Not the fanciest of videos, but a useful one. Traveling with a lot of gear can be a pain, but the rewards often are very fulfilling. I mean, traveling for work... Who's not down for that, right? What is your bag/suitcase of choice?🧳
You are absolutely right, traveling with gear can be difficult and tricky but the way you break it down makes it look so much more manageable and reasonable! We love it!
Love this one. I always struggle because I don’t like to check in my light set. But once you have a lot of gear to carry by yourself you just can’t tale everything on your carry on. Nice tips. Thanks for sharing your method.
I have, but its way way way smaller than my Tilopa backpack which always goes with me and never got rejected. I can bring double as much compared to a peli. If I'd go with a more expensive camera or lenses, I'd probably stick em in a peli tho.
Practical and thoughtful post, Sjoerd. Planning software split screen effective - would have been more so, IMO, had computer screen appeared larger😊. Good info about tracking airline policies. What’s the total weight for both bags? Gee, I thought with all that money you are making you could afford to hire someone to carry the equipment for you😊😊. Do you ever use those smartphone location tags? Some travelers attach colorful markings to their checked items so they can more easily spot them when claiming baggage (striped tape, for instance). Ever do that? Does it ever pay to ship gear ahead? So if you are wearing a lens pouch on your feet, we’ll know why.😂 Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback, this was a tryout I will never do again, haha! Total weight was about 50KG's, but we had a 3rd bag checked in, but not used so we could fix it with that access weight. I aaaalways use airtags, which I ofcourse forgot to mention, lol. Yep, I do also have the pink camera tape around the bag. Shipping gear ahead is a hassle, especially since I shoot with it regularly so I cant miss it... Oh, and I'm quite broke tbh. A studio doesnt come cheap!
Hi Sjoerd, if you have the time to answer me I would be extremely grateful. I'm trying to find out if it's feasible to pack some lighting equipment, namely an aperture 600D with some accessories, and I'm just wondering if you've ever had an issue with checked items going missing? All the advice I've found seems to insist on carrying valuables with you but as you've demonstrated, some of it really isn't possible. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
If you really need a 600D on the road, it might be wise to rent? Its so large and heavy! If you really need to take it with you as checked baggage, deeefinitely put airtags in it. This atleast gives you leverage to show where the bag is at. I lost my surfboard bag once. And the airtag made the whole process 100times faster
@@SjoerdWess You are absolutely right, it would be wise... unfortunately am I not. 😂 I'm actually bringing it to the UK after buying it in the US, simply because it was so much more affordable (though that's soon subject to change). That's a great suggestion, and I'll do just that. Otherwise it looks like I'm taking it on faith, which is definitely something I should have considered more carefully in advance. Finally, I must say as well, thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to reply to a random stranger. I've been watching for a while (6K Pro user here) and I enjoy your style alot. All the best!
Is the Manfrotto Compact Mini Stand 1051BAC enough to secure your Amaran 200x at full extension without wobbling or tipping over? I want to buy one but I've seen a lot of complaints about them not being secure enough due to the short legs on the stand.
Hay in about to fly for ny first international shoot. The lighting kit i have came in its own soft bag should i used that on the plane or transfer it all into a hard suitcase ?
@@SjoerdWess I've heard that if you are traveling with peli cases and lots of gear, that you have a high chance of running into problems if you haven't got a carnet
I have flown with Anton Bauer 150WH, which is the max capacity one can bring. Always check your airliner for approval, because they can say you cant bring them..

Your "not fanciest of video" is the best in many other cases ;) Thanks for this one, really helpful indeed!

Perfect timing. My first shoot abroad in the Summer🙏
Awesome! Congrats man!
Very helpful video Sjoerd! I like your transparency and insights in Notion.
Cheers Luc! In 2 weeks a more detailed Notion workflow goes live!

So true! Cheers!
Great video thanks so much! Do you also put the AC power for 200x in check in or does that have to be carry on? Thank you!
It doesnt have a battery, so I check it in!
Lots of information PACKED into 12 minutes, nice!
Yes mannnnnnnn
Not a bad set up. Have you considered a pelican air 1615 - it’s the largest size check in before going oversized.
You can get TSA lock latches too.

@@SjoerdWess no check out the 1615 air - it’s a checked bag, it’s too big for carry on.
Check out the Nanuk 935 with padded dividers and organiser lid 👍🏽
How did you manage to get all this info into 12 minutes? Did you discover how to stop time or something?
Awesome video sjoerd! Really informative!
haha thanks man! Appreciate this!

Its certainly wobbly. But for traveling its fine. If its permanent, not so fine.

yes you can
