanding because I never felt like I needed the support of the community as I’ve never really had more than the odd argument or two with my mom in high school about it but never anything devastating and I am thankful for that as I should be. I also grew up in a time where being bi and having depression was, well... the trendy thing. It was the “I’m subversive and deep and interesting” thing to do and I think one of my knee jerk reactions is that very real people are having their identities used to play dress up without having to live with the struggles is what it sometimes looks like. I think that’s why some people in the community struggle to accept non-binary identities coming into prominence but also that it can be as varied and difficult to define as an intersex person not being expressed as a neat and tidy mixture of biological traits of both sexes. Very rarely anyone adheres to the same attributes generally applied to their gender even when they are cis. That’s where the whole deal with being gender non conforming comes in. All to say though: Not understanding something doesn’t make what you don’t understand inherently bad. It doesn’t make you inherently bad. Sometimes when you learn something new that contradicts your own world view or things you never considered, it takes time to sink in even if you aren’t really thinking about it much after learning. The important thing is to offer support and understanding. Just as important, allow new information to sink in for other people. Be supportive of those who have a hard time understanding that are trying to and let them have the time for it to sink in. Support is important not just from you but to help build up in others who are willing when you can.

Thank you for helping me understand Rebeca Sugar’s message of inclusion, I’ve been reading between the lines for far too long that I was assuming things I shouldn’t have.

Stevonnie:” buy a bar of soap to make you look better, so you feel better” Steven universe(the show):*teaches to be self confident no matter how you look/are*
I always struggled with my gender identity until I watched Steven Universe and fell down the fandom rabbit hole. I consulted the FamdomWiki while watching the show and found out, apparently, all the gems are sexless. Yet most if not all of them are feminine. I was like: "hOw cOuLd tHiS Be!?" But I kinda understand. I like to say Non-Binary because it's easier. I relate to the Gems becouse I am feminine, born with female sex organs, and use she/her pronouns, but I'm not completely female. I love it! I love me!
All of these campaign videos are great, but I legit screamed in excitement when I first saw the newest one for Stevonnie! Like, going in detail with the gender identity for them was a HUUUUUUGE thing! And to have it air during Pride Month! Kudos CN, you're spreading more love!
*1. Phones screens detect heat, not 'a human touch'. Light emits heat. *2. They probably do have some kind of fingerprint? I don't remember anyone saying they didn't, and fingerprints are vital for getting a good grip on things.
fun fact! you don't need fingerprints to use a touch phone. you can use other parts of your skin, sometimes touch works on completely other thing! I saw a post once of someone using their gecko's tail to type on smartphone.
I love those shorts since the beginning of them. ♥♥♥ Love the artstyle so much ♥♥♥ Self-Esteem is very inportant in our lifes. So its really cool :) ♥♥♥
I actually had no idea about the struggle of intersex children. This makes me really want to be a part of making people aware of those issues. I never thought about forcing gender assignment surgeries on kids.... that’s insane...
I still see a few too many people refer to Stevonnie as she/her. Not that I blame them, at first glance Stevonnie does look and sound mostly feminine. But with this I hope it’s a bit more well known among the fandom Edit: I recently came out as she/her + they/them to my friends online, and they’ve all been super accepting and understanding, and I couldn’t appreciate it more. My bestie has asked questions to clarify without being rude and it means so much to me.
I’m sorry but.. I almost cried at the part where you talked about validity. I may not be intersex or nonbinary, but I’m still in the LGBTQA+ and it just felt really good. Thank you
I saw this a couple days ago while I was on twitter and it made me ridiculously happy. It's nice to see it explicitly stated that Stevonnie is intersex and nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.
My parents say LGBT people are weird and I shouldn't listen to the news about it. But what's wrong is that I don't find them a threat at all. I have to hide the fact I don't mind LGBT people as normal people.. But on my own.. this show is like the best for telling you about relationships and conflicts among real people even if it's presented as non binary gems that refer themself some way. My father thinks that I like the show because it's about types of family. But it goes deeper than that! I adore the content theorists make and all these little thing's that make this fandom Great! Now, I don't Identify myself as LGBT but I do accept where their coming from.

2:13 Wait Connie Universe? Does that mean...
OH MY STARS!!ITS FREAKIN CANON YALL!!
bethia lhungdim 1% of my brain: It could just be a mistake.
The rest: THE SHIP IS REAL!!! TELL THE SHIPPERS EVERYWHERE!!!
Stevonnie confirmed.
Wait
abol_a1216 Connverse is confirmed. If you say Stevonnie is confirmed, then fans are going to give you a weird look.
@@8MillsProductions I was going to make a joke I know the name of the ships
I love how you can make a fourteen minute video off of a minute long one, that’s awesome to me, keep it up !
I really liked this video thanks for it
Can we just look at all of Stevonnies appearances and appreciate how amazing the animation is in every episode and how many creative liberties they took into their design for each episode
Stevonnie:” buy a bar of soap to make you look better, so you feel better”
Steven universe(the show):*teaches to be self confident no matter how you look/are*
I mean, soap is for hygiene, pretty sure everyone uses some kind of soap!
Stevonnie definitely shined in the self-esteem video
I had a feeling that he was gonna make a video about the Stevonnie Short
This video made me smile , thanks ! ❤️😊
Ok probably a too realistic question but...HOW DO GEMS USE PHONES!? You need human touch to use phones, so how?!?
@Aislee Love Greenwood aren't they light tho
It's 'logic'
But they don’t have fingerprint! Also how does peridot use her iPad by this logic?!
So its really cool :) ♥♥♥
i mean... all said in this video SHOULD be obvious... but it still should be said!
Stevonnie is my Favorite! So happy they made this ad! ❤❤❤
I can’t watch it because it’s been blocked in Spain.
Well that’s bigger than a big oof
Lol homophobic European countries
Mazin Ahmed I guess...

Mazin Ahmed lol ur dumb
WOW WHO EVER DID THE THUMBNAIL IS AN AMAZING DRAWER
Fantastic commentary. Love your support of the LBTGA+ 🏳️🌈 ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💗
OKay, started crying with the "we deserve to shine" on the flag. Wow e
I'm so happy that there's a non-binary character in my favorite show! That makes me feel valid
Smoky, Rainbow 2.0 and Obsidian are also non-binary :D
Sunstone is also non-binary ^^
@@zyko2162 Can't believe I forgot about them!
@@lautaroroldanpizzorno7494 You betrayed our protector ! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE
Lautaro Roldan Pizzorno Actually Rainbow 2.0 is male presenting. He uses they/them and he/him
this is beautiful ♥
I actually had no idea about the struggle of intersex children. This makes me really want to be a part of making people aware of those issues. I never thought about forcing gender assignment surgeries on kids.... that’s insane...
Yeah it's pretty scary.
Viva la resistance.
I agree. That’s why I also believe that hormone therapy on kids is a form of child abuse.
thagerms and conversation therapy
When the Peridot one came on my moms like, “who’s the guacamole. She didn’t know about Steven Universe.
I still see a few too many people refer to Stevonnie as she/her. Not that I blame them, at first glance Stevonnie does look and sound mostly feminine. But with this I hope it’s a bit more well known among the fandom
Edit: I recently came out as she/her + they/them to my friends online, and they’ve all been super accepting and understanding, and I couldn’t appreciate it more. My bestie has asked questions to clarify without being rude and it means so much to me.
I’m sorry but.. I almost cried at the part where you talked about validity. I may not be intersex or nonbinary, but I’m still in the LGBTQA+ and it just felt really good. Thank you
Aislee Love Greenwood awwww, thank you!
I'm transmasc, ao thanks for covering this little short!!
Tf is transmasc
@@Grandat-dw6rl definitely could've asked that nicer, so... Not gonna answer you :)
What is transmasc if you don’t mind me asking? Is it like trans male? Or something different?
@@pinkmilkshake1971 it is, it's kinda like the mix of trans male and being non-binary! I go by he/they pronouns
Mordecai R oh cool! I myself am cis gendered but am very open to lgbt terms want want to know more!! Thanks for sharing this information with me
I love Steven Universe's representation! Hopefully, more types show up in the show and others!
7:01 for those who gotta hear it again 😊
Also thanks The Roundtable I needed to hear this myself 😁
I saw this a couple days ago while I was on twitter and it made me ridiculously happy. It's nice to see it explicitly stated that Stevonnie is intersex and nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.
Intersex awareness day is on my birthday lol.
I'm a bit late, but I think it's really awesome that you're not hesitant or censoring when it comes to talking about gender. Thanks :)
Talking about the body made me cry
I ❤️ this. And yeah, people forget, beauty is an art form, it's all about being who you are, not what people tell you you should be.
I adore the content theorists make and all these little thing's that make this fandom
Great! Now, I don't Identify myself as LGBT but I do accept where their coming from.
Thank you so much for covering this, and being so open to learn and be educated 😊
